Amber do you recall what the sizes were like for the Jimmy Jimmies, would like to order a pair and am wondering whether to order normal size?

shopafrolic · 22/05/2013 22:21

hi Portia mine are true to size if that helps?

Portia4 · 22/05/2013 23:13

Thanks Shop.

BrandyAlexander · 23/05/2013 08:43

Good morning all! It's cold! I am regretting my outfit choice. LkB dress no jacket and thin M&S mac. . Wind is biting so dress warmly!

MarshaBrady · 23/05/2013 08:49

Morning everyone. Was shocked last night too.

It is freezing.

Have taken ds2 for a hot chocolate at his request pre-nursery. Love Thursdays.

BrandyAlexander · 23/05/2013 08:58

There is an interesting thread on aibu about where you shop, can't seem to copy my response using app but made me realise I shop in a wider variety of places over the last 6 to 9 months. Pre joining the thread I had began to look more widely and added lk Bennett, Austin reed, damsel in a dress for work clothes. For casual I had expanded out to kaliko, phase 8, desigual and John Lewis. Being on this thread has inspired me to get dvf and helmut Lang at the expensive end, go back to warehouse for first time on years and not freak out about spending £150 on trousers from Lauren by Ralph Lauren. Wondered what other posters go to shops are (I had about 20!)?

AmberNectarine · 23/05/2013 09:56

I find them on the large side portia would go down a size!

MarshaBrady · 23/05/2013 09:59

Novice that's great, Helmut Lang really suits you. I mostly do online these days and Liberty. But big fan of the outnet and the discounts. Has changed my view on what I will spend on stuff.

MarshaBrady · 23/05/2013 12:19

J Crew pop up store this weekend. I can't make it, will wait til November when it opens in Regent St.

santamarianovella · 23/05/2013 12:40

its a bit far for me,will probably wait for the opening too.

MarshaBrady · 23/05/2013 12:43

Think it could be a bit jam packed too. I'm not very good with pressurised shopping environments.

santamarianovella · 23/05/2013 12:56

me too marsha, cant shop when its crowded. i hope someone goes and report back to us!

LinusDKD · 23/05/2013 13:09

Like Marsha I shop mostly online and usually at discounted prices. Thanks to this thread I discovered Me & Em, Shopbop, Atterley Road, Asos and many, many more shops Wink

I have just remembered I have dinner with some girlfriends this evening (first time since DS was born nearly 2.5 years ago!) and I have no idea what to wear. It is quite a casual affair but as I live in skinnies all day I would like to wear something different.

Am thinking of my People Tree dresses but can't go bare legged as it is freezing here and opaques seem so wintry.

Maybe I'll stick to skinnies but take a leaf out of Novice's book and bling it up a bit a lot

QueenCadbury · 23/05/2013 13:19

I still shop at pretty much the same places as I did before this thread but I do a lot of browsing online at the places like atterly road, me&em etc tht i came across through you lot. I'm not very good at ordering online though unless I know it's going to fit. I find the whole returns thing a faff. So my usual shopping haunts are gap, oasis, mango and Dorothy Perkins. I have stopped shopping at white stuff though Grin.

Was very pleased today as I got complimented on the colours I'm wearing (navy/white striped tee) and cobalt cardi.

linus it's a tricky one as I wear jeans daily too and like to look different when going out. If your weather is p'ing it down as much as it is here then go for a dress and opaques.

I've just taken delivery of a £400 quid ocado shop and so am sitting here hope it will put itself away Grin.

santamarianovella · 23/05/2013 13:50

queen,i still shop at my usual hunts too,and thanks to this thread i discovered(seasons, atterly road and lots more)so i have alot of browsing before i take the plunge, but for big purchases like bags, coats ..etc, i like to buy from store.
linus,i was in a smilar place two weeks ago, ended up wearing an equipment shirt with j brand aidan boyfriend and leather jacket, and reallllly high heels,i did bling it too!

MarshaBrady · 23/05/2013 13:55

Linus it is tricky as it feels unfair to put on opaques in late May. I think I need some going out non-dress type thing. Not sure what.

QueenC £400! Do you have a party? Grin

QueenCadbury · 23/05/2013 14:17

marsha we have friends staying over the bh weekend so including us there'll be 6 adults and 8 kids. So lots of wine and prosecco! In theory the food should last me all half term too so that I don't have to drag the dc shopping Hmm. Then for the following 2 weekends we have parties too so I fear this is going to be a very expensive month!

Feeling fat and lardy and although I've avoided booze all week I've made up for it with chocolate. Dh is at some swanky work thing tonight so I've promised myself that I will do the shred. Wish me luck Grin.

foxysocks · 23/05/2013 14:25

£400 queenc! I'm cheap, I try to spend exactly £40 on ocado. getting my ££ worth out of 'em.

