Help me find a gorgeous gift for around £150 - something to keep but not jewellery

herecomestherainbloodyyetagain · 04/01/2013 11:20

I'm thinking something for the home, like a Nick Munro tea set, Kosta Boda bowl (but neither as got already) or a gorgeous candelabra...not jewellery and it need to be something that can be kept/ will last. Any ideas?

Lovely set of crystal champagne glasses?

dazzlingdeborahrose · 04/01/2013 11:24

There are some beautiful Vera Wang picture frames about the moment.

herecomestherainbloodyyetagain · 04/01/2013 11:35

I will look up the picture frames. Got champagne glasses really but that's definitely along the right lines.

cashmere throw

herecomestherainbloodyyetagain · 05/01/2013 00:16

Cashmere throw sounds appealing. Something I wouldn't buy for myself (it's for me btw...present give has asked for specific suggestion!)

A limited-edition print. Near where I live, there are a few art venues that have collections of prints by lots of different artists and there are some really lovely pieces that I would love to have. Try local galleries? Any arty towns or cities near you, if you've no local galleries?

Antique shop silver?

herecomestherainbloodyyetagain · 05/01/2013 14:38

Cashmere jumper?

mummywithnosleep · 05/01/2013 14:53

Decanter and matching engraved / crytal glasses.
At that price you can probably find a beautiful ladies desk
Anique hall table

Grandmother clock (easier to site than a grandfather clock)

Earlybird · 05/01/2013 14:57

A beautiful little painting or sculpture

Gorgeous flower vase.

Polished wooden box with inlay

Floor or table lamp

herecomestherainbloodyyetagain · 05/01/2013 15:26

Love the idea of cashmere but it wouldn't qualify for lasting forever in my house given my track record on trashing wool sweaters during washing!

Really liking the idea of browsing an antique shop or two in search of something special...

OP posts:
herecomestherainbloodyyetagain · 05/01/2013 15:26

Or a vase as I don't have enough. Shall get browsing online for ideas for those.

I received a beautiful silver antique bon bon dish - very delicate filligree design as a gift. I love it, treasure it.

Startail · 05/01/2013 16:43

For me it would be a cut glass valse or just the right modern sculptural one. Or possibly a piece of Swakorski (Sp) crystal. I have little bits, but I'm really fussy it has to sparkle and not be too twee.

Dear elderly lady friend buys herself beautiful botanical painted china to add to the collection on her dresser when she has money.

Something like that you could add to.

mummywithnosleep · 05/01/2013 17:01

Don´t know if you will like it but this is on offer at the moment cut glass vase

sleepdodger · 05/01/2013 20:37

Georg Jensen home stuff

herecomestherainbloodyyetagain · 05/01/2013 22:23

More fab ideas - thanks.

Antiques are off the list as understandably it needs to be something the relative organising can buy easily online rather me sending her to a particular antique shop.

Think I quite like this but would need to see it in the flesh
