Looking for a stylish, non-mumsy rainproof jacket with hood...does one exist?!

Hi all, title's self-explanatory really - I'd always on the look-out for nice practical, hooded jackets that don't make me look too much like my mum on holiday (God love her).

Then someone on a thread re new baby advice the other day noted that they would advise that all new mums purchase a rainproof jacket (that they don't acutally hate wearing) with a hood, as it's nigh on impossible to push a buggy and manouvre a brolly whilst also doing the 300 other things you were attempting.

I have an ancient and faithful navy blue lightweight Regatta jacket (TJ Hughes bargain) but it's not in any way stylish. The closest I've come so far is the Rosey jacket from Fat Face - not ideal but fairly inoffensive (sorry can't link to it from phone).

Any help gratefully received!

It's extremely warm so only suitable for winter but I bought a merrell haven coat last winter and its great.

jumperooo · 28/05/2013 14:05

This one, and now a bargain in the sale www.natureshop.co.uk/Product/3945/womens-outer-layer/Merrell/Haven-II

I have just bought the Rosey jacket from Fat Face - lightweight and rainproof. Comes in pink, navy or pale green and I'm very happy with it!

lurcherlover · 28/05/2013 14:08

Sorry, should have read your op properly - see you've seen it already! Give it a go, it's good.

SayMama · 28/05/2013 15:03

I don't know if you'd consider it stylish or not but I bought this jacket from Primark just as an 'emergency' when I was on holiday and it started to heavy rain but I absolutely love it! And they had other patterns, you don't have to have ducks Grin but it pulls in at the waist and flares out at the bottom, plus has straps to roll up the sleeves, and the all important hood. Plus it only cost £9 (someone on ebay is obviously out to make a fair profit Hmm )

Laquila · 30/05/2013 12:17

Thanks very much all. SayMama I do like that it was after something a bit more substantial - more of a proper jacket than an emergency cagoule type thing, if you know what I mean! Bloody hell I haven't seen "cagoule" written down in years - reminds me of Brownie pack holiday!

Lurcher I think I'll go and try the Rosey this weekend - I have some FF vouchers too, which is always nice :)

I've got a gorgeous s.o.s. jensen, advised by mn'ers. From tkmaxx, about £40 (bought it last autumn)
Massive hood, long, almost down to my knees, lined, breathable. Keeps me bone dry and looks fab.

5madthings · 30/05/2013 12:29

I just got one from fatface, I tried the rosey on and didn't like it so got another one, hang on will get a link...

PattieOfurniture · 30/05/2013 12:29

SOS jensen website here

PelvicFloorClenchReminder · 30/05/2013 12:30

Something from Seasalt?

5madthings · 30/05/2013 12:30

m.fatface.com/fatface/product/detail.do?categoryId=2574940&itemId=42159

I got one of these and its great.

I also got the linen jacket the have at the moment, not waterproof but nice for dry days :)

Jojay · 30/05/2013 12:37

I was about to recommend Seasalt too, but I see that PelvicFloor has beaten me to it!

Snowgirl1 · 30/05/2013 12:41

I'm considering a rainproof trench which has a hood from Rainfrog

roundtower · 30/05/2013 12:41

5madthings and lurcherlover I was looking at the Rosey jacket online yesterday. I am an appley size 18 and short. What is the sizing like. What are the colours like in person?

DewDr0p · 30/05/2013 12:43

5madthings I really like the look of that one - is it quite fitted? I need fitted! (Norks)

5madthings · 30/05/2013 12:48

Sizing is generous, I got a 12 and in have space for a jumper etc under and I have large boobs 32e.

It is fitted and looks nice, I need fitted as well as I am short, hourglass shape and some coats just make me look nice.

O didn't like the buttons on the rosey when I tried it on it made my voovs look ginormous and just did nothing for my shape, the Winnie looks mucxh nicer on :)

Col ours as since, it comes in three diff col our schemes, I got the Greg with the pinky/orange lining and a very happy with it and have had people ask where I got it and been compli, emtred on it :)

5madthings · 30/05/2013 12:49

My boobs not voovs...

DewDr0p · 30/05/2013 12:55

Thanks! Sounds good, might have to get to a shop for a try on.

cardamomginger · 30/05/2013 13:17

I have a Didrikson Thelma which I bought online from CCW Clothing:

Mine's in aubergine and it's fab.

BeginnerSAHM · 30/05/2013 13:44

Would anybody rate barbours? After something similar and house of fraser has up to 40% off at the moment...

i totally agree about needing a waterproof jacket for trips out with the buggy especially if the buggy is the only place your baby will nap and you end up wandering the streets for hours on end

why most women's jackets don't have hoods I will never understand.

for cold wet weather I have a lands end jacket and it's fab this one I think. I originally ordered it in purple and the colour was quite bright and it did look like something my mum would wear, so I swapped it for the black.

it is really warm so i'm after something for slightly warmer weather now. I'll check out the primark one mentioned above next time I'm in town cos its the only my budget will stretch to

Laquila · 30/05/2013 16:52

Gaaaah have typed this four times and lost it each time! OK, briefly...some great suggestions here - thanks all

Pelvic I love the short duffle-style Seasalt ones, also the raincoat (WHY so hard to find a trench coat with a good?!)

5mad I'll try that other Fat Face one too, thanks!

Pattie I'd not heard of SOS Jensen but their designer looks v glamorous - good sign!

Doing this in stages to limit rut ration when I lose it again...

Cardamom I like that one, and also Didrikson Thelma sounds like an interesting Scandinavian Mills and Boon hero

Snowgirl1 after I wrote that about trenchcoats I clicked on your link!! Really like the beige or brown one - pls post a review if you buy it?!
