Can we have a summer maxi dress thread please?

I need a few for a holiday.

I am looking for the really long ones (am 5'11, so this may be a challenge! I like floaty, flowy ones rather than those scary bodycon ones. Preferably patterned or with a print. Also, I'd like some dresses I can wear with a little cardi and nice sandals for a city look, rather than slobbing by the pool.

Anyone got any recommendations?

This one from Warehouse looks nice

castlesintheair · 26/04/2013 14:55

this is longest New Look maxi dress I bought

castlesintheair · 26/04/2013 14:59

Ghost have got some nice stuff too. I always find their clothes a good fit and long here

castlesintheair · 26/04/2013 15:02

And finally, Kaliko Always fit me brilliantly and look, they have a sale!

MooseyMoo · 26/04/2013 15:45

elfycat I've been looking a that fat face maxi online and finally went into a store and bought it today. It really is lovely. I'm a size 16 hour glass and 5ft 10. The hem is hitting top of my feet so message it might be a bit too short for you.

elfycat · 27/04/2013 05:57

I'm 5ft 6 and i'm not tripping over the hem when wearing flats. It might be down to how much length becomes width over my hips

Can you get to a store to try it on?

I'm going to buy the skirt in the same material, maybe, after pay day

amessagetoyouYoni · 27/04/2013 11:27

Thanks castles - thats really lovely.

I ordered three maxi dresses from Very yesterday and two are nice and long. Will try to link, but crap at doing it from my ipad.

This black bandeau dress which comes in Tall, Regular and Petite lengths.

And This patterned one which is MUCH nicer in real life - really happy with it. Also available in Tall, Reg and Petite.

Also got the green tropical Myleeeeeeeeeeene one - lovely and beachy, but tad too short for me. Would be fine for 5'6-5'9 height range I think.

I love maxidresses but I'm short and young looking and it just looks like my clothes are too big for me :(

I might try one of those tight maxi skirts this summer.

amessagetoyouYoni · 27/04/2013 11:48

If you're petite, the tighter fitting dresses / skirts are really nice. Look ridiculous on us lanksters!

Very do Maxi dresses in a petite range, I discovered, too.

I picked up a really nice blue and white one in Sainsburys, jersey, slight cowl neck, not billowy but not skin tight and most importantly for me, no tie back at the waist. I'm of an age that maternity dresses that tied behind you were all there was to wear and I just can't go there again.

The only catch is that the pattern is based on the blue and white portuguese azulejo tiles and I have been informed by teen DD that I'm going to blend in on hols. I don't care and am going to wear it with a cropped denim jacket and silver gigi's; rocking the tiles/tablecoth look Grin

AlwaysSleepingBeauty · 27/04/2013 15:46

I have just bought this one;

m.asos.com/mt/www.asos.com/Only/Only-Stripe-Maxi-Dress/Prod/pgeproduct.aspx?iid=2844900&SearchRedirect=true&SearchQuery=Only%20stripe%20dress&un_jtt_redirect

I'm hoping it will be a good buy, as hopefully I can wear it in different seasons. I'm a fool for stripes regardless, and couldn't resist at that price.

EmmaDale · 27/04/2013 16:40

I have this one from Phase Eight. Its currently half price in HoF and it's lovely, very very flattering and v long. I love it.

I don't need any more maxi dresses but the second one on the Wallis link is beautiful. I might just be tempted. Pity it isn't cotton though.

doublecakeplease · 27/04/2013 17:50

Ooh - i'd love a maxi dress but at 5'2', size 16 with 34h boobs its not easy to find one! Any suggestions / recommendations??

elfycat · 27/04/2013 18:00

The fat face dress has a twist in the front so there's a bit of extra material which might suit boobage.

As I said upthread I'm a pear so that's not my issue Smile

Trill · 27/04/2013 23:02

I bought a lovely not-very-summery maxi dress from Oasis today (it's not online) - black with a drapey cross-overy front and a gold belt.

I saw a similar one that I liked in Red Herring Maternity and said "I'd like a dress like this but not maternity" and Oasis delivered one that was even nicer.

landofsoapandglory · 28/04/2013 15:28

I bought this one today. It is much nicer in RL. It was on the end of the row and made you stop to look IYSWIM.

It is actually navy with butterflies on. DH wanted me to buy the pink but I wasn't sure.

mrspolkadotty · 28/04/2013 19:26

I'm 5'2, size 10 so would i be better with a maxi dress or skirt and vest top? Don't want to look like a dumpling!

I really want a navy stripe one, DP's look nice. I saw one in New Look but it's got a daft twist back which i couldn't wear a normal bra with so thats out.

LaTrucha · 28/04/2013 20:04

I am qondering about this one. What do you think?

LaTrucha · 28/04/2013 20:06

And this one although I think the tiers are potentially unflattering.
