Yesterday was in big city, so took the chance to sample (again) another one of my favourite golden oldies: Vol de Nuit. Even in it's diminished modern form, they don't make them like this any more. In spite of its name, I find it to be a daytime perfume. Cool at first, a bit aloof and complex, but then slowly developing something warm and comforting. Definitely on my list to save up for.

Puddlelane · 06/04/2013 21:17

Hi, I was wondering if you experts can help me?
I'm getting married this winter and I need a wedding smell! I want a new one so when I smell that smell it should will bring back nice memories and I love a good perfume!

I'll give you some perfume history-
Ralph
Eternity Moment
Green Apple DKNY
Orange Blossom by Jo Malone
Paradise by Estée Lauder
Lola by Marc Jacobs
Romance- Ralph Lauren- not strong enough but a nice smell.

I don't suit Chanel's Chance or Clinique Happy.

Would anyone mind helping me? Sorry I feel a bit of a pain!

Puddlelane · 06/04/2013 21:20

Oh and musky isn't good on me either :(

IsabelleRinging · 07/04/2013 10:06

Hi Puddle, from the ones you have listed it looks like you like quite light florals, but not musky or citrussy. I am no expert and I am sure someone more experienced ill be along to help soon, but you could try:

Chloe, this is a nice floral and Chloe Love is a little bit heavier and even more floral.

The new Jour d'Hermes is a sort of sparking fruity floral and would be nice for a wedding. Very subtle.

You might like Ellie Saab, this always strikes me as quite bridal and it is heavy on orange blossom.

I wore Estee lauder Pleasures on my wedding day (many moons ago). Congratulations. Happy sniffing.

FrugalFashionista · 07/04/2013 16:20

Sorry about not posting, have been out in the mountains taking a short break. Only wore Chanel No. 19 EdP and as a treat, L'Air du Desert Marocain. (It smelled stunning up there - dry and woody and wonderfully resinous). Fuzzy happy that L'Etoile finally arrived - like many of Mona's perfumes, it's really quite unique. (Will wear her tuberose later.)

ChocsAwayInMyGob · 08/04/2013 09:14

I can't believe we're on our fourth thread! (I was here under a previous name).

I am wearing Balmain de Balmain today and I am totally in love with it. Sod's Law, of course, since it's been discontinued.

flora- Vol de Nuit is superb. I wish more people wore it today. I wore it last week and it just smells so classy and vintage-y.

Puddle- Congratulations! I agree with Isabelle that Pleasures is a lovely wedding day perfume. Also you could try Chanel Cristalle or Cristalle Eau Vert. The latter smells like fresh tulips and is divine. They are not like the other Chanels, which leave me a bit meh (apart from no19)

MrsSchadenfreude · 08/04/2013 09:54

I adore Vol de Nuit and agree re it being a daytime fragrance. It is one of my "work" perfumes. Several people have commented on it, and asked what it was - one said "It smells expensive!"

Chocs - there is an odd little shop near me that sells discontinued perfumes - do you want me to see if they have the Balmain de Balmain for you at a reasonable price? (You may have more luck on ebay, of course.)

I am still enjoying my love-in with Cabochard. Had another go of Chergui at the weekend, and do like it, but not enough to get a full bottle.

MrsSchadenfreude · 08/04/2013 09:57

Puddle - if you have a big M & S near you, see what you think of the Fragonard perfumes. They do some lovely florals. Would also recommend Chanel No 22.

VenusRising · 08/04/2013 09:59

Onelittlelady the lidl own brand Suddenly Woman is a dead ringer for Chanel eau de mademoiselle. It's aout three quid. My DH and dd say its nicer than edm.

ChocsAwayInMyGob · 08/04/2013 10:17

Here's a review of Lidl Suddenly Madame Glamour. It smells very similar to Chanel Coco Madamemoiselle.

iscentyouaday.wordpress.com/2013/01/11/suddenly-madame-glamour-by-lidl-and-now-for-something-completely-different/

ChocsAwayInMyGob · 08/04/2013 10:21

Mrs Schadenfreude, if you can find it for less than £25, that would be great. I have found a 30ml bottle on eBay for that price. Rumour has it that Balmain may bring them back if there is enough interest to merit a relaunch. I think they may test the water with pushing Vent Vert first.

