So I thought the buzz was that M&S were supposed to have got their sartorial shit together with their new Collection?

Really? These tights?

Really? Those leggings? Those shoes?

Ye gads

Think I'll get this

Laundry yes! I remember loving a couple of coats from the media splash and have been looking out for them online and when I could pop into a store ever since. Not a sign.

Were you the poster who had worked for them and explained the stock ordering point on a previous M&S ranting thread? Because that would explain everything. And is bonkersly wrong.

gindrinker · 28/08/2013 17:21

The problem is that m+s try to cater for everyone...and appeal to no one.
They want:
Autograph - sophisticated working women. Matching suits, shell tops and 'key pieces' in natural fibers. Top end market with whistles cos etc

Limited: younger audience, more fashion forward. Shorter skirts, interesting but wearable shapes.

What you get is a mishmash of copies, not done well. Totally missing the style element. The boden tweed dress is stylish because of the fabric. Change it to red tartan and you loose all the style.

Pachacuti · 28/08/2013 17:23

I swear I saw a couple of photos of the A/W children's collection from the press launch back in March or thereabouts that made it look good. But now it turns out they were the only nice things and the rest is same old, same old.

MadBusLady · 28/08/2013 17:24

The Twiggy stuff has been glam granny wear from the off, I don't think that was meant to be part of the big relaunch.

Platinumstart · 28/08/2013 17:52

I don't understand how the consistently get it soooo wrong.

They have money....they could attract some serious talent wooed by the cache of turning something failing around.

Then just sort out there stylists and photographers

NoComet · 28/08/2013 17:57

Patent flats with bows, are six yearolds party shoes.

They should never be seen on an adult.

As for that £100plus snow leopard, words fail me.
I know teens the ditsy skirt would look great on with thin or opaque tights and matt shoes.

NoComet · 28/08/2013 18:43

I've just flicked through the kids stuff, not one thing is nice enough to link to.

bunnymother · 28/08/2013 19:07

I'm going to go against the grain here. I went to M&S at Marble Arch today, and some of the Autograph things were lovely. Particularly the bags. The bags look luxe.

Now, I wouldn't buy all of it (esp as I don't work), but some of it looked good. Shame my 2 year old mistook the £600 (yes, £600) shearling for a dog when she bumped into it: "oh, a dog". Thank God she didn't damage it. But the cashmere lined leather gloves for £35 will have me going back to look again. Ditto the bags.

Capitola · 28/08/2013 19:16

Hahaha to that Topshop skirt, MadBusLady.

It drew my attention to this t-shirt which I have told my 15 year old ds I am going to buy him for those days.

Capitola · 28/08/2013 19:17

Link fail

LittleMissGerardButlerfan · 28/08/2013 19:24

What I don't understand is why M&S aren't sticking to what they are good at. They are trying to be trendy when what most people want is good quality everyday stuff.

I like some of the indigo range but its expensive for what it is.

They just don't learn do they

At least their food is nice :o

Gingerstrumpet · 28/08/2013 19:25

Oh, the middle aged prostitute collection. Great.

NotAsTired · 28/08/2013 19:27

I think you have to look really hard to find some really nice things. See, I like this and in the style edit (staying power) part of the website and in store, this blouse looks good but here it just looks boring and beige and frumpy.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 28/08/2013 19:28

Must admit that even their food doesn't excite me much. They haven't changed their veggie section for years.

The 'Collection' is the one that was being mooted as the new and exciting M&S. Autograph has always had a couple of decent bits.

The ditsy skirt would be fine on young legs and is not offensive in itself, but the stylist needs shooting.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 28/08/2013 19:30

I like the coat. The blouse would be okay but it's 100% polyester, which is another of the problems with M&S imho.

I bought this because it's the same style as a khaki one I got a lot of wear out of last A/W. I wear them as mini dresses though.

MissBracegirdle · 28/08/2013 19:58

The problem with that blouse is the styling and the model just doesn't suit it.
Toast do blouses which are just as 'boring' yet they are impeccably styled and they use models with colouring to suit the clothes.
It's not even that hard to do, they generally just have a table and a coloured wall and one nice bowl or something.

Allthingspretty · 28/08/2013 20:13

noddy I think I saw the coat today.

goodasitgets · 28/08/2013 20:21

I found myself browsing Per Una the other day Shock
Then I came to my senses and exited swiftly to the food hall
I have recently bought some leopard print heels Blush which are gorgeous, and a pair of the 5 pocket jeggings

TSSDNCOP · 28/08/2013 22:24

There are a few nice things in Autograph, I bought a black skirt with a pleather hem yesterday and there's a lovely navy pea coat.

I'd link it but because the tablet website is so utterly crap and impossible to navigate I can't.

Orianne · 28/08/2013 22:34

I'd like to know where this dress is available. It was in Red magazine this month and I've been going into M & S specially and for Percy Pigs looking for it.

Bunbaker · 28/08/2013 22:34

I'm struggling to understand what is wrong with the tights. They don't go with the skirt, but loads of people at work wear barely black tights in the office and so do I.

CMOTDibbler · 28/08/2013 22:37

I was delighted when they said that they would have loads of dresses with sleeves. And ordered a red work dress with lovely 3/4 sleeves. It would have looked great if the peplum hadn't been cut such that it created a weird over stomach pouch effect.

LadyBigtoes · 28/08/2013 22:38

Yes! I saw that feature too and thought that dress looked fab.

neolara · 28/08/2013 22:41

My dh says it looks like she's wearing a teeny, tiny pair of pants

DIddled · 28/08/2013 22:41

Omg Panda minge!!! Who would wear that!!!!

I have seen a few bits but the stuff I have ordered to date has gone back- as the bloke from Catchphrase said ' It's good but it's not quite right'. :(
