I've never bought anything from Cos but looking at the website, I like that grim aesthetic. Any views?

Weird that people are saying that they find the sizes small. Everything I've tried on has come up huge! There was a low backed top in there a few months ago and even the extra small was far too big for me (I'm a 12) and most of the t-shirts and shirts seem massive on me.

Kezztrel · 26/08/2013 11:28

Remus I've found the trousers massive so I assume it's just really variable. I'm trusting FaddyPeony that the tshirts aren't going to drown me Grin

Mominatrix · 26/08/2013 12:00

Cos is definitely a store that one needs to try on in person. Even seeing something on a hangar is not good enough - many of their clothes are not very photogenic, and look much better on a person.

FaddyPeony · 26/08/2013 12:01

Yikes, I'm feeling the pressure now! I forgot to say that my T-shirts are 2 years old - really hope they haven't changed their sizing since then Smile

Kezztrel · 26/08/2013 12:20

Haha, don't worry about it Faddy I'm sure they will be fine, and if not I will exchange!

goforthejobular · 26/08/2013 14:00

Absolutely love the stuff in there. Too fat for it all unfortunately.

AwkwardSquad · 26/08/2013 14:56

I've just ordered a load of stuff. Had to be via the website and I don't live anywhere near a COS shop.

I've ordered some of the items in two sizes so fingers crossed some of it fits and looks good Grin. I'm 5ft 7, size 10 and no curves so it sounds like it should work for me... I'll have to work on the slightly bandy-legend stance and grim expression though.

LapsedGoth · 26/08/2013 19:56

Another Cos fan here. Tall-ish size 12-ish pear shape and find the trousers don't tend to work too well. Apart from that I love it and find the sack-like dresses cam be improved massively with one of their lovely belts, and some of their much-more-expensive-looking jewelry. And I don't even reckon the website does the stuff justice - great quality for the ££

SweetieTime · 26/08/2013 20:15

I love Cos too, I am 5ft4 & size 14 with boyish figure (slim hips & no waist) but with reasonable size norks and find the fit great. I live in Yorkshire so only get down to London occasionally but ALWAYS visit a Cos store. I agree with other posters that you can never go by the sizing or how things look on the hanger, it is a case of trying things on.

I have dresses for work and tunics mainly, I am currently 22 weeks pregnant with twins and finding the loose fit very accommodating for my growing bump.

We have a weekend planned in London in 2 weeks time and I am already looking at Cos online to decide what I might still fit into. I will definitely be visiting a store while down, even if to only look. Who am I kidding?

thaliablogs · 26/08/2013 20:26

Just had such an awesome shopping spree in cos due to this thread. Am 5'9" and curvy. Size 14. Several of the dresses were too short for my middle aged legs, but found 2 that were gorgeous, one for work, one for casual. Also a button-back tangerine-colour sweater, lovely silky grey tshirt, navy cardigan smart enough for work, and a cream stiff textured short sleeve work top.

Totally agree website does not do justice, for example the colour block dress has a really nice contrast between the green and the navy which does not show at all on the screen.

MissBetseyTrotwood · 26/08/2013 20:51

I second the try it on advice. I've tanked when I've shopped online from there but had some fab success when buying in the shop. Watch out for the fibres too; it can be a bit polyester heavy sometimes for surprisingly high prices.

That said, I have many, many clothes from there, especially for work.

Somethingyesterday · 26/08/2013 22:47

Thalia Very impressed with your haul - particularly the leather pocket dress. (I practically lived in one of their half leather tops last winter.) Regarding dress length - have you considered using a short dress as a tunic over narrow trousers?

WifeofGru · 26/08/2013 22:53

Love COS. Great for simple work clothes especially the dresses. Just stick on a dress and necklace and you're done. No need to think about matching tops and bottoms. I tend to wait for their sale as the dresses are then a real bargain.
I do think you need to try on as some things look terrible on the hangers. I agree that not best fit for all. I am 5'9" and the lengths are good, but would drown someone smaller.

AwkwardSquad · 29/08/2013 20:27

My COS order arrived today and I have done quite well! I'm keeping four out of six items, and I found that the small / size 36 fitted me well, except for the trousers (too small) and a cocoon dress (too big).

I'm keeping:
cherry a line skirt
wool jumper dress
pintuck dress
pleated grey dress

The black dress is delightfully severe. The grey dress is very thin which is a bit disappointing as it's no good for work, but I really like it so I'm going to keep it. The skirt is really nice quality. And I can never have enough jumper dresses!

Now I really really want to get to a COS store so I can try everything else on.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 29/08/2013 20:28

Love that black dress. can I ask how tall you are and how long it is on you? Unfortunately their dresses are usually at least a foot too long for me!

AwkwardSquad · 29/08/2013 20:40

It is rather nice Smile. I'm 5ft 7 and it hits just above the knee.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 29/08/2013 20:42

No use for little me then! Thank you.

AwkwardSquad · 29/08/2013 20:48

Not much room for norks so prob no good for your shape anyway, from what you said upthread. I am quite straight up and down, sadly. Makes finding decent jackets a right pain.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 29/08/2013 20:49

Not that I actually need any more black dresses anyway tbh. :)

thaliablogs · 31/08/2013 10:20

somethingyesterday I haven't, I always think I am too bulky for that look - big hips! I might try it though if I can find the right trousers.

Kezztrel · 08/09/2013 17:58

Faddy just wanted to let you know that the t-shirts you recommended upthread arrived and are perfect! The size S is very slouchy but not overly so, and the black one is a fair bit smaller than the navy so glad I didn't go for XS in the end. But you're right, they hang beautifully and even look good untucked - insouciant rather than shabby ;) They're less sheer than I expected too so don't need anything under them.
