So I was in Ted Baker the other day and fell in love with this [http://www.tedbaker.com/women%27s/women%27s_clothing/skirts/list.aspx#-&styCode=104838&colRef=00-BLACK&path=/women%27s/women%27s%20clothing/skirts/ skirt]. I was wondering what you all think, bearing in mind I'm 5"8' and a 12-14 a bit heavy on the hips, is it a bit too flouncy and will it look a bit silly on someone of my build?

Was thinking of wearing it with [http://www.hm.com/gb/product/13722?article=13722-E#cm_vc=GOES_WITH_PD this] black top and [http://www.next.co.uk/G49200s2#877861G49 these] heels. What do you think? It's for a night out and possibly a Christmas party too.

I cant see the skirt. Just doesn't show up.

The top is ok. Is the high a hi waisted one?

The shoes aren't for me. I like a platform.

SPsTwerkingNineToFive · 05/10/2013 18:35

I am on laptop now and though they aren't what I would wear they would look nice on someone else.

VBisme · 05/10/2013 18:36

I love that outfit, skirt, shoes and top all compliment.

OhTheDrama · 05/10/2013 18:42

The picture online doesn't do the skirt justice, definitely looks better in real life. I have the top and heels so that would make the pricetag a bit friendlier! Just not sure whether the skirt is a bit young and suited to someone thinner Confused!

It looks nice not my style though.

Have you tried their suggestions or would head to toe Ted Baker not be your thing? or what model is wearing it with.

I don't like the heels personally but that's me. I think you need a dressier top to go with the skirt jmo.

OhTheDrama · 05/10/2013 19:26

Head to toe Ted Baker is way out of my budget! Not sure of their suggestion to wear head to toe floral. If I'm wearing something that makes a bit of a statement then I prefer to have everything thing else plain iyswim. Also the black sweater they have paired it with will not work as I have decent sized norks (32FF) and that won't be flattering!!

I like the skirt, but the top looks far too slouchy and casual to go with it. Cant stand high heeled ankle strap shoes, personally.

MollyBerry · 05/10/2013 19:35

I don't like the ankle strap but love the skirt and top. Agree that the top looks too informal for that skirt

OhTheDrama · 05/10/2013 19:41

OK browsing for a different top.

Love the skirt - it's beautiful:have seen (and drooled over) irl. Don't like the shoes.

OhTheDrama · 05/10/2013 19:56

What about this, this or this.

Shoes will have to stay as DH will confiscate my bank card if I sneak shoes in as well the skirt!

If you are 5' 10" with no tits or waist or hips, lovely. Otherwise not so good.

OhTheDrama · 05/10/2013 20:10

Hmmm no, 5'8" and distinctly hourglass! But it's such a beautiful skirt: wails! It won't work will it! Ah well I can dream.

the vertical Oasis top was best one you linked to.

you can wear that skirt I think but you need the shoes you linked to and a top - I don't know but one that pulls you in at waist I think and showcases norks maybe v neck. maybe ribbon tie at waist??

My norks are similar to yours but I've got narrow back, (28FF/G bust) longish body, small waist and long legs (but I'm 5 ft 4).

are you in proportion? I think you just need to balance out widest part of skirt.

what are your legs like? you could wear spanx etc underneath to help slim you down, as for special occasion. kwim?

Twinklestein · 05/10/2013 21:09

I like the idea of the skirt, but I think there are other nicer floral skirts around for that price, it's not cheap. And I agree you need to wear a fitted top with it like the model is wearing, that loose top won't look right.

The shoes are ok, I'd prefer that skirt with stiletto closed toes like these or these from Zara.

I think the shirt is gorgeous and it should be your focus, you need a fitted top, Primark is good for scoop neck, long sleeved fitted tops - it needs to tuck into the skirt for waist definition, maybe even a body!! You know the ones with pants attached. And plain coloured closed toe heels as high as you want.

SwedishEdith · 05/10/2013 21:49

The skirt is lovely but you can't pay that for polyester surely?

snowlie · 05/10/2013 22:05

I hadn't noticed the price! If you were slim a slim fitting mohair or angora jumper would be lovely too.

Karbea · 05/10/2013 22:28

I don't like the shoes, hate gold coloured heels, I think they look cheap (even when the aren't).
I think the skirt is ok, you'd need to tuck in that top, untucked the silhouette wouldn't be right.

OhTheDrama · 05/10/2013 23:25

To be honest I hadn't realised it was 100% polyester Shock. That put's a whole new spin on things, wowsers! Still love it but think I'll wait for the sale!

Skirt is dressy, top is casual and the sandals would not go with the skirt at all! In my opinion.
