I've let DH cut my fringe <cries a lot>

Just that really Sad

Decided my 'side swept' fringe was rubbish (it was) so I watched some YouTube tutorials and had a go at a blunt fringe. It looked ok at first, a teeny bit too long because I was doing it grafually. Then DH pipes up that he'll help me.

Honest to God, he looked me deep in the eyes and said 'trust me, it'll be fine'

It's not fine. It's too short. It's very wonky. I'm really upset. He's upset because I'm upset.

I know you're going to tell me to go to the hairdressers but the reason I didn't go in the first place is I hate to! The last time I went to one (about 8 weeks ago) she actually sneered at me because I said I don't have much money and tend to do it myself Sad

Where abouts roughly are you as sure someone on here could recommend a good hairdresser. I know great ones in Bath and Northampton who are lovely and would never sneer at anyone.

Is is blow-dried at the moment? If so, wash it again and see how it falls as you dry it. You might be able to side-sweep it a bit? Try playing about with some bobby pins or clips, either clipping it to one side, or curling it straight over backwards so you have got a little retro type roll IYSWIM.

I wouldn't go to the hairdresser anyway if the problem was a too-short fringe, they have to be bloody good and someone you already trust to not just make matters worse. Best thing is to find a way to live with it just for a few days - within a week it'll have grown a crucial few mm again.

I'd recommend my hairdresser. She only charges £18 for a wash, cut and dry

MadBusLady Will it honestly just be a week or so? I've got visions of being like this for months! It's around my eyebrows (some parts above and some just below Hmm ) I've pinned it back into a quiff at the moment.

Honestly I could cry.

It will grow quickly but you need to find a good hairdresser who you trust. I approach people who've got good hair and ask where they get it cut but appreciate not everyone is ready to do that.

That doesn't sound too short at all! Everyone's hair grows differently of course, but I usually blub a bit on the day I have mine cut (because every bugger in the world cuts too much off) and then within a week I look perfectly normal again.

Keep it pinned back and have another play with it later. It probably just needs a bit of getting used to.

You poor thing, honestly the difference between a 'too short fringe' and a perfect one is just a few millimeters. Play around with it, use some clips, or those elastic hairbands, and this time next week it will be fine.

Don't stress. IT WILL GROW OUT. Let me tell you a tale, I foolishly went to Supercuts in December. My fringe was hacked at and the silly bint even cut my eyelid. My fringe looked like my two year old cut it. I cried lots but it grew back. I discovered fab new ways of pinning it back, lots of twists and pretty grips.

Yes, a bargain. I used to go to Toni and guy, but when it went above 40.00 I found somewhere else.

Sweep your fringe to the side, buy some pretty slides or clips, in a couple of weeks it'll looks loads better.

Just don't let your dh near your hair again with scissorsGrin

If you ever decide to pick up the scissors again my hairdresser friend told me to twist the fringe then cut up the way with the scissors, not across. I do it all the time as I hate the hairdressers so only go about three times a year.

Most hairdressers do one free fringe upkeep inbetween cuts. Round here they do anyway.

Sorry to hear of your experience, I quite often get my DH to trim my hair although last couple of times he hasn't been so great.. but luckily I don't have a fringe so not too bad. Decided to treat myself to the hairdressers last time but as usual she cut way too much off.......why do they do that when you tell them exactly how much you want off!

That Crea Clip looks brilliant think I may invest in one of those!

I have a huge blunt fringe and it gets trimmed every 3 weeks without fail, or I can't see.

Give it a few days and it won't seem as bad, honestly it will grow that quick.

Don't cry. Don't let your dh near you again with scissors either.

Give it a week of being clipped back then have a wander round your local hairdressers, even just look through the windows and look for a friendly face.

I have a fringe that I trimmed myself 2 weeks ago. I did OK, for a change, but it needs doing again now. Fringes grow surprisingly quickly, by this time next week it will be the right length.

I feel your pain about the hairdressers. I had one who I was happyish with, but then she took on a younger girl about a year ago. I let her do my hair and she was brilliant, she changed the colour of my highlights because she felt a slightly different colour would suit me better, she cut it slightly differently and it was easier to do, it was just fab. She has just left to have a baby, her replacement is crap.Sad. They have another salon so I am going to try the person who does my DC's hair but I am really nervous about going so keep putting off making the appointment!

Im in Newcastle and my local salon are cheap and wonderful! She used to be based in the city centre but wanted a better work / life balance so now has a smaller salon closer to home. I can pm you details if you like? I've just checked their fb page and a cut and blow dry is £17.95!

There are loads of good hairdressers in Newcastle but I never have childfree time to visit them anymore so I use a mobile hairdresser (she's young and used to work in a city centre salon so not a touch of the old lady about her). It's £17 for a cut and dry (I wash my own hair for her coming)

My Dad this to my Mum. She almost forgiven him now, 45 years later Grin

I cut my own fringe and hair. It's a lot easier doing it to yourself than someone else.

I butchered my own fringe a couple of weeks ago. Way too short. It looks fine now - they really do grow out quickly! Chin up!

In future, should anyone need to cut their fringe, do it in sections diagonally up the way, so it's layered, then it doesn't look as wonky if it goes wrong.

Thank you for all the replies! I washed it again this morning and it doesn't look quite as bad. But I need honest opinions! I've uploaded a picture, please tell me how awful it is! I know it's still wonky, but can I get away without pinning it?
