Eyebrow pencil for dark hair

Can anyone recommend a cool/ashy dark brown brow pencil please? Brow hairs are black (but black pencil looks odd on IMO) and I have dark olive/tan skin. All the dark brown pencils I tried on in Boots were too warm. I have a eyeshadow that I use already but need a pencil for a bit more definition.

I liked the colour of a Benefit pencil I tried but formula was too soft and waxy.

Have you tried a benefit powder? That's what I use at the moment but I've also liked Laura Mercier and mac in the past

MooMinCow · 10/12/2012 18:04

Pixie - am quite happy with my Bobbi Brown Smoke eyeshadow for my brows, just wish I could find similar in pencil form. Which MAC pencil did you try?

It's was a twist up one (can't recall the name!) it does however go a lot quicker!
Is it you want them more set than the powder provides? Wondering if clear mascara would do that?

browneyedpixie · 10/12/2012 18:10

Or is it putting it on?

crazybutterflylady · 10/12/2012 18:11

Have you tried the wax/powder kits? I think they're brilliant and last much longer than the pencils. Mine is ruby & Millie but benefit does one too

WhoKnowsWhereTheMistletoes · 10/12/2012 18:13

I've got the same problem, my eyebrow hairs are black but my actual hair is dark brown, most brown pencils are too reddish but black is too black. I use an Eyelure one, code OA1, from Boots, it's a dark brown without the redness. It is quite soft, I have to sharpen it often, but a really good colour. I can't use powders because my brows are too sparse, they don't look defined enough with powders.

WhoKnowsWhereTheMistletoes · 10/12/2012 18:14

Oh and to make it last I use a Gosh eyebrow pen (which is too red on it's own) over the top, it acts as a sealant. I've tried Benefit Browzing wax/powder but it rubs off very easily on me, even worse than pencil on its own.

MooMinCow · 10/12/2012 18:35

Pixie - not so much to set the brow hairs, I just have some gaps and want a cleaner line than powder and brush give. I also dislike waxy texture on my brows (sorry crazy)

Whoknows - where did you get the eylure pencil from? Is it in the section with the false lashes etc?

Is it this one?

I use a tiny angled brush from mac with my powder. What do you use?

browneyedpixie · 10/12/2012 20:01

Hairspray! Sets your make up too Wink

coffeeandcream · 10/12/2012 20:04

I would really recommend the 'browzings' wax and powder kits from benefit that come in different shades. The wax gives a lovely, finished shape and the powder adds depth and fullness

MooMinCow · 10/12/2012 20:20

Same angled brush Pixie Smileand cool dark brown matte BB shadow.

Don't really want a brow palette as being dark haired/dark skinned I don't need lots of shades, just the one!

I like MAC - I use Spiked but probably Stud would be better for you. They are quite soft, but no where near as soft as the Benefit one, which I have bought and used almost all of it in about 3 weeks Hmm

I also like Clinique, the soft brown is the best colour for me, but the pencil is hard which I really like - I use less and it doesn't smudge.

I have Browzings as well, but sometimes I just don't have the time.

Amblin · 10/12/2012 21:48

SHADOW. Not a pencil .
Bobbi brown.

MooMinCow · 10/12/2012 22:08

Yes Amblin I have the BB shadow in Smoke, which is lovely, but sometimes for speed and for a more defined look I think a pencil would be better.

Think MAC might be worth a trip

I don't use the one for brows! Like you my hair is very dark, my Laura Mercier had run out so I used my powder duo eyleliner! It's dark brown and black so I mix to my hair colour. It's fab and saved me wasting the palette as I prefer liquid linerGrin

I too used spiked to whomever just said that!

WhoKnowsWhereTheMistletoes · 10/12/2012 23:04

I think the one you've linked is the same Eyelure one Moo, but they appear to have updated it a bit, mine hasn't got the gold coloured band on it. It is shade OA1 and yes, it is with the false eyelashes etc. They also do a felt pen one which is meant to be more permanent but is a terrible colour, really reddish.

ZacharyQuack · 10/12/2012 23:20

Clinique do some good eyebrow pencils. Their fine eyebrow pencil comes in several colours including Deep Brown and Black-Brown.

HollaAtMeSanta · 11/12/2012 05:58

I like the darkest brown Boots 17 brow pencil - did you try that?

DonaAna · 11/12/2012 08:04

Shiseido brow pencil in Natural Black is very good and cool-toned.
All browns look reddish on me, am cool-toned.

MadameCastafiore · 11/12/2012 08:05

Clinique do one in dark brown. I always used it because found most others had red in them and that looked awful.

Have had them tattooed in now and if you can afford it have it done.

MooMinCow · 11/12/2012 08:26

Will pop into Boots and have a look for the Eyelure one. The Boots 17 was no good (I tried on EVERYTHING last week!)

Unfortunately Shiseido will require a day trip to a big city Wink would prefer something from Boots/Superdrug (so can redeem my points!)

Don't think I would go for the tattoo. I have enough brow hair and shape to get away with not doing anything to them at all if in a rush.

i am using the soap and glory brow pencil, i have dark hair and olive skin. and never used and eyebrow pencil before and love it. the white other end for lifting your brows looks amazing.

I can't understand why i never used it before. however i do need to find my bigger sharpner to sharpen it.

MooMinCow · 14/12/2012 12:50

So I ended up getting the Clinique superfine brow liner in soft brown. Not the darkest brown they do, but the coolest toned I think and looks v natural. Have fab defined brows thank you!
