Was recomended on here for thick yellow nails. Mine have been awful for years and the proper stuff for dealing with it us v expensive.

Anyway, as I have Vicks, nothing to lose and 3 weeks later my nails are like new!

How/why on earth does that work? And why is no-one marketing it for nails!!

Moominsarehippos · 12/04/2013 09:52

The stuff you rub on your chest? Ooooo, how much/how often?

Gales · 12/04/2013 09:53

Good Lord... Every day is a bloody education on here...

Details, please. :)

Moominsarehippos · 12/04/2013 09:55

Great. I'm going to try it. My toenails are like Father Jack's.

Moominsarehippos · 12/04/2013 09:55

Jacks' ? Apostrophe confusion there.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 12/04/2013 09:57

How can it change nails that are already disfigured? Does it dissolve them or something?

withaspongeandarustyspanner · 12/04/2013 10:07

I didn't know this. How did I not know this?

Yonihadtoask · 12/04/2013 10:14

I hadn't heard of this?

What the hell is in Vicks??? Shock

Moominsarehippos · 12/04/2013 10:14

Hmmmmm I haven't got Vicks but have got Karvol. Ay good? Shall I do one foot Vicks and one foot Karvol?

ThePathanKhansAmnesiac · 12/04/2013 10:15

Tell me tell me !!

Isitme1 · 12/04/2013 10:17

Wow. Didnt known that. Will pass that on!
Glad it worked for you!

TheAccidentalExhibitionist · 12/04/2013 10:19

Um the proper stuff Amorolfine (sold as Curanail or Loceryl) is not expensive if you get it on prescription.

Gales · 12/04/2013 10:20

I have no idea how/why etc, in fact that was my question!

I wasn't expecting much - the expensive ointment says it can take up to a year, but can only report what happened to my manky toes and thank the mnetter who first suggested it.

I wonder how/why someone even tried it in the first place.

OP posts:
BringMeTea · 12/04/2013 10:21

Yes. It really does work. And ime, the 'proper' treatments do not and i had the expensive pills aswell as the curanail type lotions. One application showed a difference. And mine was a 20 year problem. Hallelujah!

DonDrapersAltrEgoBigglesDraper · 12/04/2013 10:22

So, what...? You rub it into the toenail once a day and leave?

What's the craic?

Gales · 12/04/2013 10:24

I know Accidental - that's why Id been putting it off - seemed a bit trivial to go to Gp for and I couldn't bring myself to pay the full price. Even on prescription a lot more expensive than Vicks though and lots more nasty stuff in it (I think)

OP posts:
Yonihadtoask · 12/04/2013 10:26

I had a bit of (what I think was) a fungal nail infection, and dutifully dabbed on tea tree oil every day for a good few weeks. It did clear it.

I wonder if there are similar ingredients which clear up the fungus ??

thenightsky · 12/04/2013 10:27

So do you rub it into the nail or the nail bed? Will it work despite having nail varnish on? I dare not go out without nail varnish!

Ujjayi · 12/04/2013 10:27

OP can you please provide detailed description of how to apply etc? Smile

Gales · 12/04/2013 10:35

I've been rubbing a bit into the nail and skin around the nail twice a day. I haven't been wearing nail polish

OP posts:
herbaceous · 12/04/2013 10:53

I've had a couple of claw-like nails, thanks to a fungal infection, for getting on for 20 years. And, like others, didn't want to go to the GP for something so trivial. If this clears it up before the summer, I shall be buying a new pair of sandals to celebrate.

Yonihadtoask · 12/04/2013 10:56

Even if it doesn't work, your feet will smell minty fresh! :)

Worth a try eh.

PyroclasticFlo · 12/04/2013 11:03

Vicks has essential oils in it like menthol, camphor etc which are anti fungal and antiseptic, so presumably it kills the infections in the same way that tea tree oil (also anti fungal, antiseptic and antiviral) would do.
