Bras (again!..I know, I know!) Can we have a thread for bras to fit shallow breasts?

I wondered if it might be useful to have a thread to share tips on bras to fit shallow breasts?

Mine are wide root, shallow and full on bottom and what a pain in the arse it is to find a bra which fits!

I cannot fill a full cup bra, or any of the normal Freya unpadded bras (gutted cos I found some for ?13 today in Debenhams!) plus the ones I tried gave a weird sort of pointy shape which I didn't like.

I tried on some of the Gorgeous balconettes in Debenhams today in my size which is 30G. They were fine in the band but at least one size too small in the cup and there were none in 30GG for me to try. However, the shape was great for my boobs.

From this post on shallow breasts I would love to try one of the Freya half cup balconettes or the Lepel Fiore half cup. Does anyone know what these are like for size? I could not fill the Freya 30G Rio I tried on today, nor even the 30FF, but I don't know if that was a shape issue or if they run bigger in the cup.

I have one bra which fits, a Cleo Juna in 30G - it's a little small in the cup but wearable, but it's so bulky feeling that I would rather not just buy another one of those.

I'd love any ideas you might have!

I have this problem too - it really gets on my tits, pardon the pun. I'm like you, and anything unpadded looks appalling. I agree with you about the Freya unpadded bras giving a weird pointy shape, and I loathe the tacky sheer material they use. That said, try the Freya Taylor Underwired Moulded Plunge Bra. It's padded and gives oomph to shallow breasts as it pushes them up at the fullest part.

SorrelForbes · 10/08/2013 14:34

The Cleo Lucy is meant to be good for shallow boobs.

msshapelybottom · 10/08/2013 17:17

TheFillyjonk (what a name!! fabulous) Thanks for the suggestion. The last time I tried a plunge I looked weird, but I'm willing to try something new :)

Sorrel, thanks. That one looks lovely and some pretty colours too :)

Ebay, here I come...

You might also like to try the bravissimo half cups, curvy kate showgirls, bravissimo satine. IME the freya deco and derivatives arent great if you are emptier on top as they tend to gape

TheFillyjonk · 10/08/2013 17:35

Hehe, thanks msshapelybottom. I look weird in other plunges too, but this one is more of a balcony than a plunge (though it does give good cleavage). There are some good bargains on Freya at the moment - the bra I recommended is selling on eBay for about £15, and Figleaves have got discounts on Freya and Fantasie with free delivery this weekend.

Curvy Kate half cups like Thrill Me are excellent, too.

msshapelybottom · 10/08/2013 18:11

Statistically, thanks, I hadn't thought of looking at Bravissimo. I will wait to see if any of those go on sale (there's a gorgeous green and blue balcony which looks so pretty!) I think it was a Deco I tried before, when I was a little smaller, and it just didn't work at all so I have steered clear of plunges ever since.

Filly, I am loving the idea of extra "oomph" although I am still getting used to the sight of myself in the Juna. I am wasting hours of my life today looking at bras on Ebay :)

I've ordered a Cleo Lucy from Ebay for ?22 incl postage, fingers crossed it fits cos it looks so pretty.

Will have to check out the Curvy kate bras too.

I wish Debenhams would get their cup sizes straightened out, it's so much easier trying bras on first!

Yes! Good luck in your search, msshapelybottom. There's been some great tips on this thread which I'll be taking advantage of, too. Come back and let us know what works for shallow boobs!

msshapelybottom · 10/08/2013 21:43

Thanks Filly, I will report back!

Marking my place and checking in to see if you've managed to find anything decent msshapely

msshapelybottom · 19/08/2013 12:08

Well, Cleo Lucy arrived today (30G) and it's good but not perfect. It's certainly the best fit out of the other unpadded bras that I have worn (Panache Tango 11...horrible bra and pointy shape but nice wide wires and a Debenhams full cup which gave a nice shape but I had to make adjustments to. Let's not even mention the Freya unpadded balconettes which gave me boob rage as they were such a bad fit!)

