Can you help me choose a 30s style veil for a wedding dress. And also tell me if you think I would look like a knob wearing one

I have namechanged as I am not sure of the ins and outs of my wedding plans and a bit worried that MNers I know will go 'oooooooh' when all I have are vague plans and an idea I would like to look a bit like Nancy Mitford on her wedding day.

I have bought a dress (I had to, it was forty quid). It is a ghost dress like this but has lacy cap sleeve not satin ones. It is here

www.ghost.co.uk/dye-to-order/sylvia-dress.html?color=46

Also I have seen a lovely veil www.etsy.com/uk/listing/97028065/silk-wedding-veil-and-art-deco-headpiece?ref=shop_home_active

The dress is in blush pink. You can get the veil and cap in pink as well. Will I look like a twat? I have NO idea about wedding style. Fwiw I am very tall and blonde, was thinking of having my hair shingled style as well. Can you advise me please?

Or should I just scrap the whole blush pink idea and actually pay more than I would for a Chinese takeaway on a wedding dress. Grin

Oh come on. Please don't make me try it on and look in the mirror standing o.pn tiptoes again with a net curtain wrapped around my head lies

Oh that dress is unbelievably gorgeous. You really got it for forty quid?!

Re. the veil. Let me have a ponder and a nose about.

FaddyPeony · 12/10/2013 14:53

Oops I totally didn't see your second link. Again: gorgeous.

I am not sure if it would be slight overkill to have the blush pink headdress and veil combo. Maybe it would look sensational. Or maybe just the headdress alone would be enough?

With deep red lips and curls. Ahhhh.

I love the dress and the veil but I personally prefer the cathedral style veil and the juliet cap with the veil. I do love your veil though.
you will look beeyootiful.

missmartha · 12/10/2013 15:05

That is a very lovely dress, I bet you look lovely in it.

I like the veil too. I think they'd be great together.

FaddyPeony · 12/10/2013 15:06

The cathedral veil/Juliet cap might suit the dress better yes.

NoUseForAName · 12/10/2013 15:10

The veil is lovely but I'd keep it ivory/cream rather than dusky pink that would be overkill!

Mumof3girlys · 12/10/2013 15:11

Love the dress very Pippa Midleton

I am also tall, slim and blonde but I personally wouldn't go for that veil, I think if it was me I would go very simple classic elegance!!! Hair up in a amazing chignon! My main reason for this is because I can't do vintage or 50's glamour I just would look STUPID it's just not me, but some people can really carry it off and look amazing, what's your usually style ?

FamiliesShareGerms · 12/10/2013 15:13

Where are you getting married? Ie church, registry office, National Trust hall, barn....

(dress and hair pieces are gorgeous, BTW)

GhastlyMoiraKroesig · 12/10/2013 15:15

Thank you everyone. I did think it might be a bit much to have it in pink both the veil and the dress. I think if it didn't quite match (which would be hard being two different materials I am sure, not that I know ANYTHING about it) it would look daft.

So do you think white or ivory.

I always wear hm hair in a chignon so that's why I thought a modern version of a shingle would be a nice change. Absolutely no to red lipstick though. I don't want my partner thinking it's Unity as opposed to Nancy coming to marry him. Grin red lipstick absolutely does not suit me. But I have fine useless hair so thought a bit of body or shape would be interesting.

do you dare? -This is a good combo of ivory/pink and I basically think it is the shit :)

this could work with the dress shape

this would make a fab accent piece to the blush and you could stick a veil on behind it?

FaddyPeony · 12/10/2013 15:19

Sorry that first link should have been do you dare?

GhastlyMoiraKroesig · 12/10/2013 15:20

Here is another one www.etsy.com/uk/listing/160588687/silk-wedding-veilvintage-style-cap?ref=sr_gallery_5&ga_search_query=Cathedral+vintage+style+veil&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_ship_to=GB&ga_search_type=all&ga_facet=Cathedral+vintage+style+veil

I have had a look for vintage style veils all over and this etsy seller seems good, I want a silk one ideally.

I do prefer cathedral length veil. However it would probably depend on the venue, which is as yet undecided.

Yes forty quid however they had others in ivory and pale pistachio green and also very pale lilac (less keen on as I think it would be not my colour) for the terrible price of 70 quid so I might go and try some of those on.

I do love that nymph look with the flowers. It is beautiful. BUT (and I know this sounds a hit silly) I think you would have to be younger than 27 and rather more beautiful and innocent looking than me to get away with it. Grin

I do like the simple tulle veil, however is it TOO simple.

If I had the bollocks I would go for the very traditional Princess Leia type 20s Juliet cap veil but (a) I think I would feel very self conscious (b) don't really think it would go too well with the dress which is more 30s IMO and (c) I think these veils will date very quickly

FaddyPeony · 12/10/2013 15:27

well as I said on another thread I wore blush pink and a 20s/30s style headdress and no regrets I did get mistaken for the bridesmaid by the restaurant staff when we were having our meal. I do love your dress in both ivory and blush though. It would be just a matter of figuring out the best colour scheme with the accessories.

All of that seller's veils are lovely, so romantic and ethereal. Face it OP you're going to look great :)

FaddyPeony · 12/10/2013 15:29

You're 27?

Sorry but that's a nymph in my book! You officially get to wear whatever the fuck you like.

Honestly.

Love it

GhastlyMoiraKroesig · 12/10/2013 15:31

More like what Lily Allen wore on her wedding dress or Kate Moss here

OP posts:
buss · 12/10/2013 15:31

that's stunning OP!I also like this

GhastlyMoiraKroesig · 12/10/2013 15:33

Oh no sorry that didn't make sense, I am going to be 36 when it happens just that that beautiful veil would only suit someone in their younger twenties.

Or Cate Blanchett.

OP posts:
buss · 12/10/2013 15:35

well Kate Moss is 40 isn't she? Wink
you will look lovely

GhastlyMoiraKroesig · 12/10/2013 15:37

Thank you very much everyone.

It's very reassuring that you did the same peony and also I love that veil buss, I wonder if that tulle is silk.

It's making me feel more confident about the idea.

What I might do next weeknf (after post hol crash diet) is the thing on and post a pic so you can shred me to bits give your opinion.