I am definitely more comfortable with online shopping, I find walking round shops much more of a faff than returns. esp outnet/matches who collect. helps that the PO is two mins from my house.

I got to open the NaP package last night to try on and it is indeed the J Crew jacket. DH got the XS but I really want to try the size down so have ordered that too this morning. I want to wear over tees/maxi dresses with a neat fit and the 8 is a tiny bit big across my back. the 6 might be too small, but will give it a shot.

replacement yellow shoes also coming tomorrow so matches and NAP delivery due, that should alleviate the pain of the inset day Grin

had a browse on shopbop but nothing I want or need.

still stalking a few things on the outnet, and hoping I get a pre-sale invite from matches, then my SS wardrobe is looking super healthy Smile.

MrsRadicchio · 23/05/2013 15:41

Hello all, lots of interesting chat which I am behind on as usual! On phone too so hard to reference.

Shop and Marsha, sorry to hear about work plans falling through. Childcare is so hard and seems to get harder, not easier the older they get. I really want to go back to work but not sure how realistic it is. my ideal scenario would be for dh to also reduce his hours, but that is still such a rare thing and not v accepted.

I like this thread too for being friendly and non-judgemental. Good to get shopping ideas, I've learnt quite a bit from s and b, in particular keeping an eye on man made fibre.

Having said that, I've made quite a few mindless purchases this year and am currently trying a little breather from shopping while I streamline my wardrobe and wait for the sales

I like on line shopping, I quite like solitary shopping rather than with friends or, heaven forbid, dh. I like a browse through charity shops though, but the high st less and less. I like nap (sales), my wardrobe (ditto), outnet, asos, yoox despite awful photos. Love browsing eBay but trying to only buy if I've tried it on before or you can do returns.

Such an odd day weather wise. Been in most of the day as a result. The dc seem ok with it, I am the one going stir crazy!

Decameron · 23/05/2013 15:48

Trying to cut down on online time so a quick hello. I definitely have shopaholic tendencies (always had!), also spend far too much time browsing. Have deleted one of my Facebook accounts and have spent evenings this week reading and catching up on DVDs instead. Do find Pinterest very useful though as I try to consider purchases more carefully.

Glad you enjoyed meeting up.

The yellow shoes look lovely, Foxy.

Thanks Shop for the alert about the pink Gigis. I got a presale code from Matches so have just ordered them. May go back for more over the weekend, it's very tempting.

Shop and Marsha, sorry about the nanny/job. I have had to turn down a few contracts and I feel hate doing it.

Drywhiteplease · 23/05/2013 16:36

MrsR I'm like you re shopping. My shopping falls into 4 categories:

1."mooching", social shopping with friends ( always involves coffee, often win. Grin ..I'm doing this on Saturday.the best...I always have a birthday mooch.)

  1. Online searching ...and ordering. V effective and efficient.
  2. "Turbo"shopping......which I can only do alone. This is when I am looking for a particular item ( currently a mid range priced, v plain black suede clutch) and I race around every shop without browsing, at the mo I head straight for accessories, do a quick power scan, and move on to next.
4.shopping for DH.....once every 3 years, I get grumpy, he gets grumpy, generally only lasts 2 shops.

There is a new category emerging that may break even a seasoned shopper like me....teenage shopping..............horrid,horrid,horrid.Grin.........need a lot of Wine for this one!!!!

Drywhiteplease · 23/05/2013 16:37

Oh and today I defied the winter conditions and was a vision in mint and beige.........lovely........until the hail started then I felt a prat Sad

OneLittleLady · 23/05/2013 16:51

I got caught in the hail stones as well dry my ballet pumps were not up to the job, I knew I should have worn my DMs!

Parisisalwaysagoodidea · 23/05/2013 17:03

Hello All

I collected this jacket from Dorothy Perkins today and it's actually pretty fab. It looks very minimalist, almost futuristic and goes with everything in my wardrobe. I know, it's 100% polyester but it can go in the washing machine, essential for a white jacket as my white blazer costs me a fortune at the dry cleaners!

DH and I didn't make it out of the pub to see the Great Gatsby on friday but I'm going to see it tomorrow with my 3 closest friends, with dinner and cocktails after. What to wear though?

I'm having a meh feeling about my wardrobe at the moment. I think it's because of the crap weather. I'm boooored of my winter stuff and my new stuff doesn't look right combined with the winter stuff. I don't want to wear a lovely summery outfit and then have to add tights, boots and a wool coat. Nothing seems to look quite right at the moment

Sorry for the woe is me, I'll read through the thread now!