The Lucy does have wide wires although I think I could even do with wires which come up higher under the arm as I have a lot of tissue under my armpit. The shape is nice and rounded and relaxed and the band feels a lot firmer than the Juna, which is good because I always feel that one is riding up even when it's fastened on a tighter hook. I do have wrinkling in the cup on my smaller side, but it's not very noticable. No wrinkling on the bigger side.

I would love an unpadded balconette which has horizontal cups at the top but vertical seams...They all seem to have that lacy top section which I don't really like...is there any such thing? Might try a Freya padded half cup next or a Lepel Fiore balconette.

I don't know if this is just a weird body quirk of mine, but because I have shallow breasts there is tissue almost right up to my collarbone and I always have spillage over the central gore. It just looks a bit messy Smile

I've got this problem - 30E but boobs look pretty small due to shallowness, and I can't fill the top of most 30E bras. I have 3 of this one because it fits perfectly and gives a lovely neat shape - it sits flat against the top of my chest so no gaping. It's not pretty but very useful!

SorrelForbes · 19/08/2013 12:28

Definitely try the Lepel Padded balconette and the full cup (which is more like an un-padded balconette anyway)

msshapelybottom · 19/08/2013 16:12

Kezztrel, I would never have looked twice at that bra because it's molded, but it's great to know it's good for shallow boobs! Is it very comfy?

Sorrel, I will order another bra next month (god this bra business is expensive!!) and I think I'm going to try one of those, depending on what I can find on Ebay. I'm still searching for the holy grail of bras!

One this to note about the Cleo Lucy, it's not immediately comfortable. I'm being polite here. It's the worst I've tried so far, and considering the Panache Tango is in there, that's saying something. The band is very hard. I'm really hoping it softens up soon. I've also bent the wires out the way a little bit, it feels a little better, but I'd still love it to have higher wires. What I actually need is some kind of scoop on the back of the bra to catch the fat I have hanging around on the back of my armpits Grin

The search continues!

msshapelybottom Have a look on Amazon for the Lepel bras. The last time I looked there were some on there for £14.99. Apparently the Pale blue and Lemonade shades in the Plunge are a slightly different cut to the other colours. Lepel are going to return to the usual cut for next season.

Indith · 19/08/2013 16:21

good thread. I too have shallow breasts. currently have Cleo juna which is good on me but size keeps fluctuating ad still bf. need to move down a band size really now and cups a bit big too except ds has had a feeding frenzy recently so that is less of a problem!

pre children the Elle McPherson range fitted me like a glove. they only go up to a d cup though I think and size small so probably more like a c. could be good for someone though!

I hate fullcup bras. I hate fitters trying to convince you it looks fine with your gaping fabric.

msshapelybottom · 19/08/2013 16:47

Sorrel, thanks, I didn't even think of checking Amazon! Good to know about the colours too :)

Indith, you can have a lovely shopping spree once your boobs settle down! Fitters put the fear of god into me, (no Bravissimo here so no lovely knowledgeable fitters) and I still have images of the Debenhams woman looking at me with disdain and trying to convince me that I needed a 34 back. Never again!

How do you know if you have shallow breasts? or wide root?

SorrelForbes · 19/08/2013 17:08

This diagram is quite useful

SorrelForbes · 19/08/2013 17:08

and this one.

ShyGirlie · 19/08/2013 17:11

i cant see any diagram!

SorrelForbes · 19/08/2013 17:12

That pic is a bit small, this one might be better.

nocarsgo · 19/08/2013 17:22

Images don't display if you use the app ShyGirlie. I found this out the hard way!

Can't see them either, but I'll come back later because I reckon this if my problem. My boobs lack volume and I struggle to fill cups that fit width wise. Bra buying is a nightmare.

ShyGirlie · 19/08/2013 17:27

ok i'll check later too as i'm on the app on my phone - that must be the problem! thanks!

SorrelForbes · 19/08/2013 17:42

Sorry all, didn't realise that was the case with the app.
