So I was in Ted Baker the other day and fell in love with this [http://www.tedbaker.com/women%27s/women%27s_clothing/skirts/list.aspx#-&styCode=104838&colRef=00-BLACK&path=/women%27s/women%27s%20clothing/skirts/ skirt]. I was wondering what you all think, bearing in mind I'm 5"8' and a 12-14 a bit heavy on the hips, is it a bit too flouncy and will it look a bit silly on someone of my build?

Was thinking of wearing it with [http://www.hm.com/gb/product/13722?article=13722-E#cm_vc=GOES_WITH_PD this] black top and [http://www.next.co.uk/G49200s2#877861G49 these] heels. What do you think? It's for a night out and possibly a Christmas party too.

Beautiful print but a bit too sticky out.

rootypig · 06/10/2013 05:16

OP have you seen this Oasis skirt? Just as beautiful a print I think, a third of the price, and perhaps a more grown up shape?

rootypig · 06/10/2013 05:19

This dress is beautiful too

Re head to toe floral: I think top and skirt or dress is really chic. The danger of doing one floral piece with a neutral is it can unbalance the silhouette. For that to work, I think you would need boxier, more mannish shapes, than you have with the Ted Baker skirt. Though statement jewellery could bring the whole thing together if you do go for it.

I'd get the Oasis skirt!

OhTheDrama · 06/10/2013 12:43

Yes I was admiring the Oasis skirt last night but it's very short! Even at 2 inches shorter than the model I still think it's going to be too short for me to feel comfortable! What do you all think?

I love the Ted Baker skirt and I think the top would work tucked in. But a plain mid-heel stiletto court would be better than the sandal.

rootypig · 06/10/2013 18:29

I think the Oasis skirt is worth trying. It may be too short, but you might surprise yourself! the photo of the model could be photoshopped to emphasis her legs, for all you know they look biologically impossible to me

OhTheDrama · 06/10/2013 19:46

I am going to go into Oasis in the week and try it on, my legs are not too bad so it may be a goer!

Whilst googling floral skirts yes I'm that sad I came across this boohoo one. For £8 and free delivery it was worth a try, it's either going to be nice or a total disaster! Waiting to get flamed lol!

Skirt is gorgeous, top is hideous and the shoes are very meh!

Yes,I know there have been several posts and suggestions since but I just wanted to reply because the skirt is lovely!

MissDD1971 · 06/10/2013 20:56

tip for skirts - try a really nice maybe a nice sheened opaque tight to go with it (H&M do nice ones). also look out not now but later in H&M for black opaque tights with black diamante strips up back, very classy (had them last year) and that can take eye imo off shortness of skirt.

if you have nice legs or tights you can make it work. and correct shoes.

MissDD1971 · 06/10/2013 20:57

the boohoo one looks nice but very short BUT like I said if you have good legs etc then go for it.

Stepawayfromthezebras · 07/10/2013 08:40

I love the skirt and think the outfit will look lovely Smile

I love the Ted Baker skirt. Def buy in the sales.

Oasis one is nice but I'm 5'6", and I almost always find their skirts and dresses cut too short. Even with opaque tights. Which is a pity because it's not a bad shop for pears like me.
