I think I am in a bit of a style rut. Not badly dressed - just a bit boring/safe/. Always seem to live in shirt/t shirt, cardigan, skinny jeans and boots. Quite like my look but want to be just a little more...... "together" I guess!! Tell me what you're wearing that is more together than me. Thank you.

V similar to you tbh.

Black skinnies
Black and white striped top
Grey cowl neck jumper
Grey cable knit legwarmers
Black boots which are a sort of cross between biker and Chelsea
Grey peacoat
Big faux fur stole thing

lalalonglegs · 19/12/2012 19:15

Get rid of the jeans: it will force you to be more creative. Start colour blocking.

chipstick10 · 19/12/2012 19:18

Wearing a floral above the knee a line dress with a black cable knit jumper over the top that sits just above the waist. Black wooly tights and taupe ankle boots. Hooped earings.

Abra1d · 19/12/2012 19:22

Black skinnies. Striped tshirt in shades of violet. Taupe cashmere jumper with deep crew neck. Small cashmere scarf in a very soft violet.

MariahScarey · 19/12/2012 19:27

I hate those polyester dresses. EW. Don't.

1605 · 19/12/2012 19:35

Black patent heels, opaques, a loose above the knee dress in a graphic pattern, a black cashmere cropped cardigan, some giant gold beads and a giant gold and tourmaline ring. Also a camelhair overcoat and a tan tote bag - both are ancient but they were investment buys that have served me very well and are still admired and envied Grin.

I spend a lot of money on hair, nails, skincare and jewellery. This is what's noticed when you get older. The clothes are immaterial really, work with your style and your job, but dry-clean-only fabrics and well-fitting underwear give you a bit of help in the personal presentation department.

yulebrynner · 19/12/2012 20:07

my contribution is to suggest a move to dresses.

I am wearing a knee length black jersey dress, grey cashmere long wrap cardigan, black opaques, heeled suede boots with a grey zip, and a long emerald scarf with silver dots.

I should follow 1605's advice and put on some bling.

GeorginaWorsley · 19/12/2012 21:07

Whistles animal print skinnies
Autograph cream thermal layering tee
Mint Velvet caramel slouchy cowl neck sweater
Marks and Spencer navy ankle boots
silver bangles

Santastic · 20/12/2012 05:27

Thanks for the replies - lots of ideas to think about. Queen - I am on Pinterest - any ideas who I should be following?

You called? Per una bootcut jeans, a flowery t-shirt from Mantaray and some sparkly flipflops. Oh, hang on....I'll leave. Blush

Pandsbear · 20/12/2012 11:57

Very plain black flare just-above-knee length dress, cashmere short grey cardigan, wool tights, cashmere plum scarf (chilly in the house today). Unstylish warm sheepskin slippers Grin. No bling apart from ring and small earrings.

Tomorrow could be jeans!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 20/12/2012 15:30

Today -

black tube mini skirt (stolen from dd1 and probably far too short for somebody my age but hey ho)
black opaques
tan knee high boots
black jumper
faux fur gilet thing
grey snood

Corygal · 20/12/2012 15:30

I didnt post 10 minutes ago when I was wearing gentlemen's longjohns from Primark and half an elderly "value" brassiere.

Second the expensive haircut, scent, and don't wear too much make up are my prime tips, also time-saving. Eyebrows done, pls, AND UPPER LIP. Anyone who says they haven't got facial hair after 43 is a liar/blind/more likely to be struck by lightning.

Clothes: while one thinks expensive clothes do one a favour, and one is generally dead right, always throw in one cheap piece. Waist definition makes you look younger too.

Poisonally, I wear dresses all the time. Too lazy to think about the whole separates thang.

anothercuppaplease · 20/12/2012 15:39

Today? I am wearing black opaque tights and knee high grey knitted socks, leather boots, a denim skirt (a bit on the short side - I have good legs) and a Joules strippy jumper soft pink and white.

FayeKorgasm · 20/12/2012 15:54

Black skinnies
Taupe Whistles jumper

I was out earlier delivering Christmas cards in the village and wore Gant Parker and Dubarry boots.

ifancyashandy · 20/12/2012 16:00

these

With this skirt and this jumper. And black opaque tights.

43 years old.

QueenCadbury · 20/12/2012 16:19

I don't follow anyone in particular, I just tend to browse around. Like you I live in jeans, tops and cardigans but have found Pinterest useful for styling ideas such as scraves and jewellery but also how people style items I own. So for example if I have a green cardigan, I'd search for it and see how other people put things together. Sometimes there's colour combinations and textures that I would never think of putting together.

I do wonder though if some of these people who look "together" are just born with a certain something. I could try and recreate some of the looks and would just never look the same!

Corygal · 20/12/2012 16:22

Gor, ifancyashandy, you are feeling it today. That is brilliant.

I am wearing a capacious Crumpet cable cardi, which, bar the label, looks like something a confused old lady would wear, a handknit aran in a modern shape off ebay and a black midi dress with studded neckline. Neon orange Johnston's hoop scarf round neck.

The gentlemans longjohns appear to have reinserted themselves onto my legs.

ifancyashandy · 20/12/2012 17:06

Why Thank You Cory Xmas Grin. I do LURVE clothes and dressing up!

Your outfit sounds creative Xmas Grin!!

Corygal · 20/12/2012 17:30

I'm not sure if that's a compliment but I am delighted. Trouble is, if you are a creative by job/accident, sometimes you get the fear about looking mental sorry glamorous.

The best compliment I ever had was when we moved office, and, nipping in for some fags, the woman behind the counter of the local shop asked about our firm then said: "So are you the receptionist?" Xmas Smile An appalled silence followed from my entourage of terrified minions Xmas Shock, but I was over the moon. Xmas Grin Xmas Grin Xmas Grin

Columnists bang on about wearing biro-smeared onesies 7 days a week, but you ain't seen - or smelt - some of the editors in the office at 3am. Once I left to go home, and the duty person looked over and called a car. A parcel van arrived.

SirEdmundFrillary · 20/12/2012 17:32

I cannot tell you.

ifancyashandy · 20/12/2012 17:35

Cory, it was a compliment!

GeorginaWorsley · 20/12/2012 17:59

Today
East purple jersey top/cardigan with silk bits on cuffs and neckline
Black Autograph thermal layering tee
Dark indigo skinnies
Black wedge ankle boots
Chunky necklace bought in local boutique in purple/blue/red/gold colours

1605 · 20/12/2012 20:01

No meetings today so I'm wearing tan suede ankle boots with brown straps and a cuban heel, cobalt blue Baxters from Topshop, a white long sleeved t-shirt, a grey cashmere jumper and a massive charcoal coloured scarf with distressed hems.

Until lunchtime I was wearing a dressing gown and a plastic shower cap with deep conditioner on, mind.
