Should I get a Michael Kors rose gold watch? Or have I missed the boat?!

I am looking for a new watch. I want something current and on trend and would like a 'statement' watch.

I love the Michael Kors watches, but I know that these have been around for a while now and I don't want to get one, only for it to look dated quickly when people move on to the next big thing.

What do you stylish lot think?!

I don't know anybody personally who actually has a MK watch, so I won't feel like I am following the crowd too much iyswim.

If not the Michael Kors, then which other style is new and on trend?

No. they are really way too fashionable and will date very quickly.
My DH got me a Tissot with a mother-of -pearl face last birthday and it is really different but won't date.

SofaCanary · 13/03/2013 00:14

It's only the rose gold ones that are going to date badly imo.

fooolofbeans · 13/03/2013 04:18

yup i got mine 6 months ago because i loved it, but now they;re everywhere and i hate looking like a sheep, going to put it on ebay and find a nice vintage seiko i think x

BrendaBlethyn · 13/03/2013 05:50

They're a bit crackery IMO

AmberNectarine · 13/03/2013 07:48

I've got one and like it, and actually while every fashion blogger seems to own one, you don't come across them that often in real life. However, I have had it less than 18m and it is about to go in for it's third repair, so quality isn't amazing!

MrsDoomsPatterson · 13/03/2013 07:56

I agree with ambernectarine. I think they're lovely, I have a different MK watch, leather with gold, but I seriously still want a rose gold one, how lovely for Summer. If you like it - buy it! I haven't seen anyone with one (apart from my sister!)

MrsDoomsPatterson · 13/03/2013 07:57

Oh yes, a friend has one with tortoiseshell. That's lovely too.

onyx72 · 13/03/2013 08:02

The strap keeps going on my silver one and I've had it less than a year, so I'd spend your money on something else.

foxysocks · 13/03/2013 09:11

i love mine and don't know anyone else with one IRL apart from one friend who lives in another city. if you like it who cares?

AlwaysOneMissing · 13/03/2013 09:20

fresh I think you and I actually have the exact same watch! My current one is a Tissot with mother of pearl face, it has been a great watch, and is still going strong. I intend to keep it. But I also want something a little more 'fashionable' and a statement.
sofa yes I think you are probably right.
foool that must be annoying. But I don't actually know anyone in RL who has this watch, so I won't feel too much like a sheep hopefully.
Brenda I do know what you mean actually! But that doesn't really put me off, I still like them.
mrsDooms I saw the tortoiseshell one but I think I prefer the plainer wrist straps. Although its not very reassuring that yours keep breaking Onyx and Amber! At least I have been warned though so can be prepared for that.

I did see another one online which I would like to see in the flesh and compare it to the rose gold one. Have any of you seem this one?

I really like that, always...v stylish.

LulaPalooza · 13/03/2013 13:25

I love my MK watch very, very much. I got this one a year ago and I wear it almost every day. I have (touch wood) had no problems with it at all. It looks much blingier in the pictures than it does in real life. It makes me very happy!

I quite like the rose gold ones but I wear mostly silver or white gold/ platinum jewellery so wanted something that would match my every day look.

I only know one other person with a MK watch and hers is a gold one, which I also like.

AlwaysOneMissing · 13/03/2013 14:26

Lula that's lovely, very tasteful, I don't think it looks overly blingy.
I wear mostly yellow gold (it suits my skin tone better) but I don't really mind mixing my metals, so I'm hoping a rosé gold one, or the one I linked to above, will look ok with my yellow gold rings.

MrsDooms thank you, it does look nice on that pic doesn't it. I need to go see it in real life now to get a better idea of what it's like. It's hard to tell what the colour will be like from the pic.

I don't wear watches but got my dsis a marc jacobs rose gold one v similar to the MK for her bday last year. I think irl they will be "in" for a while although the blogger pack will inevitably have moved onto something new.

LulaPalooza · 13/03/2013 14:54

Thanks, Always
Just noticed that MK does the same style as mine in a rose gold and silver mix and also in a pale yellow gold with a wee bit of rose gold here though the latter is out of stock.

LulaPalooza · 13/03/2013 14:56

Ooh Always just noticed the last one you linked to, the alabaster one... that's lovely and v stylish

AyeOopMoose · 13/03/2013 15:04

I've got the one with the clear links my beauty

I luffs it. And I sold a load of old clothes on ebay to fund it's purchase so guilt free!

On the ebay note, check them out there. There are quite a few and you can tell which are genuine by the listing etc. They are cheaper than retail, then if you do decide you've gone off it in a few months you haven't lost much.

AyeOopMoose · 13/03/2013 15:05

Oh and I would second that they don't look anywhere near as blingy in RL.

MrsDoomsPatterson · 13/03/2013 15:08

I guess it's realistic to say we don't live our lives like a fashion blog & really, if you like something, then please go ahead and buy it!

Lizzylou · 13/03/2013 16:06

I love the rose gold ones but wear mainly white gold/silver tones, so DH is buying me a MK watch very like This one for my big birthday in a few weeks.

I have a Tissot that I love (for my last significant birthday) and searched and searched but the one I found is the one I really love.

Buy what you like.

Lizzylou · 13/03/2013 16:07

Oh, wrong watch linked, mine is not acrylic and rose gold, but silver toned and rose gold.

HoneyStAngelo · 13/03/2013 16:18

I have that one, it is beautiful. It was too big for me and I went to have it made smaller at a jewellers and stupidly thought I could get it cheaper at a shoe repairer/key cutter shop at a cheaper price. I paid a couple of pounds and promptly forgot to ask for the links he removed. When I realised a week later that if I needed it to be made bigger, I couldn't!!! I went back and the chap had thrown away the links.

fooolofbeans · 13/03/2013 17:31

i have this one

i work in a trendy wine bar and too many of the cool cat customers have it. i am not a cool cat.

is it illegal to sell on MN?? Blush

if not get in touch i have all the docs etc, if so i'll be putting it on ebay xx

shopafrolic · 13/03/2013 17:41

I have the same one foool I love it and don't know anyone else who has it, other than Amber who I don't know IRL. I've had mine since Nov, worn almost every day and haven't had any issues.

bunnymother · 13/03/2013 17:51

I personally wouldn't as the MK ones strike me as a trend item, and I don't like my watch to be a trend item, if that makes sense. But they are affordable and if rose gold works for you...
