Would I regret getting a fringe? (hair type)

I really want to get a full, blunt fringe. I've never had a fringe (well, not since I was about 7). The rest of my hairstyle I would keep the same (mid length/long, one length.)

The problem is my hair type. It's very fine, and especially wispy and prone to breaking around my hairline. It's also naturally wavy/curly (I straighten it) & if I get caught in the rain it turns into a frizzy mess.

Does anybody with this kind of hair manage a fringe?

Good question - I was wondering whether to dare to try a fringe, and have very similar hair to you...

I never cut fringes any more because I don't like the way my face looks, but I do have similar hair.

I had a few techniques, and it did go pretty straight and STAY put.

Wash and blow dry as usual (straighten with irons if need be). Leave fringe section till last: tie it in middle with a little band to keep it secure.

Then i wet and blowdried the fringe by using a round brush and aiming heat downwards to calm it flat. It won't get it completely straight because the roundness of brush will make it bouncy, but after drying you then very lightly flick irons through it - avoid making it poker straight at the tips.

To top it off, I often wore a fat alice band around my head flattening fringe down under it for 5 mins. I mean one of those wide fabric ones so it looks like a rambo bandana or something IYSWIM?

Take off and enjoy nice sleek fringe, which will have been made even and beaten into submission by the bandana.

If wayward next day, just redo, only takes 5 mins to run a tad of shampoo/cond through fringe and do it again.

Thin hair here, did the fringe bit about a year ago, it's almost grown out now.

Don't do it.

I wouldn't. You will spend ages trying to style it every day and it will drive you nuts.

The thing is, if you get caught in the rain (very likely in this country Grin ) It looks awful! At least, mine does, and I have fine, wavy hair.

It's also quite high maintenance to style.

But if you're really set, this website is very good for getting an idea of what you would look like plus it's free!

Just don't do it yourself... I posted about a week ago after letting DH do mine and it's still awful Sad

Don't do it. I have similar hair and ONCE had a fringe cut in. When DH came home he nearly walked out again Grin

Honestly. don't. Buy some orofluido serum instead. Great for frizzy hair.

how high is your forehead?

how far back will you take the hair?

me- no spam, BUT to get the look have to take quite alot into the fringe to create the heavy fringe iyswim, as my hair is fine also.

last time i had a fringe i said, pirate remember it's a pita, don't do it again.

6 weeks ago i largely ignored this advice whilst cutting a fringe in, there was this little voice sayin 'you'll regret it'.

Voila- I did!! arghhhhhhhhhh. Just doesn't suit me like it did. I look at women with one and can't understand why it doesn't suit me!! cows lick too so it parts every so nicely!!

piratecat I know the cows lick. I love the look of me having a fringe but is it so much hassle for such a small amount of hair. If the weather is dry and I walk around slowly my fringe looks lovely. But the slightest bit of moisture in the air turns it frizzy and if I break into a proper sweat I end up with these squirly tentacle bits that shoot out at the temples.

Fringes =good idea but PITA.

I have one and love it. It does go crap in the rain/wind, but then all my hair goes crap at the slightest hint of moisture, so the crap fringe is neither here nor there at that point Grin

I've been with fringe and without fringe over and over again over the years, and have come to the conclusion I look younger with one.

I don't have a high forehead, I do have a long face though - playing around with the styles I definitely think that a fringe would suit - as long as it behaved itself!

DON'T DO IT!

I got a fringe 7 weeks ago (yes, I am counting). I'm growing it out. It's a mess. I have fine hair too and it's impossible to have a full blunt fringe with fine hair. Now it's a bloody mess, wispy, always in my eyes but not quite long enough to work as a side fringe yet.

Just don't do it.

The other issue I have with my hair at the moment is the condition of it around the front and sides. Despite not having had it shaped around my face for years, and trying to grow it all one length, it is far shorter. (my hair is long but I can't even tie those bits back.) I assume it is damage from straightening (I straighten around the front far more than I do my whole head as I usually wear it in a ponytail.)

So it kind of looks like a fringe that I'm growing out anyway...I wonder whether getting an actual fringe cut in would improve the condition of it, get rid of all the fragile ends? And even if I don't end up liking the fringe, it might ultimately be a good thing to do?

I have to be honest and say that on fine wispy hair fringes just don't work. They tend to look a wee bit bitty and spindly.

And I'm a fringe obsessive.

I don't think it would look too wispy if it was taken quite far back (basically as far back as you can go without looking silly) & styled properly - my main worry is what would happen to it in the rain. And I would need to avoid putting the straighteners on it too much I think.

Fine hair just can't rock the fringe you want. You'd have to have it taken from halfway back on your head to get the look you're after.

If you're desperate to try one out, just buy one of these instead! Grin

I bought one of those clip-in fringes Blush as I would really really like a fringe but didn't want to commit as my hair is a) extremely curly; and b) I have a cowlick which means it wouldn't lay flat.

I look good with a fringe, but still haven't taken the plunge!

Don't do it. And stop straightening your hair, sounds like you are ruining it. Is it coloured as well? Constant breaking is not good.

Get some decent (kerastase or Redken) quality shampoo and conditioner and try to improve your hair strength

STOP STRAIGHTENING IT!

Fringes only work well on straight hair. Healthy, not thick but plenty of it straight hair.

Yeah I get blonde highlights. I know what you're saying about straightening, but if I don't straighten it looks awful - not nice curly but a frizzy, wavy mess.
