Drywhiteplease · 27/01/2013 18:40

Thanks MrsCB i Knew you would find it

Hopefully · 27/01/2013 18:40

Porkster in that case it was a crappy consultant. I never instruct anyone to wear more than three or four shades of diarrhoea... Wink.

Hopefully · 27/01/2013 18:42

What actually makes a top a Breton as opposed to a stripy tshirt? I've never known. Not that I ever buy or wear them (so far away from being Parisienne chic on me it's laughable).

MarshaBrady · 27/01/2013 18:44

Thin stripes on white background?

Have never known what a shell suit/top is, am in too deep now to ask.

MrsCampbellBlack · 27/01/2013 18:45

Well I'd say a classic breton is like the armor lux one I just linked to. Were they not originally worn by fisherman so they were easily visible if they went overboard - I may have made that up.

So quite boxy shape, boat/slash neck and heavy material.

Where as a stripey t shirt well its just a stripey t shirt.

Drywhiteplease · 27/01/2013 18:53

Buttons on the shoulder?

Drywhiteplease · 27/01/2013 18:55

Drywhiteplease · 27/01/2013 19:01

Mominatrix · 27/01/2013 19:01

Not quite magenta and teal, but magenta and bright blue. Ask and you shall receive ; -).

I love s&b. What is wrong with shallow obsessing about clothes, shoes, and bags? I think that we are all intelligent women and know that we are not going to solve the world economic crisis or inequality by discussing our views on 3/4 length shirts. Lighten up!

In terms of the jargon, it is just that - jargon. However poncey, it does have a meaning. Breton is not just a striped shirt. Trouser vs jean. Skinny v slim leg v straight leg - all means something.

noddyholder · 27/01/2013 19:02

vous etes les bienvenus

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 27/01/2013 19:03

Good gods - my eyes.

Mominatrix · 27/01/2013 19:06

Marsha - shell suit top Now you know!

Mominatrix · 27/01/2013 19:07

sorry the link may not have worked! A shell suit top is a sleeveless, collarless, silk, rather loose and high necked slip on shirt usually worn with a suit.

Drywhiteplease · 27/01/2013 19:09

Maureen you must be a little bit tempted..non?Wink

MarshaBrady · 27/01/2013 19:11

Good to know.

usualsuspect · 27/01/2013 19:11

They are a bit old fashioned if you ask me.

Like something my mum would wear.

MarshaBrady · 27/01/2013 19:12

They do sound a bit old fashioned, the name does for sure.

usualsuspect · 27/01/2013 19:16

shell suit top

MrsFruitcake · 27/01/2013 19:17

I've never had my colourrs done yet my gay, male hairdresser asked me only last week if I had, because 'whatever I'm doing, it looks so good'. [smug]

faustina · 27/01/2013 19:20

I think shell is american for top actually : like this - a formal kind of top

CarriedAwayAnnie · 27/01/2013 19:21

No good to me with those horizontal stripes. Only skinnies can get away with that.
