HELP!!! Fake Tan Virgin!

Gillian76 · 30/04/2006 18:13

Have bought some fake tan to put on for the wedding we're going to next Saturday, but I've never used it before.

I have been exfoliating and moisturising for about 3 days and would like to do a trial run to see how it goes. I have got the Sanctuary Self Tan Lotion in a pump action bottle.

Has anyone used this one and any tips for applying so I don't end up streaky. Can't tell you how worried I am about this!

Help, please :)

Think I will have to use lots. I put a little bit on my arm the other day and it made no difference whatsoever...

Maybe I have bought a duff brand?

Luggs · 01/05/2006 18:56

someone on here suggested using a tanning mit for application - followed their advice and have had no problem with streaks

MABS · 01/05/2006 19:17

Jean Pail Mist on is a spray booth works brilliantly on me, and only takes 30 secs!

BettySpaghetti · 01/05/2006 19:20

Be especially careful around knees and ankles as it can go a bit blotchy - agree with whoever said just keep rubbing it in really well.
Good luck

cod · 01/05/2006 19:22

yep for ages

From Houston, Texas (tropical weather, everyone shows lots of skin), & have very light skin & HATE tanning, so have a lot of experience with this.

This is what I do ...

Buy the "light skinned" version of the tanning lotion - I use Coppertone from the drugstore; they're all good now & doesn't have to be an expensive one.

Prepare by exfoliating legs & then shaving them.

Put REGULAR lotion, not tanning lotion, on your elbows, knees, and around ankles. Then - Don't tan feet at first, just put tanning lotion on arms and legs, rub in well, and try to avoid knees, elbows and ankles. One coat may be all you need. You should see the effects in one hour. If you need another coat then, go for it.

Arms and legs should be the only places you really need tanning. But then again, if you want to try chest or even face (caution - mine looks terrible tanned) - again go for it.

Read that your lotion might be "too light" - but just keep putting coats on, should work. I would think that more subtle is better than overdoing it.

Good luck.
