New bra size? Embrace or ignore?

Whoknowswhocares · 17/12/2012 23:32

Ok, so today I had my first bra fitting at the grand old age of 46 Blush
I've been wearing a 34dd for.....well, forever if I'm honest!

Both shops measure me as either 32f or 30ff.
The norks are now up around my chin and enter a room 3 feet before I do. Granted, this has streamlined my torso and given any sign of boob droop the heave-ho but I feel bloody self conscious. (Have alwaysfelt self concious about huge norks) I looked more in proportion in the old bras as they had a minimising effect and tbh looked pretty much ok.At size 10 everywhere else I now look like I might topple in a strong wind and I'm not sure how many, if any of my tops will fit my new shape

So, embrace or hide in my old size? All opinions much appreciated! TIA

embrace the new at least half the time

NaokHoHoHo · 17/12/2012 23:49

Embrace, once you get used to it you'll be far more comfortable and it's better for your back/neck/shoulders to be properly supported too.

notMarlene · 17/12/2012 23:57

Embrace the new size. You can always buy minimisers if you want to!

SorrelForbes · 18/12/2012 00:07

Embrace, without a doubt. I bet you look slimmer and your posture is better when wearing your new bras. I went from a 34DD to a 30G so I totally understand your shock!

You'll also have a smoother line (less under arm bulge and back fat/lumps) under clothes.

EtoilesPleinLesYeux · 18/12/2012 07:28

Who measured you? ignore if it was M&S

Whoknowswhocares · 18/12/2012 07:54

Morning all, thanks for the replies. So no votes for ignore then......damn!

Etoiles.....one was m and s (that's bad then?) the other was debenhams. Although in my ignorance I will have pointed the m and s woman in the direction of the size she chose myself by telling her what they'd sized me as in debenhams

Well done in M&S, they'd almost certainly have had you in a 36d or 34dd given free reign. Fools.

Their bras are good as long as you don't let them fit you!

HazleNutt · 18/12/2012 08:27

Embrace! And as a size 10, you're more likely the 30 than 32. Norks around the chin? That's where they are supposed to be!

Whoknowswhocares · 18/12/2012 09:17

That's interesting HazelNutt, it sounds like they are deffo right then by placing me inbetween. I'm the err generous end of a size 10.

So all I need now is to find a producer of size 31 bras and clothes in size 11. Hmmmmmm

I say embrace. Just try different styles because not all will hoik them up so much. Some of the Fantasie "smoothing" moulded styles are quite uplifing yet flattening. Try a few different styles until you get a shape you like.

BunnyLebowski · 18/12/2012 12:50

Embrace!!!

After years of wearing ill-fitting 36/38 C/Ds, I'm off shopping this week for new 34DD bras!

This is why I love MN Grin

KindleMum · 18/12/2012 12:51

Embrace! And check out Rigby and Peller and Bravissimo and Bravissimo's clothing arm, Pepperberry.

TickledOnion · 18/12/2012 13:16

Embrace. I'm a 30G, but in a well fitting bra I don't look huge at all. You'll get used to it and probably find that people think you have lost weight rather than gained boobage.

Whoknowswhocares · 18/12/2012 13:37

Thanks everyone......I'm coming round to the idea! Grin

One question to others suitably challenged. T shirt bras..... Are there any decent smooth cup ones around WITHOUT molding/padding etc? The unpadded bra I bought is great. No back fat, not too 'in your face' and makes me look better than before. The t shirt one fits well, but is a bit 'whey hey look at The size of THOSEShock due to the extra padding.

Embrace, boobs on the waist line are not a good look on anyone.

Least your not a 28 c/d Sad

HazleNutt · 18/12/2012 14:23

I have not found a non-moulded bra yet that does not have the nipple show issue. But try Fantasie Rebecca - it is moulded, but not padded and the foam is very soft and flexible, so it does not increase the size.

Wrigglytummy · 18/12/2012 15:58

Embrace- I had the exact same experience- size 10, 34DD- measured at Boux avenue & debenhams...then house of Fraser as I was in denial!
Freya bras are good & Boux do some unpadded ones in 30Ff (!!).

Em3978 · 18/12/2012 16:11

I'm a size 12 round the hips, but just lost weight round my ribs and I'm now a 30G... Difficult to GET bras in that size, but you really do notice when you get a good one! :D

lljkk · 18/12/2012 16:20

Come back in 2 months time & let us know how you're getting on, please?

Bunbaker · 18/12/2012 16:24

Embrace. If you've got it flaunt it I say. Being somewhat challenged on the boob front I envy your curves.

Whoknowswhocares · 18/12/2012 16:34

Holy crap! Just walking past mirror ( yet againWink) to check out the girls in their new position and caught a glimpse of my arse. The trackies (back from a game of tennis, Im not quite badly enough style challenged to be wearing trackies for no reason Wink) I've got on are HUGE. My arse looks like a deflated beach ball. It seems like I've been wearing the wrong size on more than just my boobs.

Total overhaul of wardrobe then?

Fantasie do a seamless t-shirt bra.

Charliefox · 18/12/2012 20:46

I'd give my eye teeth to be a 28c fluffycloud. I've had a breast reduction and the bloody surgeon gave me the breasts he thought were right for me, instead of listening to what I wanted - which was to be tiny. Don't get me wrong, I now have fabulous perky breasts but I'd love to be smaller still. Anyway, having lived with big norks my whole life, I'm firmly in the avoid camp. When you want to disguise what's already an eye-catching chest, putting them front and centre is not a comfortable place to be.

JRsandCoffee · 18/12/2012 22:02

Prima Donna is a great brand for the big of boob and does some smooth cup ones. Expensive but they look great and live forever (well longer than average...)
