If you saw someone with a Louis Vuitton bag ...

... and it was a fairly small bag, and the person was obviously not a millionaire, but just sort of pretty average, would you assume it was a fake?

I've wanted one all my life Blush, and have A PLAN. I'm having a HUGE wardrobe clearout and am going to put the money I get from getting rid of heaps of clobber and unworn shoes towards a Posh Bag (I've never had one), and have my heart set on LV, but DH says there's no point because people will just assume it's not real.

What d'you think? Are my girlish dreams all for naught?

I would think fake but then I've never been into designer stuff. Can't see the point when fakes are so realistic!

I would also assume fake but then I wouldn't be able to spot the difference.

I suppose it's down to why you want it. If it would make you feel good - does it really matter what others think?

Having lived in Dubai for many years Lv was the bag of choice. However there is a very well know area which sells excellent copies, so everyone had them. Hard to tell the real from the fake in the end.

I personally wouldn't have one and I'm totally obsessed with bags. If I had to choose one it would be one without all the logos Smile

What if you saw someone really obviously well-to-do with one? Would you still think it was a rip-off?

Same for the Chanel 2.55 - I mean, someone somewhere must be buying the real ones!

Once it is no longer brand new and the leather handles are darkened then I would know ot was real. I think fake LVs are very obvious.

Ha! Are you me? I have fallen in love with a Gucci bag and have sworn to buy no clothes for a full year in order to afford one Grin I fell head over heels in Selfridges on Sunday and it will be mine in (gulp) 11 months 28 days - ish...

I say go for it! Doesn't actually matter what anyone else thinks, if it will make you feel great then go for it.

Lemon I'm with you. I think a real LV (from the ones I've seen) has a really lovely patina, and the fakes look overly-bright and plasticky.

I'd have no idea. I'd only know it was LV if it had the logo plastered all over. Then if think it tacky.

I have a Chanel 2.55 (real one) I purposely chose it without the two c's on the front. I think mine was a design from her personal collection.

The way I see it is this, I know it's real and people can think what they like. Anybody in the know will know mines real.

I would get a slighly unusual one, not the same as all the other ones.

I did the same for a Mulberry bag a few years ago and now everyone has a fake one! But I love mine.

Oh wowzers, Barbie - I'm GREEN. Ideally I'd get a 2.55 but even vintage there is not a HOPE of my affording one.

The LV I have my eye on is this - I love a preppy satchel you see, so this seems like the perfect combination of bluestocking and hedonist, which is me all over Hmm

Depends what you look like, what you wear and where you live.

If you are a fairly stylish euro/Russian-looking person in London, I'd think real.

Anything else, I'd think fake. And I'm also not a fan, sorry. I'd rather spend a tenth of the price on a lovely bag from J Crew or similar and spent the rest on an unforgettable holiday. Memories are not made of LV monogram bags!

I have a couple of Mulberry bags and love them more because I know they are rea. If you love LV it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks

I know someone who is rather well to do but she buys replica bags and will laugh and tell you if you admire one of her bags thinking its real!

Ioffer has loads, some are fairly convincing.

Ivana - fab name, by the way! - I look like a Pre-Raphaelite painting run slightly to seed crossed with a 1950s governess. ie, the last person in the world you'd think would want a LV bag, either real or fake Grin

I like the bag! And really, who cares what anyone thinks Confused it's a bit like men who think women wear short skirts to attract attention - no, they aren't really thinking like that, they just liked the skirt. Iyswim, I've confused myself with that. I have a Celine bag, a Botkier and a Miu Miu, all bought because I liked them not to show off. I love that they're premium, that they look and feel beautiful, but couldn't care less what anyone else thinks.

If you're on the tube, fake. Getting out of a black cab, real. If you have your own car, obviously you'd have people to carry your bags :-)
