I think I must be missing something! I see people wearing them and they seem to be recommended on here quite a lot but they are ugly and not sure why anyone would buy them Hmm

I hate them. I suspect no one could convince me of their value.

working3jobs · 28/09/2013 22:11

its a charity thing. for every pair bought the company will give a pair to the needy in various countries.
I read the book by the founder, it's a really good read and good idea!
though his name escapes me now.....

AnythingNotEverything · 28/09/2013 22:39

But they're so bloody ugly!

yummymumtobe · 28/09/2013 22:41

Really, really comfy!

BeatrixIsPotty · 28/09/2013 22:41

They are really awful looking and all the cheap imitations of them always seem to look so scruffy.

Pagwatch · 28/09/2013 22:42

Dd and ds1 both have pairs of toms.
They look great on them and are apparently incredibly comfortable.
If you don't like them, you don't like them.
I think converse are cliche and fuck ugly but others think they are just dandy

spookyskeleton · 29/09/2013 07:16

I appreciate the charity aspect behind them but I still wouldn't wear them. I have yet to see anyone wear an outfit that makes them look good!

A friend of mine wears them and they always look very nice on her. I suppose it depends what kind of shoes you wear yourself.

SundaySimmons · 29/09/2013 08:19

Every time I see a pair I have a mental image of them being worn by The Monkees or The beachboys circa 1967, so for me, I'm out.

Anyone over the age of 30 wearing them looks like they have nan slippers on.

Rooners · 29/09/2013 08:26

what are toms please? I have missed this clearly.

SundaySimmons · 29/09/2013 08:30

Rooners, they are hideous

Not that I've been to China but they look just the ticket for strolling along the The Great Wall in.

SundaySimmons · 29/09/2013 08:32

In velour

Can you tell I hate them? Ha

This ^

I wouldn't buy them because on me, they would look frumpy as hell. I wouldn't say they were offensive in any way, but I look at them and see middle aged.

Fairylea · 29/09/2013 08:37

Really, really comfortable. That's it really.

And if you live in Norwich everyone wears them in the summer so they become not so hideous :)

Rooners · 29/09/2013 08:44

Erk. They really are slippers aren't they.

I can see they do other styles though.. Are these just the most ubiquitous?

GwendolineMaryLacey · 29/09/2013 08:48

What Rooners said. They're slippers surely.

SundaySimmons · 29/09/2013 09:25

What I really hate seeing is men wearing them. Young men wearing them with shorts, no socks and Toms on bare feet. Absolutely hideous and much worse than women wearing them.

Fairylea · 29/09/2013 09:32

I must be in the minority on mumsnet then because I think they look nice, much prefer to see them on young men rather than converse or vans or trainers, keep feet much fresher too!

PareyMortas · 29/09/2013 09:36

They've gone from these part, so last year Grin.

spookyskeleton · 29/09/2013 20:01

Love that link of all different fabrics...just because you use interesting fabrics doesn't make them look less like slippersWink

Expensive espradrilles!

cherrytomato40 · 29/09/2013 20:06

Ooh! I had never heard of them but I really like them! Blush

FrillyMilly · 29/09/2013 20:43

I like them. They are so comfortable and nice summer shoe.

Ujjayi · 29/09/2013 21:00

They are ok shoes & the concept is a good idea but they have been criticised for damaging local shoe trade. It would be better to fund the production of the charity shoes locally. Give a man a fish and all that.

EmpireBiscuit · 29/09/2013 21:02

I love my pair - the comfiest things I've ever had on my feet!
