What age are people who wear Boden?

I don't mean children but the grownup clothes. I've always wrongly or rightly associated it with middle-class mums, am I wrong? Am I just stereotyping here?

30s and I see a few 30 something colleagues wearing it. None of us really go for the big splashy prints much. The quality seems good, I've only worn out one piece of clothing in the seven years since I discovered Boden, but I find the fit of most of the dresses rather odd on me.

I only ever bought skirts, tops and cardigans from them in the main. But they, in more recent years, started to sell dresses with waists , rather than the empire style they were so fond of. So now I have quite a few dresses too.

I see more people in their 30s/40s wearing Boden, but Joules seems more popular as far as high street fashion goes.

I'm 45 and buy and wear lots of Boden. I guess I'm the stereotype you're thinking of but I really don't mind. My daughter loves mini Boden too. Their customer service is so good and the clothes are comfy and last well.

Its not boden that makes people mumsy, its what items you choose and throw together.

I agree with Branleuse.

If you are stylish, you can wear anything and look good. Equally, some people wear designer clothes and look rubbish. You only have to look at a celebrity bash or a royal wedding for the proof.

I liked the style of Boden (too expensive though) from about age 32 to age 40, in what I call my post-baby mumsy fog!! Grin DS is 8.

Now 41 & its really not my kind of thing.

Good point, Branleuse.

I really like some of the stuff but I've never ordered as am probably too fat for it.
Whenever I show DH anything he always says it's really mumsy and I'm too young for it. I am 32. He thinks that about a lot of my clothes but I feel a bit lost.
I have three SIL's two are 30 and one is 28 and they all dress like my 13 yo DD in Hollister skinny joggers, Jack Wills hoodies, Ugg's etc. I would feel an idiot dressed like them and I think I would get a lot of eye rolls from DD.
Half of the time I feel I long to be 50 so I can wear mumsy stuff and not give a fuck.

Well I'm very nearly 57 and I prefer Coast and Whistles tbh. I have, in regular use, a rainy day raincoat, a fairisle cardigan, a cropped cashmere cardigan and 3 T shirts from Boden plus a maxi dress I'll sell on ebay soon as it is too big and a pair of trousers that are too small.

On the whole I think the dresses are frumpy but the knitwear and T shirts are OK if a particular style is just what you want. I can't imagine anyone under 30 thinking it was great, and I could see my mother (87) in some of the knitted dresses and tops as the detail to the neck on lots of the styles is very flattering to the older neck.

I always feel angry when I read posts about dh etc. not liking clothes. Tell them to fuck off and wear what YOU like.

I'm mid thirties. I've worn bits and pieces of Boden for about five years. Despise the summer stuff - far too mumsy - but they usually do a couple of decent dresses and some nice work clothes for autumn/winter.

I'm 42 and I've been wearing their stuff for about 8 years. All bought in sales and charity shops as I've never been able to afford £60 for a skirt.

Washes well and it's not slavishly linked to fashion - it has its own style which you either love or loathe.

I'm early 40s and it makes me look too frumpy. Just the wrong cut for me (although i got some shoes there last winter for work which are ok).
I buy most of my clothes from Cos, Whistles or Gap at the moment so it's not that I'm particularly edgy.

I know someone else though who's around 44 and she wears it, and it looks ok on her. She's a short size 8 though, whereas I'm tall size 12.

Early 40s and I used to wear their stuff sometimes. Haven't for quite a few years as (a) it's out of my budget these days, and (b) I realised I was dressing like my Mum!

Oh c'mon notso- why do you think the over 50s don't give a fuck about fashion?

I have more time and money now to take care of ME, and know what I like and what suits than I did in my 30s when I was sprogging and exhausted.

I'm 45 and am increasingly buying Fat Face and White Stuff as I prefer their skirts and they fit me better. I have some Boden dresses, recently bought one for weddings this year, I started buying it about 6 years ago.

I have worn boden for 10 years - I'm 35.

Agree with whoever said its how you wear it and not what you wear. I don't think I look frumpy - I try to look elegant although dont always manage.

I have 5 or so pieces in my wardrobe that are old boden I always get complimented on that wash brilliantly.

I hate joules!

I did apologise Missbopeep in my defence I didn't say over 50's didn't give a fuck about fashion.
I meant the over fifties I know seem to be able to wear what they want and not care so much what people think so much.

I really can't wait to be 50, I have been a parent my whole adult life. DH and I are looking at our 50's as our late teens and twenties!

Hmm who wears Boden?

Perhaps people who like the clothes they sell, or a particular item or whatever? Hmm

Not sure what the point of this thread is?

That's okay notso just your post was ambiguous Half of the time I feel I long to be 50 so I can wear mumsy stuff and not give a fuck.

The implication was 50= mumsy= not giving a fuck about what you wear ( rather than people's opinions.)

But all is forgiven :)

I must admit I wondered who wore their clothes a little while ago when I saw that the models looked in the early 30's age bracket but a lot of their clothes were very frumpy and came in generous sizes up to a 22 ( many with elastic waists) I did wonder if it was one of those scenarios where the real purchasers are larger ladies of advanced years but that Boden would never admit to it.

i haven't bought anything for me before but have ordered two things to try from the new AW line. some bits look aces. I am very hopeful!

I'm 33.

DD (5) and DS (2) wear tons of boden and have since they were babies.
