I know this is dull but can we talk about slippers?

I need to wear slippers indoors. I can't stand having bare feet especially when it's cold.
I also like to be able to pop outside to take the bins out etc. so soles are important.
This time last year I bought these emu ones
I got them for just over half price but still pretty pricey for slippers.
They were fab to start with but quickly looked scruffy and now the entire sole has worn through so I don't think I'll be getting any more of them.

Any good suggestions?

Well, I can't speak for their durability/ longevity, but I just bought these for Christmas for my mum...they are really lovely in the flesh:

The blurb is promising...from the site's item description, look good and sound practical: (These chunky cable knit mules in baby pink with a cream faux-fur trim are so warm and cosy. We adore the super-soft faux-fur lining, while the hard wearing outdoor-proof soles mean these slippers are the perfect fusion of style and substance. Plus they are machine washable.)

I have Ugg slippers. Best I ever bought. (But v expensive). Have had them 2 years, worn almost every single day (I really feel the cold) and still in excellent nick. Sole is about 1cm thick so I feel no cold at all from our stone kitchen floor. I'd never wear an Ugg boot, but I think their slippers are fab!

buttercrumble · 23/10/2013 16:11

Celtic sheepskin all the way , they have fab slippers Smile

notwoo · 23/10/2013 16:12

Sorry - I forgot to mention my other requirement - they must have backs! My feet just slip out of mule style ones.
I do like the style of those ones though thank you

Oh. Just looked at your Emus. Price is very comparable - I think mine were £70ish from John Lewis.

notwoo · 23/10/2013 16:14

Might have to go down the ugg route.
I ordered some celtic sheepskin ones a while ago but seemed to be between sizes so had to return.
I am a tricky customer I know

I got celtic sheepskin ones images.celtic-sheepskin.co.uk/img/lib/rpzoom/23621.jpg and found them a bit rubbish, they felt very sloppy and slippy-offy, a real disappointment for the money.

Now have these www.ebay.co.uk/itm/190914825153?var=490189802957&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649 they're cheap and not real sheepskin, and I don't know how they'll last, but they are firm and grippy and comfy and warm and have proper soles.

aerynsun · 23/10/2013 16:33

YY to Celtic sheepskin ones. I bought their clogs over 3 years ago, wear them every day (inside and pottering in the garden) and they still look and feel fantastic. Yes, they're pricey but they'll last for years.

Tweet2tweet · 23/10/2013 16:51

I recently bought some camper 'wabi' slippers. They are great and the sole is very good.

notwoo · 23/10/2013 16:55

Ooh those camper ones look very similar to some clarks ones I had which lasted nearly 10 years!

We all wear the aldi version of crocs. Can be worn inside and out and just don't wear out. I must have mine 5 years

FracturedViewOfLife · 23/10/2013 17:22

I just got Uggs. I'm not taking them off for the foreseeable future.

CheerfulYank · 23/10/2013 17:27

I want these desperately.

bunjies · 23/10/2013 17:30

I got some boden slippers for my 40th birthday & have just replaced them (with another pair from boden) 3 years later. I would never have normally spent that much on slippers but I have been very impressed with the quality. Can't link as on phone but they only do one kind in different colours. Btw I wear them every single day!

timidviper · 23/10/2013 17:38

I have had FlyFlot slippers a couple of times and they last well. Like you I want a proper sole so I can go out to the bins or garage. The ones I have had were clogs though

mewkins · 23/10/2013 17:39

I have Just Sheepskin ones from john lewis which lasted two years so far..

Laska42 · 23/10/2013 19:16

I've been wearing Nordikas for several years I usually get the Natala which ar slip ons but the Nicola have backs and I have had a pair odf those also . Suede tops furry lined , toasty and have hard soles.. usually arounf £49.. I wear mine all the time (even up the garden sometimes ummm) and they last a good couple of years .even with my hard usage . .

Laska42 · 23/10/2013 19:23

I usually buy my Nordikas from Howorths There's a couple of pages of styles.. I've found them very good , quick to post , and no trouble with returns (haveno connection with company apart from being a satisfied customer!)

here are the Nordikas Nicola with backs

jamaisjedors · 23/10/2013 19:38

I have some from here (I think) : www.natureshop.co.uk/collections/_womens-footwear-slippers/

and they have lasted really well, have a proper sole so I can pop out to the bin, and are warm.

MadameBabawic · 23/10/2013 19:40

I bought my new slippers today and they are Isotoner black pump style... the comfy cosy squashiness means I may just have to wear them to work tomorrow as they are so wonderful!
My first pair lasted 3 years.. great for a 20€ pair of slippers!

MadameBabawic · 23/10/2013 19:43

Forget the link, they are some nice ones... www.isotoner.fr/chaussons-isotoner/chausson-femme.htm

IamInvisisble · 23/10/2013 19:50

I wear kids fake Uggs from Next (I have adult size 5) as slippers. They have a hard sole and haven't collapsed, this is the second year I have worn them.

I bought DH Celtic sheepskin ones, I was a bit disappointed, tbh.

MissBetseyTrotwood · 23/10/2013 20:01

I have the Celtic Sheepskin house boots and have worn them every day since. Even when the evenings got cold this summer! I use them to pop out and feed the guinea pigs, take rubbish out, everything. Love them.

They look mucky though as they are quite light.

FuckyNellItsHalloween · 23/10/2013 20:13

I usually 'recycle' my ugg boots into slippers by cutting the legs off after a few years.

womma · 23/10/2013 20:31

These from Lands End are heaven and I'm on my third year with mine. If you sign up for their email newsletter, you'll get notification of any discount offers, snap them up then!

I love mine.
