So I know that people in London wear normal clothes but I fancy talking about it anyway. Indulge me please.

I know that I can wear what on earth I want, and I know that nobody cares, but we're having a few days in London next week and the weather looks very changeable. I don't really want to buy new clothes and I will obviously bring a brolly but should I buy a pack-a-parka thing too? Warm and wet is so hard to get right imho.

I have got:
obligatory brolly
jeans
cigarette trousers
tube skirts - long, short, midi
jersey dresses
sandals
Converse
ballet shoes
various tops etc
cotton biker
leather biker (doubt I'll want that)
denim jacket

Anybody fancy styling me? Want tp pack as light as possible too. :)

Okay - am just about to start packing!

So far I have:
brolly
Whistles tube skirt
2 black t shirts
Converse
one black jersey dress
nightie and undies
Am now stuck...

If you are going to be walking, I would avoid ballet shoes. They are hard on the feet.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 24/07/2013 16:21

Yup - have just got Converse at the mo, and will probably pack my sandals too.

Make up and earrings!Grin

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 24/07/2013 16:30

Make up, yes.
I no longer have pierced ears. I let them heal up years ago and am too cowardly to get them re-done. [shame]

valiumredhead · 24/07/2013 16:37

Have you not just jammed some through?Grin

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 24/07/2013 16:57

Agh - no. My friend used to do her own with a safety pin when we were at school, but I am far too delicate. Grin

What else shall I pack? I have added a 50s skirt and a black camisole to the pile. So far EVERYTHING is black, or black and white.

I don't own a brolley Grin I always get poked in the eyes by other peoples brollies though

Take a foldaway bag for small purchases or you'll end up carting round a load of tatty plastic bags.

I'm currently sitting outside St Pauls and woman has just walked past me wearing black cigarette trousers and a loose black sleeveless shirt with a red/pink floral print. She looked cool and casual but her outfit could easily be worn in a smart restaurant or bar. Have also seen a few variations of printed harems/ black vest top and sandals which looks rather good as well.

AphraBehn · 24/07/2013 17:32

Basically, you name an outfit I bet I could spot someone wearing it!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 24/07/2013 17:33

I don't think me and harems is ever going to be a good look tbh. :)

I do have lovely cigarette trousers though.

Hot pants and converse Envy

Oooh, loose grey jersey dress with long pendant and birkenstocks. That looks nice.

AphraBehn · 24/07/2013 17:40

I had better stop people watching on your thread now.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 24/07/2013 17:42

Loose grey jersey dress sounds good. If you are going to keep posting nice outfits, you need to ask people where things are from!

I wouldnt take mini skirts tbh, everyone can look up whilst your hiking up and down tube stairs and awkward to sit on bus/ tubes without flashing

X3 tops
X1 cotton trousers/ harems
X1 longer skirt
X1 dress

Personally I always think smarter is received better. Even if we pop to the park and cafe for ice cream I wouldn't dress too scruffy as I find people stare or you get poor service.

I always find our children ( well behaved), are better received in places if smarter dressed too

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 24/07/2013 17:47

It is over the knee, rather than mini - and I doubt anyone will want to look up it!

The dc are teens and if I told them to dress up, their astonished stares would kill me! They will be dressed in their usual Converse and skinnies, I imagine.

Does a Whistles skirt and a White Company dress really sound scruffy? Shock

If you needed another reason to go to Spitalfields there is this fantastic place to visit: Dennis Severs' House - only open Sunday afternoon though.

I hope you have fun.

MadBusLady · 24/07/2013 17:52

I would over-pack on the tops. It is so bloody hot and humid here at the moment, you might find you want to have a quick shower between the daytime activities and going out for the evening, and it's horrid to put manky sweaty tees back on.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 24/07/2013 17:54

I am desperate to go to DS' House, but it doesn't fit in with our train times etc this time around. :(

I am v low on warm weather tops - have packed a couple and will buy more when there if needed!

OP posts:
daylily · 24/07/2013 17:58

Ah never mind it's better in winter - go at dusk, it's very atmospheric especially when they do the Christmas decorations.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 24/07/2013 17:59

I will. Thank you. :)

bigTillyMint · 24/07/2013 18:59

It is hot and muggy here in London - you need light, loose cotton clothingSmile

AmberNectarine · 24/07/2013 19:00

Is that your Carrie skirt remus, lol at harems being a smarter option!

I am a londonite and have mostly been wearing a black cutaway maxi skirt and loose vest with sandals, or boyfriend shorts, sleeveless tee and smoking slippers.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 24/07/2013 19:06

Not a Carrie skirt - tis a wonderful cotton one, with naked Greek statue men on it. :)

I've packed a black silk tank vest thing - everything else is cotton. Just need to decide what to travel in now...And if I need to take a cotton jacket or cotton jumper at all???
