so what REALLY suits lardies?

Moomin · 30/04/2006 22:43

am very lardie at the moment, 2.5 st overweight but am doing sg about it, gradually (started exercising again and am watching what i eat but not in obsessive way as this would make me miserable). feel very PLOBBY though and need some ideas about wot really suits bigger figures. am going back to work soon after mat leave and am nervous about wot to wear.

i am tall (5'9"), big boobs, very wobbly belly (by far worst feature), bum fine, legs not bad (thighs slimmish) although a couple of good cankles to end the effect. i'm in size 16 clothes at the moment although have needed to go to 18 for the odd item. am fed up being told wrap dresses look nice on curvy bodies as have worn a few recently then seen the photos and i look like a cross between a dinner lady and a barrel on stilts.

wot can i wear until i get to be the size i want?

get some magic knickers to start with.

Moomin · 30/04/2006 22:52

got em! or rather have got some m&s all in ones. the knickers always feel like they're too tight round my arse and the flab's just being sqwoozed into a tyre under my boobs. i still look like a barrel though, with no waist, which i know can't be helped. what clothes on top of the scaffolding?

fishie · 30/04/2006 22:53

i'm a bit that shape (although very sad for me 4" shorter) and top and skirt / trouser is usually far better than dress. v neck square top slimish cut bottom best for covering tum.

Moomin · 30/04/2006 23:03

even with the old bingo wings on display?

OP posts:
beetroot · 30/04/2006 23:04

I would go for longer sleeve tops tbh.

fishie · 30/04/2006 23:08

yes but does moomin have bw? she doesn't mention.

beetroot · 30/04/2006 23:09

she asked the question!!!

fishie · 30/04/2006 23:10

oops sorry that was you mentioning, wasn't paying proper attentin. beetroot's top nice, but really would have to sut the colour!

Moomin · 30/04/2006 23:13

thanks for that. want some HONEST opinions about what looks good and what not. I've always had a quite positive body image really and even though i'm usually about at least 1st overweight i always feel very confident and i wear clothes that i like rather than those that do cover-up jobs. Now i'm bigger than i've ever been so i'm feeling very self-conscious now that i'm wearing clothes to try to disguise my size.

i mean, do kaftan tops really look stylish on big girls or do they scream 'HELLO I'M FAT!'?? do fitted blouses look more flattering or do they make most people think 'mutton dressed up as mutton'?

OP posts:
Moomin · 30/04/2006 23:14

and although haven't got desperate bingo wings, arms are chunky enough not to want attention drawing to them. i sound lush don't i

Do you watch Trinny and Susannah? Based on your description of yourself, does your body look like Susannah's? IIRC, she's busty with good/slim legs too, so could you take a look at how she dresses for some ideas?

fishie · 30/04/2006 23:17

oh moomin, perhaps i am innocent twit but i think that it what most women ask themselves. and it depends on the cut, so best to try it on.

beetroot · 30/04/2006 23:19

wrap hides bulges. I woudl not go for kaftan but tops with detail at fron, lower neck line with scares.

brimfull · 30/04/2006 23:21

I think ( and I am a size 18) that plain light coloured tops tend to accentuate the blubbery bits.Well they do on me.The top first top beetroot linked is the right shape but a pattern would hide the bulges better.
Kaftans look ok if they're not too baggy and have a curvy silhouette not just straight up and down .As you're taller they would probably suit you better than me at 5'4".I have to make sure they aren't too long and drown me.I bought a nice flattering white tunicy/top from evans yesterday.Sorry can't do links, but as you're a 16 you don't need to shop there.

Moomin · 30/04/2006 23:22

yes i know but people like trinny grab susannah's non-existent backside and say 'suze has a whopping great arse on her so she needs such-and-such'. i hate all this pseudo 'does my bum look big in this' bollocks most of the time as every other woman i meet (well most!) looks absolutely fine to me and has nothing to worry about. i DARE anyone to try my stomach on for size for a day and see if she's not a weeping wreck by tea-time. and i'm NOT exaggerating

Moomin · 30/04/2006 23:23

(was saying yes i know to fishie and earlybird!)

OP posts:
fishie · 30/04/2006 23:23

oof, what a drip i sound, pulling myself together...

katfans/tunics are set to be fashionable for a while, you are tall so if you can find ones with a slim cut it might be good, but if you are curvy may be a hefty silhouette

Moomin · 30/04/2006 23:24

i probably should have a look in evans actually - my top is larger than bottom so 18 would be fine at the moment.

OP posts:
brimfull · 30/04/2006 23:24

no mine is bigger than yours moomin ...so there!!

Moomin · 30/04/2006 23:26

betcha!
mine looks like i'm wearing a carrier bag full of mashed potato strapped to my front under all my clothes

OP posts:
fishie · 30/04/2006 23:29

moomin i am 18 top (giant shoulders + bfing norks) 16 massivo pot tum waist, 14 hips and spindly legs. and i am 5'5" - i look like an ice cream cone.

and i start work again on tuesday when are you back?

brimfull · 30/04/2006 23:29

well mine looks like a small polar bear has decided to hibernate under my breasts
