I want a blush evening gown/wedding dress - you lot are my only hope!

Hi all. Mostly lurk on these boards and post occasionally. Really need help finding a dress to wear for my wedding in a few months' time.

I've decided I'd love to wear a blush/nude/palest pink dress and I want it to be long and vaguely bohemian, if that doesn't sound too wanky. The problem is size (sort of) and budget. I am very teeny and petite and am finding that many Gown (capital G) type dresses come up quite large in sizes. The length doesn't bother me, I'll just wear giant heels, but the size is trickier. I ordered this dressBand of Outsiders in a size 1 and although it's stunning, the fit wasn't quite right.

Have ANY of you seen a similiar type dress anywhere? Or can you recommend sites that do small sizes? (I'm a 6-8 UK size.) My budget would be about 450 pounds, 500 absolute max, but ideally much much MUCH cheaper. I don't want a meringue, and I don't want to have to pay fuckloads in import tax from the US.

Flowers in advance

I bought a dress from French Connection for my wedding, it cost £150. I can't link as I'm on my phone but if you type 'French Connection Shelby dress' into google images it comes up.

It looks quite like the one you linked and is a beautiful blush colour with a sweatheart neckline and small pleats.

I'm not sure if FC still sell them but you cn get them on ebay or if you want a size 8 I'll sell mine as I didn't wear it in the end (though I did get married!), still has the tags on.

If you really like the dress you linked to could you not buy it and get a seamstress to take it in for you? It shouldn't cost more than £50.

Good luck in your search!

Ian Stuart does a lot of blush/palest pink dresses (mine was that colour, lush!), though most are a bit meringuey, and definitely £££, but you may find an ex-sample one or pre-loved within budget, and be able to minimise any meringueness. Just an idea, in case you hadn't considered this.

You are geniuses, S&B folk, thank you all soooo much.

Ok, here goes

sweetheart

All of those dresses are gorgeous. The Temperley fab but too dear and would prob need the size 6. The Halston colour is perfect and love it from the waist down but the neckline...my boobs are tiny and I think I'd get that weird pancake boob look.

Queef

That FC is lovely and thank your for the offer to sell! I will totally keep it in mind. The Band of Outsiders dress I linked to, while truly fab, just doesn't quite work with my size, the froofing layered skirt around the empire line doesn't flatter. So I think it's not worth getting it taken in. You need to be real tall and really skinny to pull it off, I think.

smarmy

great choices. The Forever Unique is pretty but ultimately too barbie-ish with the pink and the sequins, I think. The two Ted Bakers are gorgeous - I am seriously considering the second one...Flowers

Nombre

The first one...noooo not close! The second one, yes, but like you said wrong size. Thank you though!

tethersend

That last one, the Jovani, is beautiful but too dear. I'm not too keen on sequins+pink also, but it's a gorgeous dress.

Lentil

Ooh you wore blush also, would love to see a sneaky link or pic of your dress! Ultimately I think those dresses are all too bridal for me - lovely, but my ceremony will be really teeny so I want to keep the vibe quite relaxed.

Thank you all again! And if there are any more keep them coming - ideas outside the brief always welcome, and it def doesn't need to be strapless

:) :)

I wore blush, but I had mine made. Is that a possibility? Cheaper than shop bought and the fit will be better.

I know what you're saying Eldritch but I'm both lazy and busy (between work and manic toddler) and I just need the minimum fuss and instant gratification of ordering online and not having to do any further work/research/fittings...perhaps I'm being naive about this...hmm

Orchid, that first Mango is totally lovely! It's not the dress for me, but it is lovely. The second one doesn't grab me. Thank you :)

Fair enough. I had no choice as I was pregnant (slattern that I am-had no idea how strongly some people feel about pregnant brides!) with boobs bigger than my head, so made to order was the most realistic option. I've told DH we have to renew our vows just so I can have the wedding dress I really wanted. He's not going for it so far...

this is quite unusual

Have a look at these dresses they come in any colour and can be tied however you want to make various different style dresses.

I was just going to link to the Ghost ones sold at JL. I have two (Chelsea in Nude and the Novella in Boudoir Pink). They are very long. I am a size 10/12 and bought a M. Strangely, my sister is a 8/10 and also has the Chelsea in a M but had to have the shoulders taken in a bit. I think the S might be Ok for you. I would expect to have to make some small alterations on most evening gowns.
