What shoes do you wear in the months between boots and sandals?

I struggle with this every year and usually revert to ballet pumps or Fly wedges.

I like something fairly chunky, interesting colours (don't really mind any colour) and a wedge heel

I've toyed with Birks shoes, but I'm not sure. Clarks are a bit hit and miss, I have some loafer style ones that I'm in occasionally now, they are comfort soles, but really, they are no more padded than other shoes and I can only bear them for a day or two a week.
I dream of doc marts, I had many pairs as a teen/student. I can't decide if I want to look that way again! But I know they do other styles now that I might invest in for next winter.
Gotta love a sensible shoe Grin

MrsShrek3 · 17/03/2013 08:19

I wear mostly lace ups. still wear boots with dresses...Hmm

BanoffeeSplitz · 17/03/2013 08:36

Brogues - but I only like wearing them with bare ankles, so it's far too cold for me to wear them yet.
I like to have warm feet (unless it's proper hot weather), so I am only just making the transition from sheepskin boots to biker boots.

I would like to wear flat lace up ankle boots until it's warm enough to wear brogues, but I haven't found any that look quite right.

IAmSheWhoMustBeObeyed · 17/03/2013 08:49

I have this problem too and hate the way that some days start chilly, get warm, so uncomfortable in tights and of course by late afternoon chilly again. My conclusion ATM is to wear trousers and I do wear trainers and converse (I'm 49!) but the search for a shoey shoe continues.

I find this such a problem too. I bought these boots yesterday for something lighter but not sure what they will go with.

Socks are the problem! Everything needs bare feet but it's too bloody cold! I've tried brogues and they looked OK but did remind me of school shoes! (And even they would have looked better with bare ankles). I also tried the controversial wedge trainers but I felt too fashion-victim-y.

I end up living in Converse until it's flip flop weather but I'd love to find a smarter option.

NinaNannar · 17/03/2013 09:55

I've bought some cool tassled loafers from next. Had some nice ram moccasins last year. (Not for work obv)

NinaNannar · 17/03/2013 09:55

Tan. Not a ram.

NinaNannar · 17/03/2013 09:56

If you wear ankle boots what's the issue?

Not pumps any more since I slid in the rain yesterday, landed on my hands and knee and had to be helped up by two pensioners Confused

foxysocks · 17/03/2013 10:05

ankle boots - i have jalouse or these www.shopbop.com/brit-wrap-strap-bootie-jeffrey/vp/v=1/845524441945604.htm?folderID=2534374302166571&fm=hearts-shopbysize-viewall&navFolderId=2534374302166539 to choose from (sorry I don't know how to make links shorter!)

or trainers. i like ash virgins, the leather means they are fine in the wet, or canvas (have navy converse right now which are useful and go with everything, might get some superga soon) if it's dry

i can't wear ballerinas unless it's much warmer than this, I hate having cold feet.

whatagreatname · 17/03/2013 10:51

I like a lot of what has been linked to but still a bit too wintry boot for me. I have the opposite problem to a lot of you in that I hate wearing socks and I have been wearing ankle biker boots all winter.

So.....I could wear brogues without socks

landofsoapandglory · 17/03/2013 11:02

I like these. I already have 2 pairs of brogues from Dune and they are so comfy. I have, also, bought some nude patent loafers from Clarks but can't link because the site is down.

freddiefrog · 17/03/2013 11:19

I tend to keep wearing the same stuff until it's warm enough to wear flip flops/ballet flats.

My depths of winter boots are a pair of Caterpillar Mardy boots, but I also wear Converse, Ash wedges, tan ankle boots, black ankle boots. I wear everything but the Mardys

whatagreatname · 17/03/2013 11:28

I really like those brogues landofsoapandglory

I have a similar condition to PF and have the same dilemma, exacerbated by having twig legs. I've spent the last 2 winters in a pair of rubber soled biker style boots from Dune, and summer in Birkenstocks. Even getting the boots re-soled has caused headaches- I had to get them re-done as the first soles were too hard!

I found a less clumpy pair of Scholl sandals last summer but am starting to stress about what I can find that won't kill me. I have already got 2 weddings coming up but I cannot choose an outfit until I have footwear as I will have to work around that Sad

Am wondering if I could manage a pair of flatforms (orthotics permitting)...

Corygal · 17/03/2013 16:07

I go camel coloured boots (hope of sun) or loafers, Sebago preppy ones not the dreaded car shoe.

I completely abandoned Bloch ballets in the wet after as I went flying through a tube station and out the other side (and, smug, I landed in a different zone). God it hurt.

CorrieDale · 17/03/2013 16:18

41, I bought some pink DM wedge lace up ankle boots that are so comfortable and cute - they get loads of compliments. They were in the sale so not even too pricey. Definitely worth checking out the website!

41notTrendy · 17/03/2013 18:25

Artex I LOVE those DM boots of yours! Serious boot envy.
My other issue with footwear at this time of year is I don't like wearing tights/pop socks so I limit myself further by only wearing socks or bare feet. I'm not a fan of Brogues, not my style. I've worn lace up pumps today. Am going to seek out some flatforms I think.
V useful thread!

Drywhiteplease · 17/03/2013 19:14

whatagreatname love those brogues, the colour is tricky for some but it would work for me......

Brogues,loafers,ballet flats

I've had a search around and the Zalando website has some lovely shoes www.zalando.co.uk/

I need socks, I just don't do anything, but leather lined sandals without socks. Any suggestions other than trainers that I could get away with long skinny jeans and the chance of a tiny bit of sock showing.
