Help me find something to wear to my daughters christening!!

Hi can anyone help me?! It's my daughters christening next weekend and I don't have anything to wear. I've put on loads of weight since having her and none of my per pregnancy clothes fit Sad
I'm 5'4'' and currently in size 18/20. I was hoping to wear a nice maxi dress, but went and tried a few on today and they weren't flattering AT ALL.

Hate my upper arms so want them covered if possible, and not too expensive either!

Don't worry, MN will get you sorted Flowers

What's your coloring? Would you prefer plain or patterned? got any shoes or accessories you're wanting to use?

MrsLettuce · 30/05/2013 21:06

Oh yeah, budget would be handy too. Sorry.

Numberlock · 30/05/2013 21:08

Stay away from the maxi dresses. Keep it simple - black trousers, nice top, heels and new hair do and nails.

HenriettaPye · 30/05/2013 21:11

I'm pale with dark brown shoulder length hair. Wanted a maxi dress as means I wouldn't have the whole hassle of tanning my legs and if its long I wouldn't have to worry too much about shoes, as I can't walk in heels!! I'm hoping to spend no more than £40-£50.

Yeah, a hair appointment always does wonders. As much for confidence as for looks. Maybe a manicure too?

So you think black trousers then? My daughters godmother is thin and wearing a beautiful dress- I just don't want to look frumpy beside her! Sad

I repeat - stay away from the maxi dress.

Spend the money on hair do, nails, classic simple outfit, sexy heels.

Numberlock · 30/05/2013 21:19

Yes. Black trousers, go to town on the heels- deep red? Patent? Matching bag?

BunnyLebowski · 30/05/2013 21:21

Absolute no to the maxi given your height and shape. And my general dislike of maxis.

But also no to black trousers. It's a special day for you and your family. Not a day at the office.

Give us your budget? Colours you like? Best bits you like showing off?

We'll sort you Grin.

Smartiepants79 · 30/05/2013 21:21

What is your body shape?
Maxi dresses don't really suit smaller people, trust me I know!

Smartiepants79 · 30/05/2013 21:23

I love this and it comes in various. Colours and patterns.

Ok maxi dress is a big no-no then!! Black trousers and nice top it is- although i can't walk in heels Confused

Numberlock · 30/05/2013 21:23

Black trousers don't have to be work wear. Try cigarette or 7/8.

HenriettaPye · 30/05/2013 21:26

Oops xposts!

Wishful- the first dress is gorgeous- but wouldn't look so good with my thunder thighs!! Grin

£40-£50 is tight, what have you got in the line of scarf/cardy/shrug/blazer and shoes? Do you have ballet flats?

HenriettaPye · 30/05/2013 21:28

Smartie- I'm bigger uptop, always been around size 12 in trousers, and 16 in tops. Although since having baby I've found it impossible to get into shape and have put loads of weight on and tops need to be size 18-20 now, size 16 for bottoms ConfusedConfused

OP posts:
HenriettaPye · 30/05/2013 21:29

Yes have a few pairs of ballet flats Mrs. As for blazer etc, no I don't have much due to weight gain and I haven't bought anything as I'm hoping to lose it again!!

HenriettaPye · 30/05/2013 21:30

Love that wishful- love that it covers my arms and isn't too clingy

MrsLettuce · 30/05/2013 21:32

These are a very flattering shape indeed.

too pale?
too dark?
black based floral?
again with more colour
pretty pretty?

Wishfulmakeupping · 30/05/2013 21:32

If you're bigger on top a pepperberry dress might be the way to go
