Autumn footwear with skinny jeans

Help! I need some suggestions of what to put on my feet now it's getting chilly out. I REALLY feel the cold and nearly always have chilblains & I do a 4 mile trip each day to pre-school and back. My usual ballerinas are too cold and I'm not yet ready to embrace the full on knee high winter boots so suggestions of interim choices would be great.

If it helps I'm not a fashionista but I'm not a frumpy mum either. I'm 5'8" and size 10.

Ta x

Nice ankle boots that are roomy enough to take a pair of warm socks. Not mum boots though. Cowboy or biker boots, decent quality so they take you through that walk each way.

wrigglebum · 11/09/2013 22:47

I'm looking for the same. I quite like these that someone linked to earlier, but unfolded, though I am not sure how high they would be like that. Or I really like these and they should last well with lots of walking.

tigerdriverII · 11/09/2013 23:30

The DMs are fine. The Clarks are awful.

ZaraW · 12/09/2013 06:04

Acne Pistol boots, expensive but so well made.

Eastpoint · 12/09/2013 06:35

Acne Pistol are super comfy but need very skinny jeans or they look like Mum boots. They don't work if there is any bag around the ankle at all. I like mine but they are not as versatile as I thought they'd be.

MortifiedAdams · 12/09/2013 06:38

Acne PIstols are the quintessential.Mum.Boot!

Uggs?

Bunbaker · 12/09/2013 06:38

The Clarks ones are fine, I don't like the DMs.

Ememem84 · 12/09/2013 07:01

Cute ankle boots. Next have some. Or, leather loafers. I bought a pair from new look yesterday. Perfect for skinny jeans.

Or calf boots. Dune have a lovely pair.

WipsGlitter · 12/09/2013 07:08

Those clarks ones are horrendous. Granny boots. DM ones are FAB!!!!

baskingseals · 12/09/2013 07:11

What about leather converse?

I don't have any, but I think they look good, you could wear with socks.

carrie74 · 12/09/2013 07:23

Not very keen on either of those. Clarks are very good at the moment, and their shoes are great quality for the price, how about these:

I'm looking for some lace-up short (but not ankle) boots.
Have been to see these but they are made of nothing.
I really like the look of deep brown lace up boots, boot socks peeking over, and skinnies. Having a bugger of a time finding anything decent though.

mewkins · 12/09/2013 07:33

Grr have a look on the Dune website. They have a few nice laceups on there.

GrrArgh · 12/09/2013 07:41

Thanks. I do like the look of Dune. The trouble with Dune is the quality. I think they're fine if you're the sort of person who has twenty pairs of shoes and rotates them, but really I'm looking for winter boots I can wear a few times a week. I tried Dune for two years in a row and they either leaked or disintegrated within a month or two. Shame, because they did look good.

GrrArgh · 12/09/2013 07:42

(Sorry, that was a moan! I just live in quite a cold, wet, icy bit of the country!)

Eastpoint · 12/09/2013 08:17

Hi tech are doing some and if you go via the money saving expert website there is a 60% discount.

ZaraW · 12/09/2013 08:34

Acne Pistol boots are NOT Mum boots.

Kikithecat · 12/09/2013 08:48

Those Acne Pistols look like every 'mum boot' I've seen described on here.

I have these in tan and black. I am a size 5 but I bought them in a 5.5 so that there is extra room around the ankle to tuck in jeans etc. the half size extra makes a subtle difference.

I would never have imagined wearing boots from clarks as I had them down as fuddy duddy footwear but I am nearly 50 and don't want to look like mutton either! I am impressed with the quality and styles of the current clarks range.

For me, there is a fine line between looking ridiculous mutton and fashionable or even worse old frump and fashionable!

SundaySimmons · 12/09/2013 08:52

I would not wear them. They look very Per UNa to me! And VERY mumsy.

newmumsuchfun · 12/09/2013 08:54

Ankle boots - I bought some yesterday from NEXT. Or some cool Cath Kidson wellies.

docket · 12/09/2013 08:54

I want to like Clarks but I just can't for some reason. Those DMs on the other hand are lovely!

OneLittleToddleTerror · 12/09/2013 10:22

I love those DM linked by wrigglebum. I quite like these from clarks. But then I'm no fashionista. I don't see why the Acne Pistol doesn't look like any of the mum boots linked here either.

PrimalLass · 12/09/2013 10:33

I have these in the black leather. I like them because the ankle is narrow so they don't look like wellies.

browneyedpixie · 12/09/2013 10:35

wellies, loafers, heeled brogues, dm's, knee high boots, converse and ankle boots are my footwear choices

also 5'8 and I'm a 8/10

my dm's are great for the school run
