Ok - the hen do is in a couple of weeks and we're having afternoon tea at the Sanderson then staying on after for the evening. I literally have absolutely no idea where to start on trying to put together something to wear Sad

I'm 38, size 10 roughly, dodgy pic on profile...

Also, my friend was over today and pointed me in clothing/dresses/ this direction for a possible dress for the wedding and I think I prefer this to the one pictured on my profile. I think I'd be more comfy in this one.

Any pointers would be really good about what sort of thing I should be wearing for the hen do would be really great, thanks Smile

Anyone?....before I go back to lurking forever sob sob sob....

OP posts:
Screwfox · 08/09/2013 21:55

id do trousers
top, heels

a dress would be too much unless you did a stretch one with shoe bots and a leather biker?

Screwfox · 08/09/2013 21:56

dress on profile okay but a bit square

bobkate · 08/09/2013 22:00

Thanks - wasn't thinking of wearing the dress on profile for afternoon tea. That was a possible wedding outfit, but I'm still not sure on that one either. I'm now thinking of the purple Ted Baker one that I linked to in the OP - do you think the purple is less square? I'm rubbish at S & B but I'd like to think I'm not really square!

So could I do skinny jeans with a nice top and heels or are jeans a no no? If that's ok then that would make me relax a little and not panic about what to wear.

Thanks for the mint velvet link - I like that a lot. May have to do some searching for something similar on a lower budget, but I like the look.

The purple Ted Baker dress is nice. Would that be for the wedding?

Karbea · 08/09/2013 22:02

Sanderson long bar is lovely! Is the afternoon tea still mad hatter themed? If so it's yum!

When I just go for cocktails I really dress up, lbd, heels etc
I'm trying to think what I wore for afternoon tea...
I think I'd probably wear I lovely top and jacket and black jeans in the day then take the jacket off and change into heels for the eve... Something like that???

Screwfox · 08/09/2013 22:06

sure no jeans though ,black trews

Runandbecome · 08/09/2013 22:08

The Sanderson is quite funky (and the afternoon tea there is great!) - I wore skinny jeans and nice top when I went. Jeans are totally fine. Or a cool dress but dressed down a bit.

Screwfox · 08/09/2013 22:10

oh, jeans then ;)

bobkate · 08/09/2013 22:13

aphrabehn Yep, I was thinking about the purple one for the wedding, rather than the flowery one that I'm in on my profile. Just got to find time to go and try it on and then find some shoes/bag to go with it.

karbea I think it is still mad hatter themed so I'm really looking forward to it.

Brill, that sounds great and similar, I think, to the mint velvet look that screwfox linked to. I'd feel v comfy like that and love the heel size.

Thanks run - I may well try and find something similar to the mint velvet look if I can in time as I live in my skinny jeans so would like to feel like I'd made an effort. But great to know I can wear them if I can't find something.
That's what I thought....it's quite a funky place ( very hazy memories of going there when I had a disposable income, no kids, no husband and a cool job in the big smoke ) And the girls I'll be going with will all be very funky and fashionable young things I'm worried about looking like a nearly 40, stuck in a rut, knackered mum of 2 that I really am!

You won't look old, there's a real mix of people, people staying at the hotel, high class prostitutes all sorts.

JohnnyDeppsfuturewife · 08/09/2013 22:28

I'm not an expert in style or beauty but I had afternoon tea at the Sanderson a few months ago and I probably wore a jumper/ jersey dress (because I live in them) and my friend wore jeans, a nice top, blazer and matching jewellery (I am 100%certain because she lives in jeans). Neither of us felt uncomfortable.

Grin and phew!

Seen this http://www.mintvelvet.co.uk/gracie-print-tunic/dresses/mint-v/fcp-product/3093
Would that look okay under a biker style jacket?

OP posts:
bobkate · 08/09/2013 22:30

whoops...try that again...

And again, from a memory many moons ago, I think I had my colours done with my mum and I think I'm a spring to autumn, so I know I shouldn't wear black so would this do the job www.newlook.com/shop/womens/jackets-and-coats/chocolate-brown-leather-look-zip-pocket-biker-jacket_279874027

OP posts:
bobkate · 09/09/2013 23:40

So I'm boring myself now asking all these questions, but hey, what the hell I have another....

Say I go for the brown new look biker and the peach chee jersey dress from Nelly and black leggings.... what colour shoes should I get? Black or brown?

Which, if any, of these would be okay?

patent

plain suedette courts

plain leatherish court

camel and black with strap

dark red, but look like dark brown croc courts

OP posts:
AphraBehn · 10/09/2013 07:41

I prefer the first Nelly top tbh, and really like the jacket and the croc shoes.

Karbea · 10/09/2013 10:52

Prefer the first top.
I think the black suede shoes are the best.

AngieM2 · 10/09/2013 11:34

I went in January for a hen do. We were sat in the heated outdoor bar thing just drinking champers for a few hours from 12 - 3pm. Our group mainly wore dresses and heels/boots (weather was awful wintery and most had had to travel a distance). But when walking out to the loos it was lots of nicely dressed ladies ( some with kids) and most were dressed in nice skinny jeans, heels, nice tops or nice dresses. You will have a fab time - enjoy!
