I need a dress for a party on Saturday that will also work for Christmas Day - anyone seen anything lately?

I don't buy many dresses as I don't go out much! But I need one for Saturday and I like to dress up on Christmas Day so I thought I'd try to kill two birds with one stone (mainly because I'm trying to save money!). But I can't find anything!

I'm 5'9", size 10, boobs, very pale. Long body so waists on dresses often sit too high. I like retro/vintage style and usually automatically go for belted dresses with full skirts. But I tried on a fitted shift dress the other day and quite liked it. Hmmm....

But I'm running out of time! Any ideas?

What's your budget?

Thurlow · 25/09/2013 16:01

I just bought this which the shop assistant immediately said would be great for Christmas Grin.

I REALLY want this though, so I think someone else should buy it instead...

IHeartKingThistle · 25/09/2013 16:06

I'd like to do it for under £50 but could stretch that a bit.

Thurlow that aubergine one is lovely - that sort of colour tends to wash me out a bit though...

Lady vintage London have lovely satin Hepburn dresses in jewel colours that would be ideal for xmas. Collectif have the Delilah dress in velvet-a draped wiggle dress which is stunning and again would be perfect for xmas parties.

How about:

www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NEW-LINDY-BOP-CLASSY-VINTAGE-1950s-CHIFFON-ROCKABILLY-FLARED-SWING-JIVE-DRESS-/400541462605?pt=UK_Women_s_Dresses&var=&hash=item5d4221b04d#ht_985wt_962

I was lusting after it earlier and its cheap too. A nice silver belt could dress it up too.

Also this comes in lots of colours.

IHeartKingThistle · 25/09/2013 16:38

Pinup those Hepburn dresses are beautiful! Just checking out collectif...

Whiter the skirt on that's fab but not sure about the high neck - not flattering of the boob!

I really like this and think it's quite vintagey and festive Smile

IHeartKingThistle · 25/09/2013 17:02

I like that one Leslie.

I like their lace one better

tethersend · 25/09/2013 17:29

or this one

MortifiedAdams · 25/09/2013 17:30

What about a flapper style? They tend to have low waists. Will look for a couple of links.

IHeartKingThistle · 25/09/2013 17:54

Flapper style would be a nice change actually!

Am struggling to find that style in the budget tbh. This one isnt totally flapper but is so far the cheapest

Oops sorry

IHeartKingThistle · 25/09/2013 18:19

Love the detail on that but the frilly skirt bit's a bit odd. I'm a bit picky, sorry!

OOhh that M&Co dress is a dead ringer for the Pearl Lowe at peacocks one I have always lusted after!

IHeartKingThistle · 25/09/2013 18:28

I actually clicked onto George to buy that one yesterday...none in my size Sad

It is PinUp - I have the Pearl Lowe one Grin

ConfusedDotty · 25/09/2013 18:35

This may not be where you thought of looking, and I was very surprised, Warehouse and Dorothy Perkins.

I am like you and don't go out anywhere that warrants a nice dress, I got a beautiful one in Warehouse, I am a tiny size (bordering on Mothercare size) and it fits perfect.

Just looked at Dorothy Perkins online and it looks like they have a few nice ones.

Enjoy your night.

IHeartKingThistle · 25/09/2013 21:23

Why do so many dresses have visible zips? What's that about? I don't want to see my zip!

IHeartKingThistle · 25/09/2013 22:46

That ebay shop is fab! I could go with about 5 of them!
