Can we have a summer maxi dress thread please?

I need a few for a holiday.

I am looking for the really long ones (am 5'11, so this may be a challenge! I like floaty, flowy ones rather than those scary bodycon ones. Preferably patterned or with a print. Also, I'd like some dresses I can wear with a little cardi and nice sandals for a city look, rather than slobbing by the pool.

Anyone got any recommendations?

I'm going to watch this thread as I'm the same height and after just the same thing! Not much help sorry.

toffeelolly · 25/04/2013 18:01

Asda have some lovely maxi dresses, have seen a few i like , and theirs seem pretty longWink

elfycat · 25/04/2013 18:09

Just bought this from fat face and I'm in love.

It looks really good in a size 16 on a pear shape. The pattern hides some ofthe lumpy shapes around my hips. It looks good on the model who is probably taller and slimmer than me Wink

elfycat · 25/04/2013 18:11

(and I know ff can be a bit pricy but I find their clothes wash and wear well so I hope it's going to stand up to being worn non-stop this summer)

((if you know a student you could drag them along and use their student card for 10% off - If you shop in Suffolk I'll meet you there with mine, and buy the skirt in the same fabric))

Izzybuzzybuzzybees · 25/04/2013 18:12

Try wallis believe it or not!

foxysocks · 25/04/2013 18:13

i'm 5'9 and have two maxis - one is from hush, the other is by velvet . latter was more expensive but worth it, I wear it LOADS when it's warm.

Poodlehorse · 25/04/2013 18:15

oh yes please a maxi dress thread would be ever so handy. I did see a nice multi-coloured one in Sainsbury's the other day but didn't have time to have a proper nosey. I got a nice one from New Look but it was only online and it seems to have vanished. Had to put the other one I ordered back because of the ridiculous boobcups that would never have held mine in. I am only 5'5" though.

Poodlehorse · 25/04/2013 18:17

loving the fat face one btw. Have been eyeing it up for a week or two now.

moresnow I'm feeding too and some still work if they have a crossover at the top boob can be popped out :-)

landofsoapandglory · 25/04/2013 20:49

I can't make up my mind about this one from Dorothy Perkins. I can imagine it would like great on an evening out on my holiday in Majorca, not so much for a trip to Tesco! Might be useful for breastfeeding.

I like
this style to wear with a denim jacket on a cooler day.

landofsoapandglory · 25/04/2013 20:54

this one might be good for bf in, they do it in pink too.

castlesintheair · 25/04/2013 21:23

I just bought 2 from New Look. One is really long (I am 5'8"), it pools around the ground with no shoes on.

Leather · 25/04/2013 23:44

landofsoapandglory I tried on that first knot fronted dress you linked to from Dorothy Perkins, it is sooooo low cut it's ridiculous! I may as well have just been topless! And I'm not short in the body either, I thought the proportions of it were just all wrong somehow.
I just bought this from Gap, it's really lovely soft drapey jersey and very flattering.

LeoandBoosmum · 26/04/2013 01:12

I love this too expensive one from Jigsaw Shock

LeoandBoosmum · 26/04/2013 01:15

You know when a poster writes 'this' and it's highlighted and you click on it to go to the link, how do I do that? Thanks Smile

MrsJaqenHgar · 26/04/2013 02:01

Haven't checked their range this year but in my experience, Oasis maxis are very long - too long for my short arse 5'4", even with high wedge heels on.

jumpinghoops · 26/04/2013 02:22

LeoandBoosmum- you type link(space)this.

jumpinghoops · 26/04/2013 02:24

Gah, that didn't work. You type:

2 x open square brackets,insert link, space,this, 2x close square brackets.

knitknack · 26/04/2013 07:03

Landofsoapandglory - that exact dress is sitting in its package waiting for me to try it on! It looks lovely but I've had late nights tv work (parents Eve's and such) so have been too tired to try it!

OP I'm 5'10" and the maxis that I have from Great Plains are almost too long - they'd be perfect for you!

The shapes they do are great too - I need a waist on mine else I look at least 5 months gone...

Is one type, their 'dusty' ones are great too. Try searching 'great plains maxi'

knitknack · 26/04/2013 07:05

This is a great price if you suit pink!

amessagetoyouYoni · 26/04/2013 08:11

Ohhhh excellent, lots of others searching for maxi dresses, too! Grin

elfycat - that Fat Face one is really pretty. How long does it come up on you? And he tall are you?

Izzybuzzy - have just ordered one from Wallis, thank you so much!

landofsoapandglory - am a Dotty P fan usually, but their maxi dresses are soooo short on me. Deffo better for the under 5'7 -ish ladies.

castlesintheair - which New Look one did you buy? Can you link? Love a bit of bargainous NL!

LeoandBoosMum - thats a gorgeous dress, but my eyes are watering at the price. Jesus!

Am off to look at Great Plains now@knitknack!

Deffo going to check out the supermarkets and see what they have, too.

Thanks so much for everyone's input so far. If I see any bargains or especially nice dresses out and about today, will let you know.

landofsoapandglory · 26/04/2013 09:08

Thanks, Leather, I shan't bother then. I shall just get a couple of the T-shirt style ones.

Trill · 26/04/2013 09:20

I like maxidresses.
