Please give me your thoughts on fake leather jackets?

I've found a leather jacket I really like - it is actually fake leather - I do really like it but being a leather virgin IYSWIM I don't know if it will look cheap or not. Are there different degrees of fake leather? to me it looks like leather but I'm not really that informed on the subject!! N.B. a real leather one is out of my price range

Can you link to a picture?

BunnyLebowski · 23/10/2013 16:03

Link!!!!!

NigellasGhost · 23/10/2013 16:09

Oh no sorry it was in a shop and I don't remember the brand. I will find out and see if I can find it online...

I like it. I see it with very high heels and very skinny jeans.

Never heard of that store, is it Danish?

niceupthedance · 23/10/2013 18:49

I like it.

I think the style also makes something look cheap (or not). I have a Primark pleather jacket I bought for £12 in 2009 and it's still going strong and looking good!

NigellasGhost · 23/10/2013 20:03

thanks for thoughts - no I hadn't heard of the store either - I saw the jacket in a shop originally.
I would wear with skinny jeans but flat heels.
Does it look obviously fake?

I can't really tell if it looks too fake or not from the picture, but if you liked it when you saw it 'in the flesh' that's a good indication isn't it? It'll look great with jeans and flats - I think I had Victoria Beckham in mind at first!

NigellasGhost · 23/10/2013 20:16

true - I did like it in the flesh. I really like the neckline.

I recently bought this one from Oasis (in a sale at HoF).

Initially I had reservations about the fake leather but now I've got it I love it and don't give it a second thought.

MolotovCocktail · 23/10/2013 20:26

I love leather jackets yet must admit that I prefer my £39.99.New Look faux leather biker jacket more than my real leathers Blush I also have a faux leather and shearling H&M jacket that keeps me warm - although that one looks less authentic than the one from New Look (its a bit shinier than leather is).

Real leather ages and takes on a particular quality as it ages. But real leather is expensive and I actually think that some synthetic leathers mimic the look of new and old leather veey well indeed.

There's nothing wrong with faux leather; also saves an animal from suffering, which is worth it in itself, isn't it?

SprinkleLiberally · 23/10/2013 20:28

I think fake leather has come a long way lately. I've always preferred real but I'm probably going to get a fake one now.

NigellasGhost · 24/10/2013 10:05

it's encouraging to hear fake leather has come a long way sprinkle - does anyone else have opinions on the jacket I linked to please? Thanks

Here's a link to a similar jacket but in real leather - it's £100 more expensive

I have seen the label for that brand and think it was tk maxx.

I like the fit of it. As for it being faux leather then it depends on what you wear it with. Dark denim skinny jeans would look good.

my daughter is a vegan and many people choose faux leather for their personal beliefs rather than cost.

snakeweave · 24/10/2013 13:08

looks lovely - i really like it. i have a couple of fake leather jackets. i think the thing to be careful of is the sound. i bought one once that looked great but made a very plasticy sound when i moved and it sort of stuck to itself. it was from mexx so not super cheap too.

101handbags · 24/10/2013 15:06

Just don't wear a doughnut bun on your head or you'll be a dead ringer for the (alleged) Peru drug mule!

NigellasGhost · 24/10/2013 15:21

OMG 101 handbags I am now having MAJOR second thoughts!!!

SundaySimmons · 24/10/2013 15:25

Ha ha ha that drug mule reference!

No you won't look like her. She is a chav, that doughnut hair is ridiculous.

missmartha · 24/10/2013 15:43

I like it, and yes fake leather has come an awfully long way.

Mine was reduced to £15 and I love it. I told my DH it was real leather and he believed me for months.

Hoojimiflip · 24/10/2013 15:54

Is it not going to be really sweaty? It's essentially made of plastic isn't it? I had a fake leather jacket I loved years ago but it was sooo hot to wear and it wore through very quickly. I've only bought real leather since so I've no idea if the modern fake materials are much improved.

I tend to wear mine this time of year when the weather is neither hot nor cold. It's ideal for that really.

I can wrap a nice scarf around my neck too for extra impact.

Hoojimiflip · 24/10/2013 16:14

I had mine when I had babies and was often exerting myself, hulking them and a double buggy around, I'm sure they'd be less sweaty if you sweated less!
