A story in today's paper says that the average woman wears clothes worth £636 every day.

Breakdown as follows:

Lingerie £17.69
Socks £2.85
Trousers or skirt £26.87
Shirt or top £21.27
Jumper or jacket £32.27
Jewelry £298.57
Watch £85.94
Coat £51.93
Mobile Phone £102.39
Shoes £39.35

The poll does not take wallets, handbags or purses into consideration

Guess I should answer my own question!

socks £4
shoes £50
jeans £40
shirt £30
lingerie £40
Jewelry/watch £3,000 (diamond stud earrings and plain watch - both gifts from my nan)
coat £50
mobile £40 (cheapest nokia available)

Take away the jewelry, and I'm well below the average.

Jewellry - hmm, wearing silver bracelet, wedding ring, engagement ring, signet ring, diamond earrings
Undies - about £25
Diesel trainers - £70

Clothes total: £255
Jewellry: not sure but deffo takes me way over £636.

The £298 estimate for jewellry is not much if people have wedding and engagement ring on is it??

right now am wearing British Airways pyjama bottoms (so free) and a tesco t-shirt - £2

does that mean I can now go out and spend £634 on clothes? please!

culottes - £6 (Asda sale)
vest top - £4 (H&M)
v-neck jumper - £20 (Warehouse - was present)
jewellry - watch £20 Next, chunky wooden bracelet £6 Accessorize, chunky neclace with disc New Look £4 so £30 all in inc watch)
Cord jacket - £20 (H&M)
Mobile - £50 (Ebay)
Shoes - £30 (Jane Shilton outlet)

So that is £169.50. Obviously proving that I am a cheapskate as I come in below average on everything. Although I cunningly missed out including my wedding and engagement rings! Wink

So I am above average, but only due to my rings :)

Oliveoil - those jeans you're considering would probably push you well above the "average" woman's daily total! But, at least you'd look great!! Wink

Hmm -

Lingerie - £30 (£25 of which is an M&S nursing bra and I really object to having to pay that much for it!)
Jeans - passed on by my mum
Top - lost property at school which I then claimed Blush
Shoes - £30 ish
Socks - passed on by mum
Jewellery - £600 Shock
Watch - not got it on just now, but it cost £4.99!!
Coat - £15
Mobile - dunno it was a contract one

Total - £650 , but take the jewellery off that and it's not that much really!

fleecy jacket thing from boden £20 in sale

about £142, i knew it, i'm cheap.
wedding/engagement ring - about £500 might bump it up a bit. oh and chunky silver ring dh bought me for christmas a couple of years ago was from one of those poncey shops in the oxo tower so it must have cost a bob or 2.

I agree £298 is not that much for an engagement ring and wedding ring. I thought I had REALLY cheap ones at a total of £328
