Operation Renovation - aka The Christmas Countdown

HelgatheHairy · 01/09/2013 07:31

It's 115 days to Christmas Eve!

You can use this thread exactly like you were using the previous thread to keep track of what you're doing, have lists, ask advice etc. As its about renovation rather than strictly beauty, nothing is off limits so beauty, clothes, exercise, healthy eating.

So here we go!

Regarding colours - the warm or cool part is generally about whether you look better in silver or gold but I recently read somewhere that if you look at the veins on the inside of your wrist you can tell if you're warm because they look green and cool if they look blue.

Might be rubbish but mine definitely have a green tinge about them and I'm an autumn.

JemimaMuddledUp · 22/09/2013 16:30

Dilidali I almost always wear pearl studs as they seem to make my face look much brighter. Not sure how, but I'm often grateful for their effect!

Closetcat That is interesting about the veins. I can't work out whether I am autumn or winter, I have dark hair and eyes but am quite pale skinned. My veins are definitely very blue.

I'm actually starting to look a little bit more human today. The peeling skin around my nostrils has calmed down and the bags under my eyes are getting smaller.

Just got back from Next, where I was hoping to find some jeans in the sale. I couldn't find any that fit, the ones I liked weren't in stock any smaller than a 10 and the 10s were way too big. Which is annoying as I needed new jeans, but quite pleasing in that I needed a size 8 Grin

I will be doing my nails etc in front of Downton tonight, in the hope that some of the glamour might rub off on me...

Countdowntess · 22/09/2013 16:52

The PJ talk has made me smile Smile, I cleared all of my older mis-matched ones out over the summer and I really like only having ones that I could answer the door in!

Had quite a good weekend with the pampering. I have died my hair, de-fuzzed my legs, used a Lush face pack and sorted my nails out on top of all of my usual exfoliate and moisturising stuff.

I just found a new pair of skinny jeans in my drawer which are a size 12 and have never fitted...until now - yeah!

The colours link was interesting, I seem to be a cool winter (long dark wavy hair, very pale skin and blue/grey eyes) and my wardrobe pretty much matches apart from grey. It makes me look ill not glamorous so not sure what to make of that.

This thread really does help with keeping focused. I have treated myself to interesting tights, sparkly and patterned etc. Well if males can have fun with their choice of ties then I don't see why I cant have fun with my work tights. Although there were some very amused looks at my black spotty ones last week when I had to put on some safety shoes - not a glam look I can assure you.

Lucysmam I struggle with exercise too so ordered a weighted hula hoop which lives in my lounge. Just need something to watch on tv or a good music dvd for 20-30 minutes a night. Works for me.

Must do better's next week: Exercise and more early nights, oh and have been rubbish at drinking water so will up that too.

HelgatheHairy · 22/09/2013 17:02

jemima I like the micro-pedi. I have a lot of extremely dry rough skin on my feet due to an aversion to wearing shoes and socks outdoors in summer! It's definately helping but I need to change to buffer fairly often. After doing it I slather my feet in either Flexitol or Soap & Glory foot cream and put on socks. I think you would have to do it everyday to get the best results - I do it a few times a week when I get the time.

closetcat I am dark but my veins on wrists are one green one blue, I kid you not! Hope it doesn't sound wrong, but I can wear any colour. Including bright yellows, whites, black, grey. I don't like dusty pink. I prefer navy above all. But no colour that I noticed actually looks awful on me. Either that or I am deluded. What I simply can't do is match the darn things.

Hello lucysmum!!!!

Jemima, yes, exactly! Love pearl earrings. Is your skin slightly dark too? I shall join you for the Downton to my DH's absolute horror! Haven't watched the previous ones, I think I saw series one a bit, then perhaps the football season started and the TV wouldn't change channels. I am not big on watching TV, if it's football on I take a book in the bath with strict instructions for the kitchen to be tidied and wiped at half time. So...

count what a great idea! Funky tights! Ok, where do you get your pyjamas from? What are you wearing?
This goes for everybody with a 'thing' for pyjamas:inspire me, please!

helga I can't use flexitol, but I shall be looking for a soap and glory foot file. And thank you for keeping this thread going, appreciated!

Rummikub · 22/09/2013 17:29

Closetcat, that's really interesting about the veins. From that link I had worked out I am autumn and now I see my veins are green I am warm autumn. Wonder if I can print off that colour chart...

Karbea · 22/09/2013 17:32

Umm I've very yellow skin so gold looks better, but my veins are blue.

I still don't get it! My veins are blue....am still a cool something though Confused Blush

Face mask is on, camomile tea bags will have to wait until tomorrow...dp has gone to bed & I can't watch the kids with closed eyes Hmm Toes painted earlier so they're good and dry. Just waiting for mask to dry & I'll jump in the shower quickly....they usually come and talk to me while I'm in it (if both aren't in with me) so I'll know what they're up to.

2L water drunk through the day. Plus a couple of Brew 's and a peppermint tea. am just boiling the kettle for another peppermint one now.

Clothes and accessories are out for the morning, my old chunky knit, skinnies and boots. Possibly small sparkly earrings or pearls.

I'm going to start 'princessing' Hmm the house tomorrow. starting in dd2's room with a deep clean and clear out of her wardrobe as it's the smallest and easiest room to do. Ours will be last (hopefully before Xmas though), as it's a dumping ground.

Karbea · 22/09/2013 19:48

I need you all to give me a massive kick up the bum tmr. I've not had a shower yet today, I've two massive hormonal boils, first time in about three months. The house is a proper tip. I feel really poo!
DH is cooking dinner, pasta.

