This dress for funeral?

It is on Monday, and i have literally nothing here and no idea what to do at this late stage. Seen nothing in local stores, and would prefer something very special that could be worn in the future, also.

Is it fitting? I am not very experienced with this sort of thing, but we don't want anything too sombre, if that makes sense?

Also, I am usually a size 8 (with miniscule norks) and am worried the size this model is wearing might swamp me (she is much taller than me, I am 5'4). But I am afraid to get the 6 because i have a 26 inch waist and feel it might be too small???
Oh, and I am late 30's but this would definitely suit my 'look' if that makes sense.

And it is so expensive......please help me out!

Oh it's lovely. I have something similar (but much much cheaper) with an orange/red butterfly print that I wore to my nans funeral.

Do you think it's best to err on the side of a slightly larger fit than smaller?

the Jaeger site says 6 = 33, 25, 35 and an a 8 = 34, 26, 36. So it'd be best to go with the 8. Beautiful dress, sorry to hear it's for a sad occasion.

sorry for your loss. It's a really lovely dress and fine for a funeral. The only thing I would say is it's very expensive if you'll always associate it with the funeral and not wear it again. I think you would be able to get a lot of wear out of it for all kinds of occasions - as long as having bought it for a funeral wouldn't stop you wearing it for happier events.

I would go for something cheaper. I had a dress that I wore to a funeral and whenever I put it on again afterwards I was just reminded of the funeral so never wore it again and gave it to the charity shop. It as a bit of a waste of a lovely dress.

WipsGlitter it is my dad, sadly. Very sudden and quite traumatic, so we are all still reeling. I wondered about putting this into the bereavement section, but I really need to switch off the pain at present to get things done (practical/arrangements, etc), regardless how impossible that actually is, so need to avoid discussing it, if that makes sense. I have no idea what I'm doing - and having no decently appropriate clothes....aagh i need to sort it out so fast.

lilolilmanchester & dexter73 I can see what you mean, even though I had been admiring the dress for a few months now. I tell myself I would want to wear it again, but i also know that i might not be able to. Every days is different at the moment, and the feeling change like lightening. I could very well never wish to see it again by Tuesday.

Just wanted to let you know that the Jaeger site, and John Lewis and House of Fraser are all doing 20% off at the moment.

I've also heard that Jaeger sizing is on the large size, although have never bought anything there myself.

I was really peeved about the sold out sizes - typical. I am beginning to think the risk/price is too high, with the idea i may not want to wear it again. I would love to in theory, but god knows what i will feel later.

There are a few lace sleeved skater dresses around but maybe a bit much for a funeral?

I love Hobbs, but the colours I like at the moment won't really work for the occasion (I'm really fond of a mint chiffon dress in the sale..). This is so tricky, but have decided to let the Jaeger dress go. A knee length fit and flare would be good, cos i have a high waist and hate anything too cinched..

navy fit and flare

Navy is fine for a funeral. I know exactly where you are at. I packed nothing for the funeral of a family member and basically had one shop to get an outfit for. Since then I've always made sure I've a decent black coat just in case as that winter I'd gone for bright purple.

toasted I'll have a look at some dresses later once dc in bed but just wanted to say I hope you're ok (of course you're not but you know what I mean). As it's your dad do you feel you have to wear black/navy or would he have preferred you to wear a different colour?

MrsLettuce I love this style, and the low waist too, but worried about sizing - the orange one on model seems boxy, but the blue looks great.

I doubt he would mind whatever i wore, and my mum and sister seem fairly ok with whatever i choose, so it doesn't have to be too formal. I know one thing, if he had seen how much the Jaeger dress cost he would have thrown a fit!

Sorry about your Dad.

When my Dad died, I bought a dress I could literally throw away. I ended up with a really well cut, but cheap dress, from M&S that I knew would look rubbish after a few washes. In the end, I didn't find the funeral too traumatic, and I wore the dress a couple more times. DH kept saying "oh, the "funeral dress" again", so I did throw it out.

I actually like your dress, so I guess it depends on how you feel.

The alternative, in my mind, would be buy something cheaper, and then buy something really nice with the balance of money, that lifts your spirits and makes you think of your Dad with a smile.
