Are Chanel lipsticks worth the money?

I'm just getting into lipsticks now I know what shades work on me and have seen a couple of Chanel ones I like...but they are £££.

Yes they are lovely and last ages and ages.

I'm not a huge lipstick fan but I have one chanel one that I wear quite a lot - lovely colour, stays on for ages and feels nicer on than other lipsticks I've used. So yes, I think they are worth the money.

Geordie do you mean the colour lasts ages on your lips or the tube lasts ages? Both would be good :)

Yes. I have worn lipstick every day for the past 25 years and haven't found a better one yet. I like the Coco Rouge and Rouge Allure Velvet ranges (but careful - the latter are easy to break). They are particularly good if you need cool and muted shades.

You can test them at the counter - may be worth a shot as many long-lasting lipsticks can feel quite drying.

The Coco Rouge Shine range is unimpressive (poor lasting power), buy Revlon lip butters instead.

Great tips Frugal, one of the shades I like is a Rouge Shine on but I'll steer clear, as I do love the Revlon lip butters. The other one I like is Allure Velvet La Sensuelle. I do need cool, muted shades and the Chanel colours seem to fit the bill - so many other brands I've looked at lately (Mac, Laura Mercier, Bobbi Brown...) seem to have brown or peach undertones in almost every shade.

I bought one and got a small lipgloss as a gift. I am easily impressed with freebies.

I have one in the shade boy which is lobely amd imo very easy to wear.

I liked the look of Boy Allthings but thought it might be too pale and just look like a clear gloss. Is it quite pigmented?

I love Chanel lipsticks. My favourites are Rouge Coco in Mademoiselle, Cambon and Orchidee, and Rouge Allure Velvet in La Raffinnee.

In terms of the lipstick itself, no I don't think it is worth the money. I think Revlon are better lipsticks. BUT the Chanel packaging is nice and might just make you feel more special so if that's important to you, maybe it is worth it?

I've never had a Chanel lipstick. Now I'm tempted. What's a good neutralish colour. Not too bright or pink.

I don't rate them: I had one and it was quite sticky to wear, then it broke off in the tube. .

No it's not the packaging I'm after sue, its the right colour, texture and lastingness I want. I love the packaging of the Revlon lip butters, and do rate cheaper brands in general for quality, but the range of shades you get is poor. They tend to be quite one dimensional, simple colours, too bright and too warm.

Ogoogle I was very happy with Max Factor lipsticks re lasting power and texture but the shade range was too limited (Revlon cream lipsticks are okay but had a margariney taste that I hated). Chanels have just the right shade range for me - can recommend if you are cool-toned.

Everyone has a different neutral tone. I don't do nude shades but my personal favorite lipsticks are Coco Rouge Gardenia and Satin (slightly enhanced natural lip color on me).

Rouge d'Orage is an easy-to-wear red. I also love Camelia, Legende and Orchidee. In the summer I wear brighter shades, Cambon and a couple of Rouge Allure Velvet shades.

I love high end lipsticks, but Chanel are probably my least favourite, in terms of packaging, formula and performance. I just feel a bit meh about them. Give me a Dior lipstick any day.

I haven't looked at Dior Quinn, not sure why! I'll check out their lipsticks when I go for another look at Chanel. I think I once had a sample of Diorshow mascara and was unimpressed, and never looked at them again.

It's definitely the cool-toned Chanel colours that are drawing me in... Thanks for all the shade recommendations Frugal.

I used to like Dior cosmetics but they contain something that allergized me within months (red and itchy contact dermatitis). Found Chanel when I was looking for alternatives and haven't looked back.

Armani lipsticks are fantastic but the shades are not right for me

Mademoiselle is a good neutral shade for me if that helps at all. It's the the one Vanessa Paradis wears in the campaign.

Frugal Chanel foundations look amazing but none of them are pale enough for me :( It's very annoying.

Mademoiselle looks too peach for me Always but people on MUA seem to say it's a chameleon colour that looks different on everyone so I will check it out.

They are nice if you get the right colour but I wouldn't say they are any better than other mid range brands like Clinique or Bobbi Brown even.

Ogoogle I discovered that Satin is a cool version of Mademoiselle (which indeed is a bit brownish/orange/bronze on me). No major differences but cooler is just more flattering on me and makes my teeth look whiter.

Chanel foundations are a bit too dark on me too and quite average / not great (Lift Lumiere was the best on for me but not ideal - the initial glow becomes greasy over time and I have dry skin! I won't repuchase - the rest tend to go patchy after a few hours of wear). The main problem is that they pull yellow (=looks dirty on cool-toned skin) and I need a pink-based or neutral shade. If someone needs budget alternatives to Chanel foundation, the ones by Bourjois are worth a try. I liked them initially but unfortunately they congested my skin and caused really severe breakouts (cystic acne - not pretty). Revlon Colorstay in Ivory remains my HG. Great pale cool pink and oil-free formulation. Would like to find a lighter coverage alternative in the same shade - have sought high and low with no success so far.

Most budget cosmetics are very good these days - most h/e products have a hard time beating them.

I worked for chanel for two years.

Their lipsticks are good but I wouldn't pay the amount they are for them! I think you can get just as nice ones from any of the other mainstream brands.

Also try boujois as they are owned by chanel and a lot of the products are the same thing but packaged differently, even down to the colours being identical but different names.

I'm always looking for pink-toned foundations Frugal so will try the Revlon one - thanks! YSL apparently do some good pink-toned ones too. At the moment I'm using up my old Givenchy subli'mine sculpt light in exact candy, which is the perfect shade for me but has been discontinued :( Can also recommend Nars sheer glow in mont blanc for very pale, cool-toned people.

And I'll have a look at the Chanel Satin.

I'll do some colour comparisons between Chanel and Bourjois lipsticks in that case Fairylea :)