Lucy my house (and i) need sorting tomorrow, so I'm in it with you!

bigkidsdidit · 22/09/2013 19:56

Just had a successful eBay evening, I got a full length black wool whistles coat for £12 :) I am also watching two Brora cashmere cardies which I will probably go up to 30 on, they are lovely and in the shop are closer to £200. I have no clothes at the moment as I throw two bin bags of tatty / old / ill fitting stuff out so eBay is my friend!

Dilidali · 22/09/2013 20:09

karbea!!!!! How appalling! ( says the woman who was still in pyjamas and dressing gown till 12.30, no make up the whole day-and I did go out for lunch-with PM spots that can be seen from the moon). You know what? We're allowed on Sundays after a hard week. There!

bigkidsdidit bargain!!! So pleased for you! Hope you get the cardies!!! What colours?

CatAmongThePigeons · 22/09/2013 20:12

Bigkids we may be watching the same items, I'm only window shopping at the moment

I need to do a full beauty regime tonight, defuzz, sort hair, nails etc...

Does anyone know of any shops for good long tops? I can't find any I like for winter

petalsandstars · 22/09/2013 20:21

I'm in for house "princessing" too, my DH is on rest days for 2 days so I can get things done without DD undoing it as I go.

I need to clear out DD2s too small clothes and reorganise their wardrobe and a bomb appears to have gone off in the lounge so that's on my list too!

As for me, DDs allowed us a lie in till 8.30 this morning so I waited till bath time to shred, have painted fingers in a pinky purple shade today and about to jump in the shower. Had roast chicken courtesy of DH for tea so managed 6 fruit/veg today but not enough water considering the warm weather

My pjs are primark lounge pants atm as they have a lot of stretch so I bought them in pregnancy. I'm thinking of doing a Christmas eve hamper this year so may have some new ones then.

lucysmam · 22/09/2013 20:30

I am all done for today, dp fancies a bit of the other (on afters this week & gets in too late for me if you get me?) so have left my finger nails. Will do them in peace tomorrow night, they are filed and neat for tomorrow.

bigkids that's a bargain! I never think to check out ebay for bargains Confused

karbea I'm sporting a couple of huge hormonal spots too....one on the side of my jaw and one on the side of my mouth Hmm (that one now looks like a rather fetching dried up coldsore now it's dried up Sad )

I have a random question about flossing....I can't actually get the floss between any but a couple of my front teeth.....can anyone else manage any more? Confused

Paintyourbox · 22/09/2013 20:43

Evening all,

I am soooo full. My friend made the most amazing dinner, then gave me seconds then gave me pudding! I won't need food for the rest of the week now.

Dilidali I have Calvin Klein PJs, I absolutely love them- so warm and comfy. I got them from the designer outlet place so they weren't that expensive.

Don't be too hard on yourself Karbea look at it as a rest day then start fresh tomorrow.

I can only floss the first 4 teeth on the too and bottom Lucysmam according to my dentist if you struggle to get floss in, buy the dental tape instead as it's thinner. Seems to work.

I am going to get into my PJs, slather on some moisturiser and try to deflate my stomach somehow...

bigkidsdidit · 22/09/2013 20:55

How weird cat Grin

I love eBay. While I'm paying a king's ransom in childcare I can't buy good quality stuff new so I grt it all there. You should look Lucy, there are loads of bargains, particularly now as people sell things to afford Christmas.

lucysmam · 22/09/2013 20:59

hmmmm, I'd have no idea what to look for! Will download the app & have a ping pong about tomorrow while dp's at work.

Karbea · 22/09/2013 21:03

I've now had a shower, scrubbed and put on body lotion. Now in Next PJs which I reckon must be at least 15 years old.
Just weighed myself and the heaviest I've been in 2 years!

Flossing I use these floss pick things, I can't get my hands in the right place to use regular floss.

bigkidsdidit · 22/09/2013 21:03

I search shop and my size eg Zara 10 or Brora medium otherwise you get pages of stuff in the wrong size!

Karbea · 22/09/2013 21:04

I got a console table last week for £150'thats rrp is £1750.

Dilidali · 22/09/2013 21:28

Thanks for letting me know about the pyjamas.
I like new pyjamas and slippers for christmas mornings. I also like to dress up ( I make them all dress up, actually) by lunchtime. Still in slippers though! God, I must kick the slippers habit, or find something different. Last year I let DH chose me the slippers. I now sport a dirty Yeti look ( they're not dirty, just a dirt colour). One got a hole in the bottom, oh, shame, need new ones :)
Off to google pyjamas.

lucysmam · 22/09/2013 21:37

I'll start ebay browsing tomorrow!

I like Christmas pj's and slippers too...dd2 picked my current ones Hmm they're pigs & were for my birthday this year. Bless her, she managed not to tell me all the way from buying them with dp the week before until I was about to open them....then took the package off me because "you have to wear the piggys mummy" Grin

New pj's are actually this weeks thing to buy for Christmas here!

vvviola · 22/09/2013 23:28

Morning Grin

Am feeling a bit pleased with myself this morning. DD2 woke up at 6am but instead of dozing on the couch while she climbs all over me, I got all the morning jobs done before breakfast. Which meant I had time for a long shower - I am defuzzed, exfoliated and moisturised. I'm in comfy casual clothes as I've 3 hours in the library before a 2 hour lecture, but they are coordinated & I'm even wearing matching underwear in case I get hit by a bus

I even managed a healthy breakfast Grin

(I may have had to have a consolation cookie & coffee after watching NZ fail to win the one race they need to win the America's Cup Blush)
