So, I'm after nice ankle boots to go with knitted dresses and kilt skirts...What about these?

To go with these dresses (with black opaque tights):

and this kind of skirt:

What do you think? I'm 38, size 10, 5ft3.

Thanks :)

Love the kilt, you will look gorgeous. Not sure about the care needed for a cashmere dress.

LeoandBoosmum · 18/10/2013 01:44

Eek, do you think cashmere dresses will be hard to care for? I've already bought those and plan to buy the kilt :)

Well, just careful hand wash will be fine. Buy the kilt, I would if my legs were up to it. Lovely choices altogether.

PervCat · 18/10/2013 02:02

Block heels would be better IMO

InTheFace · 18/10/2013 02:23

I agree re block heels. Or kitten heels. Or just something chunky. I think in order to not look middle aged you would need quite a youthful shoe to go with thick black tights and those dresses.

http://m.zappos.com/sam-edelman-louie-tan-suede Maybe something like this?

InTheFace · 18/10/2013 02:23

Sorry!

bunnymother · 18/10/2013 07:14

Love the kilt! Not a v helpful post, sorry.

bunnymother · 18/10/2013 09:41

I would be looking at an Acne Pistol style ankle boot or a heeled Chelsea ankle boot. I think they are hard to beat - modern, sleek and not frumpy.

Don't Whistles do a lovely suede heeled ankle boot, the Kir?

bunnymother · 18/10/2013 09:51

Last one from me... Not sure of your budget, but H&M have some nice heeled leather ankle boots tha are £60, but 25%off w Grazia mag this week. If budget is limited, TopShop usually do great leather ankle boots. Aldo, too. Else, if you have a little more cash, Kurt Geiger has lovely boots.

ElizabethBathory · 18/10/2013 09:57

I agree a chunkier heel would be better. What about something like these? Black suede with black opaque tights looks so good...

I want those dresses :)

Snowlike · 18/10/2013 10:05

I have these. Very flattering, I wear them with dresses and skirts, comfortable and lovely leather.

trixymalixy · 18/10/2013 10:14

yep, I'm in agreement with everyone about a chunkier heel. Zara have some lovely boots at the moment.

BunnyLebowski · 18/10/2013 10:17

Snowlike those boots are gorgeous Envy

Agree with other posters OP. Those boots are too pointy and heely and quite old fashioned.

Something blockier will look much nicer.

polyhymnia · 18/10/2013 10:42

Agree with everyone else. Those boots old-fashioned looking in several ways and not right with your lovely clothes - several good chunkier choices here.

bunnymother · 18/10/2013 11:14

Those Reiss ones are lovely

ElizabethBathory · 18/10/2013 11:15

I've seen the Reiss ones in the flesh bunnymother and they're gorgeous, especially the taupe/grey version.

NigellasGuest · 18/10/2013 12:10

The Reiss ones are lovely imo and also, OP if you re-visit your Whistles links and look at the boots the model is wearing with the dresses that should give you an idea?
Not sure if they would also work with the kilt however. I think the kind of boot Snowlike linked to would go better with the kilt.

bunnymother · 18/10/2013 12:16

Oh, really, Elizabeth? The pewter ones are on my wish list, for the sales, but I haven't actually seen them in RL yet.

foxysocks · 18/10/2013 12:46

definitely need something chunkier boot-wise

where is you kilt from? i love it

bunnymother · 18/10/2013 13:52

Went shopping this morning - Oasis have some lovely looking leather and suede ankle boots for £68. Betty is her name: m.oasis-stores.com/betty-banana-heel-boot/boots/oasis/fcp-product/6750014801

NettoSuperstar · 18/10/2013 14:18

I need that kilt, it's gorgeous

LeoandBoosmum · 18/10/2013 14:52

Thanks! Some brilliant suggestions there! My budget is around £70 (I'd have loved the Whistles' ones but, alas, too expensive after the dresses!) and I really like those Betty ones from Oasis - thanks!!
The kilt is from here:

www.scotlandproductsonline.com/tartan-kilts/658-scottish-black-stewart-tartan-short-kilt.html

I am a bit cautious about ordering from the site though. No length is given and also the blurb is dodgy (read the description...for a Scottish company the English is very odd...unless the web designer was at the Scotch Grin

OP posts:
LeoandBoosmum · 18/10/2013 14:54

...actually looks like the kilt company might be based in the States (though no address is given...another red flag?) The English is very suspect... Much as I love the kilt I think I will exercise caution and look elsewhere :( Love it though!

Ujjayi · 18/10/2013 15:44

I like all your links OP. I also wear similar boots and don't look frumpy or middle aged. As ever, it is all about the styling.

WRT to the kilt - that site seems rather suspect to me Hmm
