My stunning friends needs a wedding dress that doesn't make her feel like an 8 eight old playing fancy dress

She's about 5ft 1. Beautiful with thick wavy chestnut hair downs to her waist. A size 8 at the most. She wants vintagey style but the only dress she's found is £4,000 and that's way too much. Any ideas where she should be looking and for what style? She's south east

'Vintagey' needs to be pinned down a bit - art deco/30's style? 50s style? Something antique/Edwardian??

The Vintage Wedding Dress Company in London have genuine and reproduction, also Fur Coat No Knickers on Carnaby St sell vintage and can remodel/refit/alter/make new. Jenny Packham is the place for an art deco 1930s style, Candy Anthony is 50s. I can recommend Joanne Fleming in Brighton for bespoke at reasonable prices.

First of all, have you checked out my blush wedding dress thread? thread

Your friend's stats are similar enough to mine wish I had her hair so there might be a few ideas there even if she's looking for a more traditional colour. Some gorgeous stuff here Eliott Claire and you can get made-to-measure. Keep an eye out for Jenny Packham stuff on Ebay. Guess it depends on what she wants to spend. 4,000 is nutso.

Lighthousekeeping · 15/02/2013 12:55

Thanks. She's got abit if a hippy vibe going on but deffo not 70's!

It was Jenny Packham she tried on a dress called Esme. She wants it but it was above her budget.

Tell her to check out Pinterest - lots of ideas there. Or google something like 'boho wedding dress inspiration'. (But tell her to keep her wits about her if she does that. It'll all be so dreamy and pretty and romantic and she might GET SUCKED IN AND WANT TO SPEND ££££ fall for something expensive!)

The Jenny Packham dresses are gorgeous and sound right up her street, but even on Ebay they won't be cheap. And tell her to come and lurk on S&B herself, she'll pick up ideas and links here she'd never otherwise come across!

Check out Joanne Fleming - her style is quite Packham and her dresses are silk, bespoke handmade and cheaper than JP.

TheBeanAndTheBee · 15/02/2013 14:44

What's her budget?

cremeeggsrock · 15/02/2013 14:57

You must check out NOT ON THE HIGHSTREET they have loads of vintage style accessorise, may give some inspiration!

slug · 15/02/2013 15:38

Check out the Ghost wedding dresses. Definitely a bit of a 30's vibe going on there

Lighthousekeeping · 15/02/2013 19:16

Well she boaked at £2000 but I reckon if she doesn't find anything like the Jenny Packham one she'll pay it.

MrsLettuce · 15/02/2013 19:45

showtunesgirl · 15/02/2013 19:48

Lighthousekeeping · 15/02/2013 20:23

Yes lettuce that would be the one! Apparently they all started bawling when she tried it on. I think her heart is set on it but her head is saying otherwise
