Is this a massive fashion faux pas?

I have been living in dresses with a cardie, black tights and boots.

Can I still get away with this when if the weather warms up? And for how long? I'm assuming I'd look a complete idiot in the height of summer, but spring and early summer, is that ok? I would not be going bare legged I don't think, I'd have to switch to skin coloured tights or leggings.

The outfit you have described is my work staple until it is actually warm (So possibly July at a push!)
Although I've been wearing leggings instead of tights, as they're thicker. I don't see anything wrong with it, it's not like there's blazing hot sun burning down on you when you're wearing that outfit

Ah good, it seems like the fashion this summer is going to be bare legs and trainers which doesn't really seem very me. At least I'll not be alone with you doing it too Tuppence!

My plan for "Summer" is to wear my dresses with bare (fake tanned) legs and wedges, I don't do trainers!

Yuk I certainly wont be spoiling my nice summer dresses with horrible trainers! I decided last year to stop being a fashion victim and adopt a style I like and think suits me. I try and emulate a 40/50's look-so lots of tea or swing dresses. I wear them with tights or leggings in cold weather and either hair clips/bows or victory rolls.

Come summer-ha!-I will be wearing the same thing but will start wearing my petticoats again and little cardigans or shrugs and will wear the dresses with either sheer or nude fishnet tights. I have bad varicose veins so bare legs are a no no.

I don't like wearing heels so I shall be sporting ballet pumps all summer I think, no frigging way am I going to be wearing trainers, so I suppose I'm not down with the kids wither.

shoe your style sounds lovely, I have a gorgeous red pencil skirt with white polka dots that I have been planning on slimming into for a while, which is very 50's inspired.

I've pretty much lived in dresses like this all winter (I have a gorgeous bright red one I'm a little bit in love with)
My red dress has taken me through from last summer when I wore it with tan wedges and bare legs, then as soon as it got cold, out came the boots, tights and leggings. I've never thought about petticoats under dresses, though I do love 50s style dresses, I'm not sure I can pull it off.

Thanks-I am not slim hungry-a size 16! Would ideally like to lose a stone before summer and be a 14 but after years of dieting I am finally beginning to think fuck it! Plus pin up/retro styles look really good on bigger girls-or so I tell myself!

Same here shoe I'm a stress related eater and I am currently juggling a marriage breakdown, childcare, volunteer work and getting my degree, so I am not expecting to get into that skirt anytime now!

That's the wonderful thing about dresses, they tend to skim over your wobbly bits!

Shoe, I definitely think you're right, 50s style suit boobs and hips! I'm stuck in tea dresses because I'm a weird shape and size, which is why I have never worn the gorgeous 50s style dress that's been hanging in my wardrobe for 5 years, waiting for a day out!
