am very lardie at the moment, 2.5 st overweight but am doing sg about it, gradually (started exercising again and am watching what i eat but not in obsessive way as this would make me miserable). feel very PLOBBY though and need some ideas about wot really suits bigger figures. am going back to work soon after mat leave and am nervous about wot to wear.

i am tall (5'9"), big boobs, very wobbly belly (by far worst feature), bum fine, legs not bad (thighs slimmish) although a couple of good cankles to end the effect. i'm in size 16 clothes at the moment although have needed to go to 18 for the odd item. am fed up being told wrap dresses look nice on curvy bodies as have worn a few recently then seen the photos and i look like a cross between a dinner lady and a barrel on stilts.

wot can i wear until i get to be the size i want?

i'm back at work beginning of june

i need stuff that's not too expensive too as i'm obviously hoping i won't be wearing it for too long. but there;s nothing worse than trying to cram yourself into clothes that are clearly too small so i need a few staples (yeah stomach staples). only back 2 days a week though so it's not toooo bad

well if anyone finds out then tell me
Wrap tops look unspeakable on me, all I seem to wear is variations on the theme of a long fairly straight skirt and a v-neck, or top and cardigan affair. It's very, very dull

good plan not to spend too much moomin - ghastly though my posiition is it was a lot worse and i have discarded several pairs of trousers outgrown. suggest you do similar - have you got a peacocks or primark?

Moomin · 30/04/2006 23:41

no, not in home town although can get to them if i make the effort. tend to go to new look for reasonably priced stuff, although primark is probably going to be dirt cheap in comparison. good idea.

SS, good grief if I couldn't wear black (or at least chocolate or something of that ilk) in the summer I'd go mad. It's bad enough that the only T's you can get atm stop at that unflattering bit between gut and saddlebags, or if they're long enough they are so badly shaped you look 10 stone heavier, if I then had to wear them in summery colours I just wouldn't bother going out!

Moomin, wrap tops are nice but I haven't found a wrap dress yet that doesn't cling in the wrong places. Actually, tbh I haven't found anydresses that don't make me look awful, plus I hate that summer hot legs thigh chafing thing so I stick to trousers. Tight 3/4 length trousers make everyone over 14 have sausage legs so avoid, although loose ones are OK. Kaftan tops can be OK if they've got a bit of a shape to them, otherwise it's like doing an impression of Demis Russos Grin

I'm a size 20, but I'm 5'10 so I have some shape, just a bit too much in the thigh, tummy and bum area! I have a long body and disproportionately short legs (although still too long for standard fit) and I think I look best in long straight leg cotton or linen trousers, and fitted tops or kaftans that skim rather than cling. What's more important though, is that I feel comfortable in that. No matter how much someone might tell you something looks good on you, if you don't feel right it just won't work. Hope my rambling is of some use Smile
