Bras (again!..I know, I know!) Can we have a thread for bras to fit shallow breasts?

I wondered if it might be useful to have a thread to share tips on bras to fit shallow breasts?

Mine are wide root, shallow and full on bottom and what a pain in the arse it is to find a bra which fits!

I cannot fill a full cup bra, or any of the normal Freya unpadded bras (gutted cos I found some for ?13 today in Debenhams!) plus the ones I tried gave a weird sort of pointy shape which I didn't like.

I tried on some of the Gorgeous balconettes in Debenhams today in my size which is 30G. They were fine in the band but at least one size too small in the cup and there were none in 30GG for me to try. However, the shape was great for my boobs.

From this post on shallow breasts I would love to try one of the Freya half cup balconettes or the Lepel Fiore half cup. Does anyone know what these are like for size? I could not fill the Freya 30G Rio I tried on today, nor even the 30FF, but I don't know if that was a shape issue or if they run bigger in the cup.

I have one bra which fits, a Cleo Juna in 30G - it's a little small in the cup but wearable, but it's so bulky feeling that I would rather not just buy another one of those.

I'd love any ideas you might have!

My boobs don't look like any of those!

msshapelybottom · 19/08/2013 18:14

There are some examples on vanusian glow and more here

Shallow breasts are kind of close to the body and spread out rather than being "up front".

They don't stick out very far in front, so it's harder to fill certain types of bra, also there might be lots of breast tissue in the armpits, hence the need for wider wires to hold it all in place!

I just remembered a few years ago I had 2 lovely Masquerade balconettes which fit beautifully (in a 30D, I was probably still in the wrong size but I was a lot slimmer all over!!)

They are £££ though, I might see if I can find any bargains...anyone have any experience of these fit wise?

I have that porcelain bra that Kezztrel linked upthread but it doesn't fit me very well, I don't fill the top half of the cups. I have the Cleo Maddie, 28GG, and I find it very tight on the back. I am quite marked from it in the evening and by 9pm I have to take it off!
The Cleo Maddie is fine but not great, I had a quadraboob issue with the 28G and gaping with the 28GG. Prob should have tried 30F or G.

Will have a look at the Lepel. At this stage I couldn't care less about colours if I found a good fit. Will also try the Cleo Juna, I see lots like it here.

I was looking at the masquerade Rhea last night!! Thought it might be worth a go but I read poor reviews. It does look like it would suit a shallow-boobed gal, doesn't it?

Ah, this is the thread for me! I found out my correct bra size from other threads on here but have had a hell of a time trying to find any bras (even in the right size) that fit - I'm also wide root, very shallow. The only two I've managed to find so far which are comfortable and don't gape at the top are this one from John Lewis and this one which I can't afford Sad

Will have to try some of the suggestions above...

coffeeinbed · 19/08/2013 18:53

I have two M&S bras that work well.
Could not find them on the website though. Will have to look on the bras in a minute.

coffeeinbed · 19/08/2013 19:54

Not on website and can't make out what's on labels.
I think they were called Perfect fit of something, wide, almost half cups, open on top, lace under the cups.
Hmmm

msshapelybottom · 19/08/2013 20:21

Just found this brilliant blog post on wide/narrow wires and breast shape. The silly putty helps explain the different shapes really well.

msshapelybottom · 19/08/2013 20:22

Coffeeinbed, those bras sound perfect for shallow types. I wish M&S did a better range of sizes!

Hi, I'm glad you started this one up. I think I have shallow breasts too - they are quite large but wide set, low slung and somewhat pendulous. I think I'm probably 32G but tried on a Fantasie Belle in Debenhams the other day (about the only 32G in the shop) - the band was too big and the cups weren't filled. it's this one
I wanted to try a 30G just to check, but they didn't have it - typical.

Does anyone know whether Fantasie bands tend to come up a bit large?

I think I've been wearing this Fantasie Belle style for about 6 years (not the same bra for 6 years!... but they're probably a good 18 months old now Blush or maybe older Blush Blush - label's washed out anyway... and I've been wearing 34E anyway...)

Never mind, I'm going to Bravissimo tomorrow and will take this list!

Zoomania · 19/08/2013 20:47

I found some padded gel bras in la senza that work.

msshapelybottom · 19/08/2013 20:52

Someone more knowledgeable will be able to correct me if I'm talking out of my arse, but I have a feeling that Fantasie comes under the same umbrella as Freya and I think they share a similar bra construction.

If you are shallow it's possible you just won't be able to fill this type of bra no matter what size you try. I tried a Freya unpadded bra which was hilariously empty even in a smaller cup size!

Happy Bravissimo shopping :) try on lots, hopefully you can get loads of great advice from the fitters in there!

OP posts:
lurkingaround · 19/08/2013 20:53

Will you come back and tell us how you did in Bravissimo hardtostay? I'd be interested to hear what they recommend. Tell them there's a whole thread that's gonna buy bras based on your experience Grin

msshapelybottom · 19/08/2013 20:54

Zoomania, excellent! Another one to add to the list :)

OP posts:
msshapelybottom · 19/08/2013 20:59

No pressure now hardtostay Grin but tell us everything...

OP posts:
SorrelForbes · 19/08/2013 21:01

Yes, Fantasie and Freya are both owned by Eveden. They have weaker wires and come up bigger than the Panache family of bras.

coffeeinbed · 19/08/2013 21:05

I bought two.
Sadly one was before I read up here about sizes and it's too big.
Got a perfect fitting one as well.

lurkingaround · 19/08/2013 22:33

I had a browse thru that blog you linked msshapely and this is what one of their fitters who has fitted over a thousand clients found:

4) Over half of the women we do consultations for measure between 24 and 31 inches around their ribcage.

Probably not completely relevant to this thread but worth noting.
TAKE NOTE BRA MANUFACTURERS. Small backed women are not unusual.

msshapelybottom · 20/08/2013 07:37

Lurking, that's just nuts. So less than half of the women measured are represented by the high street bra stockists! La Senza even starts at 34 back, I think 34B is still seen as the "average" bra size.

I was browsing Ebay yesterday and I saw some sets for sale: Bra size 34C, knickers size 8-10. I measure 31 around the ribs, yet I am a size 14-16!

Just goes to show the amount of misinformation about the size of women and their proper bra measurement.

msshapelybottom · 20/08/2013 07:39

Coffee, I had 6 bras which were my old size. I don't even know how I managed to shoehorn myself into them now really.

I have this problem, plus i'm a C cup, most of these bras start at a D/DD. It's bloody annoying! I have one ra that fits nicely, from Debenhams. I have 2 more that are too big, but wearable. The rest of my bra drawer is unwearable! Grrr.

OnTheNingNangNong · 20/08/2013 08:58

I have this problem am a 32f/ff. I have the Curvy Kate Tempt Me, which is good, but you need to size up and they are not doing that line any more.

I cannot fit into any full cup bras, I spill out of most balconette bras, so plunge seems to be the only one to give me a decent shape.
