Where do they buy their clothes?

My mum is approaching 80 but doesn't look or act it! However she really struggles to find clothes she likes, that are comfy but not frumpy etc.
We have finally got through to her that beige/fawn/taupe/cream/pale khaki do nothing for her and she is wearing stronger colours and looks a lot better for it
But she just doesn't get inspired shopping, doesn't have the energy to traipse round all day but isn't into trawling the Internet either,

She asked me to ask you where your older mums get their clothes

a fair bit in M&S, plus some boutiques that she has been going to for years in local towns. She buys good quality things in the sales mostly and certainly doesn't dress the way her own mother did in her late 70s. Actually when I am home I often let my mother choose clothes for me and although there are a few fails she usually chooses well.

Bon marche and matalan unfortunately ,I gave up years ago

MIL is a very stylish 90 and likes Eastex , Viyella, some M&S. I totally agree about the bloody beige, she looks fab in brighter colours.

Department stores and small boutiques usually. Well made and well cut stuff life Viyella. Well, that's the only brand I remember. Never M&S.

M&S, or Country Casuals.

Or some weirdy organic fair-trade cotton kaftan brochure.

M&S, BHS, Bon Marche etc. Always looks nice though although she won't listen to my MN bra fitting advice

My mum is a huge fan of Per Una, with a bit of normal M&S thrown in. She particularly likes all things 'speziale' .

Good quality stuff in the sales. Country casuals, viyella, Edinburgh wool mill, jaegar, John Lewis and debenhams.

Organic fair trade catalogue here too, plus outlet type shops (Edinburgh woollen mill etc), plus lots of other mail order places that I've never heard of. She has avoided the beige trap and is tall and slim and doesn't really look her age.

I am turning into my mum already.

My Mum lives in Canada wher the clothes shopping is truly dire..she gets excited in Mackays ,M&S and East.

My DM is 82 and has dressed the same way for as long as I can remember She is not remotely fashionable and is still wearing clothes that she made herself, both sewn and knitted. Other than that, I think it's mainly M&S or Edinburgh Woollen Mill type stuff. Beige features as well as dull prints that she puts with home-made natural colours jumpers

I think my mum needs to head to department stores more. She tends not to spend much on clothes, a hangover from when they were younger and we had very little spare cash. She can afford better quality now and think she should push the boat out a bit and will probably find more.
I'll pass on all your suggestions.

M&S, Debenhams, BHS and my DD1 has just introduced her to Primark which she has taken to with aplomb!

My mum is 75 - she shops mostly in charity shops but is a complete snob about it and only buys "good makes". She actually usually looks very stylish and is not averse to being a bit quirky. She does love a Per Una cardi with mixed coloured and shaped buttons tho'

Mine keeps pinching my clothes, so Boden, top shop, new look etc. when she buys her own its debenhams and m & s.

Could you book her a personal shopper session in John Lewis or somewhere like that?

M&S jeans, skirts or trousers.

Autograph or Coast tops for best which I buy her.

Casual t-shirts/jumpers rest of the time depending on season.

She has UGGs too. She's 76. She likes to spot fakes

Pruner for special occasions - or should that be speziale occasions?
Primark, Asda and "Mataland" for every day.

She is very fond of pink. She has dyed pale orange hair.

Next, saisnbury's, coast, phase eight. My mum looks amazing at 70

My mil is 75 and looks very stylish most of the time. She buys a lot in M&S but doesn't mind splurging on the odd item, especially coats. She has lovely ones from Jaegar and Barbour. She enjoys shopping though, and will hunt and hunt for the right item once she decides she needs a new skirt or whatever. I think she looks everywhere but House of Fraser is definitely a favourite.
