DH says these shoes are "effin' awful..." Are they ?

I very rarely get dressed up, live in jeans and tshirts /cardies and usually wear trainers, Converse or boots. I was looking for a casual flat shoe that wasn't too "mumsy" and that would go with the clothes I normally wear. Spotted these today in Schuh, asked DH his opinion and he nearly threw up on the spot. Are they really that bad....Fed up wearing trainers...don't know if I'm getting a bit old for them. I'm 38 btw...

OP I love the first pair, the black ones with buttons. I think they are the only pair linked to on this thread that I would actually wear

ilovexmastime · 04/05/2013 16:08

Out of all the shoes linked to on this thread so far, I actually like the first pair best. The Topshop ones almost made me barf! And the M&S and Clarks ones were right up my mum's street (and she's 68...).

IThinkOfHappyWhenIThinkOfYou · 04/05/2013 16:10

I don't think they are that bad but I think your DHs are awful and horribly dated and a bit mumsy.

ilovexmastime · 04/05/2013 16:10

Whoops, forgot to update the page before posting so will now go back and check out the other links.

ilovexmastime · 04/05/2013 16:12

I like Akiss's choice best...

HoneyStAngelo · 04/05/2013 16:12

If you want to be more trendy then get a pair of Toms as they are all the rage with the youngsters!

AKissIsNotAContract · 04/05/2013 16:15

Fanjo, get your first pair, they aren't mumsy. Most of the other links on this thread are for the elderly. Is your DH really a bastion of style?

Fanjounchained · 04/05/2013 16:17

I have failed to find any flat shoes that I like other than ballet flats, Converse or trainers (Adidas, Puma or Onitsuka Tiger - all over £40). Sorry. I FAIL.

SquirtedPerfumeUpNoseInBoots · 04/05/2013 16:20

Toms? Slippers more like.

Fanjo, I quite liked your first ones.

shebangsthedrum · 04/05/2013 16:30

I luffs Toms to bits at the mo I have the black sparkly ones. I am 36 and many of my friends have them too. They are ethical clothing too.

JazzDalek · 04/05/2013 16:51

I was going to say Toms too. Just got a pair and they're brilliant. I thought they were a bit over-priced, but I found mine on Amazon for £20ish.

They're really comfy, lightweight, breathable, nice leather inner and cushioned sole PLUS they make my feet look small and dainty (which they aren't).

I have in the past thought they resembled slippers too, but decided to try them anyway after reading so many glowing reviews, and now I am converted Grin

aladdinsane · 04/05/2013 17:40

I love both

ilovexmastime · 04/05/2013 18:42

I like the toms natural linen and the new look ones.
I struggle with shoes too, I tend to wear boots in winter and flip flops in summer, with my converse or trainers being worn occasionally. A few years ago I gave in and bought some ballet pumps, and although I do now really like them, I couldn't wear them all day, they shred my heels.
I'm finding this thread very useful, thanks OP!

Chandelierforagirl · 04/05/2013 19:01

Wear what you like? What you're happy in?

StatisticallyChallenged · 04/05/2013 19:49

I think your first pair are fine - I wear dresses all the time and struggle with flatter shoes (for actually walking around - heels at work, events etc) and wear fairly similar ones.

lovesmileandlaugh · 04/05/2013 20:21

I usually wear converse but I got these for Christmas, which I really like.
Red or Dead Jade (sorry don't know how to link)