I tried No 22 the other day and found it very cold and frosty. I think it was the Iris, which I love in a garden but dislike in a scent.

VenusRising · 08/04/2013 12:05

Yes it would help if I got the name right.
That's it, suddenly madame glamour, in a white pearlescent box with a gold end. Just like the Chanel one. Great longevity and slightly less silage than the Chanel one, but chanel's one is a nukebomb.
I love it especially as its only 3 quid, body wash and lotion also sold in a pack for a fiver.

pocketandsweet · 08/04/2013 12:30

I have a bottle of the Lidl Suddenly. And will happily send it to anyone who might like it... Only tried it twice. ;)

OneLittleLady · 08/04/2013 13:57

Might have a look at that then if I ever get round to going to Lidl. No scent today, feeling rather down in the dumps and nothing seems to be lifting my spirits. Sad

Fuzzybirds · 08/04/2013 14:31

Puddle have you tried Guerlain's Chamade or Hermes 24 Faubourg? If I were to have my wedding day all over again I would choose one of these.

OneLittleLady sending you a virtual hug and a Brew

Trying a little dab of Amouage's Jubilation 25 today, a gorgeous classic floral with some ambery, musky undertones. I like it lots but don't love, which is probably a good job considering the price!

OneLittleLady · 08/04/2013 14:33

Ah, I love a good brew. I even whispers like a brew more than I like wine....... thanks fuzzybirds

FrugalFashionista · 09/04/2013 09:34

Again sorry about sporadic postings. Nose fatigue, perfume free days, busy with other things. In general, perfume is all about 'cocooning' for me, ie a fall/winter thing. When it gets warm I return to a limited repertoire of citrus colognes, irises and other light, cooling and refreshing perfumes.

coffeeinbed · 09/04/2013 10:31

Puddle, congratulations.
Try Diorissimo. Lilly of the valley, very much a bridal theme.

I tried Miller Harris Fleurs de Sel this weekend, salty leather, bitter flowers. Lovely.
Also Serge La Fille de Berlin - big rose. I wasn't paying much attention - got distracted by the new Nars Lipstics, so will have to re-try.

Puddlelane · 09/04/2013 10:31

Hi everyone, thank you for your answers. I will go with my list and have a smell.
My beloved Granny wore Pleasures, she now wears Jo Malone!

ChocsAwayInMyGob · 09/04/2013 14:32

coffee- I couldn't bear la Fille de Berlin. I was testing it yesterday. Have you seen the video on the Serge website? So depressing and stark. I found the rose in La Fille overpowering and nightmarish.

Puddle- have you tried the lastest range from Jo malone the eprson 9not the brand) sicne leaving the brand she has set up another perfume house called Jo Loves. There are only 8 fragrances but one of the, Gardenia, is a soliflore that is very bridal. I'm pretty sure they will send you a little sample if you ask nicely, since they only have a website and a Chelsea showroom so far.

ChocsAwayInMyGob · 09/04/2013 14:33

sorry about typos- forgot to proof read before posting.

IsabelleRinging · 09/04/2013 23:24

I gave Estee's Private Collection another test spray today, think I will have to get this one, it has the most gorgeous dry down and lasts for hours, it smells stronger and more beautiful after 8 hours than some of my other perfumes do after just spraying. Not as keen on the initial hour or two but it's worth the wait.

FrugalFashionista · 10/04/2013 07:08

SOTD Terre d'Hermes, gorgeous scent, don't understand why I don't wear this more often...

ChocsAwayInMyGob · 10/04/2013 08:32

I think Estee Lauder is very underrated. They make excellent fragrances.

Today I am wearing Serge Lutens Clair de Musc. It's pleasant but nothing new in the world of Musks. Smells a bit like Malle's Musc Ravageur and bit like Impulse Hint of Musk.
