oh now that sis an odd fit ime
normally i am a 12/14 nd am a 12 in gap ( but they clal it a 8)

CHICagoMUM · 21/04/2006 19:19

I hate to say it but (and I don't know if this is true here) in America I was told that they are generous with their sizings so people can wear a smaller (labelled) size. But they are more size obsessed over there (even have clothes labelled 0 -equivalent to a 4 over here Shock ).

snowleopard · 21/04/2006 19:38

Wel lalaa, I have a beloved pair of Gap jeans that fit brilliantly and look great on me and they're a 14. They recently went through at the knee and I went to get some more - only to find that I could only fit into a 16 if I tried the stretchy ones. I asked if they were sizing smaller now and the assistant tactlessly replied Oh no, your size 14s will have stretched to fit your real size (hmmm thanks, you bint). But I put my size 14s against the 16s and they were bigger - the waistband was bigger, everything, they couldn't have stretched that much (- and I wasn't getting the sizing wrong, they were UK 16s).

So I'm with you, and harumph. Oh well, I'm a 14 in Jigsaw trousers :)

GDG · 21/04/2006 19:39

Well I'm a 10-12 - I bought 12 long and lean in GAP - when they are just out of the drier and the first day I wear them they are OK, after that, they go too big.

My going out sexy ones are a 10 (I think) and are a great fit.

lalaa · 21/04/2006 19:55

snowleopard - I'm a 14 at jigsaw too (just about) and i've had to buy an 18 today in gap!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! can't be right! they look fine, and are a touch big around my waist but i'd rather that than be in agony when i sit down.
have to say that the assistant that helped me today was absolutely fab. she refused to let me buy a pair that were too old fashioned and found me a much more flattering version - albeit in a size that is just scary for me. i've been out of the gym for eight months during cancer treatment and was feeling down about my size now.....you've made me feel much better!

lalaa, cut the size label out and think no more about it Smile!

cod · 21/04/2006 20:19

yes i get a size 12 first day very close fitting next day looser butnicely so

Pinotmum · 21/04/2006 20:22

I was in Gap recently and tried on numerous pairs. I am a 10/12 and because I wanted jeans for work I wanted them to be comfortable. I was trying 12's and finding them too long or too short. The assistant got me another pair, size 12, and they were too small, another pair in a different cut were too big. I settled on a size 12 that gets so baggy after wearing for a few hours. Style to style definitely varies in size I think.

crunchie · 21/04/2006 20:29

You see that is my problem too I think GAP sizes are now smaller as well. I have so many jeans in so many sizes, but lots in a size 12 (Gap size 8) Now I have been on a diet and I cannot yet fir them, all bar one pair which is still too tight to actually wear even if it does up. Last time I was in GAP though the size 14 were too small!! in every shape/cut.

However yesterday I bought some FAB flattering jeans in Monsoon. They are teh BEST ones I have ever tried, and stretchy so I haven't got that baggyy arse thing you usaually get after a days wear. THEY ARE A SIZE 12 too!!!!!

However I think they must be cut big as there is no way I am a size 12, but they do look loike my arse has lost 10lbs just pulling them on :)

SoupDragon · 21/04/2006 20:29

I've always found Gap to be generous. I can fit a 10 (6) from there. It's why I love it so much :)

cod · 21/04/2006 20:30

{envy}

i ocudl onece in a stretch pari
its hte hips

SoupDragon · 21/04/2006 20:30

I've always found Monsoon to be generous too

cod · 21/04/2006 20:30

i HVWE found a huge discrepancy in length though in tow pairs the samee size

colinandcaitlinsmommy · 21/04/2006 20:32

I think they're big. I'm an American size 6, and I usually have to get a 4 in Gap sizes. Love the long and lean jeans, though. Their stretch sizes are all messed up, too.

cod · 21/04/2006 20:34

ok i don thtink this thread will help lalaa at the meoment

wetern boto cut is an odd fit

SoupDragon · 21/04/2006 20:35

I think she's gone to hang herself in shame... oh dear.

cod · 21/04/2006 20:36

lalal ahve yo put on weight form allt he drugs?

colinandcaitlinsmommy · 21/04/2006 20:38

Their fits are all different. I had an associate explain it to me once about what size to get in what style, but it was really boring, so I didn't listen. I know that depending on the style, fits can vary by a couple of sizes, so just because you're one size in a certain style, don't just assume you'll be that same size in a different one.

cod · 21/04/2006 20:39

very true
or in the same range
or that the lenghts are the same

depends on th child labouring making htem

;(

lalaa · 21/04/2006 20:51

not hanging
just sorting out dd's sore bottom on my other thead.
am suitably reassured that their sizing is generally b*ggered and am not as big as I thought I might be.
have put weight on due to chemo, but only the weight I lost when first diagnosed due to the complete shock. so am same weight as I was before I was diagnosed.
feel much better now!

crunchie · 21/04/2006 21:48

Soupy please don't tell me monsoon are generous too. :) I know that BUT I am trying to pretend I don't

WestCountryLass · 21/04/2006 22:10

I am a size 14 and bought a 16 in the long and lean style the other day.

Luggs · 22/04/2006 11:30

Different shops/different styles all seem to come up a different size so try on and buy what fits and looks good - forget about the size. You can always cut the label out.....

Twinkie1 · 22/04/2006 11:33

Have a pair of GAP long and lean that are a size 6US so think it makes a size 10UK that fit perfectly but NEXT size 10s won't do up around my middle so I have no idea how they size things these days!!!

Socci · 22/04/2006 11:37

On me they seem to come up quite big - I'm an 8/10 but buy size 8 Gap.
