Second hand would you?

I'm going to a friends wedding in June and fancied a new 'posh' dress to wear. I could probably afford to pay up to £120, but it seems a bit daft to pay that much for something I might only wear twice. So I went on ebay and bought an Austin Reed silk dress listed as excellent used condition.

Well it arrived and its gorgeous, fab quality and looks brand new. Best of all it only cost £18.15 including postage! However when I told a friend that it was second hand she was horrified as if I might catch something from it. So what do you think would you wear second hand clothes from someone you don't know?

I buy second hand all the time, but I tend to be vague about it when asked in rl because I just can't be doing with idiotic reactions such as described. Or sometimes you get people who feel sorry for you because you didn't buy something which is total bollocks of course but such people are aboutHmm.

I would rather save my money where possible and have more to show for it and there are some great bargains to be found which adds to the joy of having itSmile

One word of caution with second hand though: even if it looks immaculate or even new, I would always have it thoroughly cleaned before you put it in your wardrobe. Moths can easily be transferred and they are on the rise due to people buying second hand clothing.

Last few weeks I have got: pair of walking boots (£7.50), pair of trainers (£3.00), fake suade and fur lined jacket, (£4.25) 2 pairs linen trousers (99p each), long sleeved tee shirt (99p), the only things I wouldn't buy are pre worn undies !! I have a friend who wont even borrow books from me as they come from a charity shop and she has said that her husband wont allow anything second hand in the house !!!!

I'm mother of the groom later this year and my whole outfit has cost less than £50 thanks to ebay:

black satin shoes with label still on £5.99 inc postage
beautiful fitted coast dress £13.52 inc postage
big, fancy john lewis hat inc hatbox £8.50 inc postage

oh, and a bag that matches my shoes perfectly £6 from primark.

The whole outfit put together looks lovely and only DH and I (plus you lovely mnetters) know what it cost.

I f I didn`t I would be running around in my underwear because 99% of my clothes comes from charity shops. Today I am wearing black and white stripe Autograph t shirt £3 which is lovely quality and I have on 2nd hand black velvet wide legged trousers for the gym. I like good makes but cannot really afford them but do brilliantly with my charity shop finds.

Absolutely !
I used to be a real clothes snob but following a downturn with my finances I ventured in to my local charity shops. What a revelation ! I have had some fantastic designer finds in addition to some nice homeware finds .I would urge anyone to give it a try .

It never occurred to me to buy second hand until I realised the stuff i was selling on eBay was good enough quailty that I would be happy to receive myself.
My maternity jeans and t shirt I'm wearing today were 99p each Smile
