Dresses are hot and will be in all the shops- from shirt waister ones to big smock type frocks (could never in a million years get away with that trend) White is very big too and nude colours.
Also:
Utility workwear - dungarees etc
Tailored shorts
ruffles and puffs on skirts and shirts/blouses
Bug eye sunglasses in bright shades
huge bags
thick waist clinching belts
and
at last long tops - yeeeha I can hide my wobbly fat tummy!

Get Malory & Cod on the case they will literally whip you into shape Grin

redbull · 09/04/2006 15:58

It's not just Malorytowers and Cod - there are a large bunch of superstylish Mnetters.

\link{http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk?topicid=2350&threadid=145719\they do know their stuff - even I listen but that's because my friends are too nice and would never tell me I look like poo in an outfit}

redbull · 09/04/2006 16:10

oh sorry new on the style threads!!! so do you mean the look will be a cross between boho and gypsy?

OP posts:
MeggLeVache · 09/04/2006 16:14

I don't think so but don't quote me on that. I think it's more leaner than the flouncey skirts of last summer and from what I've seen in the shops there seems to be alot of structure and tailouring going on.

redbull · 09/04/2006 16:17

OH GOD i loved the gypsey skirts from last summer as not proud of my shape and legs hid it all wellWink

MeggLeVache · 09/04/2006 16:21

Well having no waist whatsoever I'm thriled to see the back of them - not that I ever bought one in the first place that is.

redbull · 09/04/2006 16:22

And im just over 5ft so in that case means having to go like dorthy perkins and next to find trousers and skirts to fit me and if the ling tops are going to be hot as well will have to go there to get all clothes no primark and new look for tops for me then (nice and cheap) Sad

redbull · 09/04/2006 16:23

meant long not lingBlush

as far as I have seen tis neither boho nor gypsy. Kind of 40s, slightly masculine/military tailoring, inc shirt dresses. Full 1950s skirts still about.
White and broderie Anglaise very big, also wedges, polka dots, belts on waist and headscarves.

NO to those tiered skirts and disc belts round hips.

[do not quote me on any of the above, am no expert and am prepared to be slammed by the Style Shop posse]

redbull · 09/04/2006 16:33

can anyone contact malory and cod for there help please to get their advice?????

just hang on and in time they'll grace us with their presence - Sundays are quite quiet on MN, and school holiday sundays are exceptionally so!

Meanwhile, maybe try handbag.com or the topshop website for a few ideas?

redbull · 09/04/2006 16:41

ive had a look on topshop but for me i m not that kean on them i dont know what it is i just find their styles really OTT on the fashion front instead of it being subtle its like really out there.

OP posts:
MrsBadger · 09/04/2006 16:59

ah, that's why its great for ideas - I end up wearing very heavily watered-down versions of Topshop stuff from other shops.

Luggs · 09/04/2006 19:19

Apparently dresses are in and so is the colour white. An article in Sunday Times said either a shirt dress or a shift dress if you are past 25 (like me). If you are a bright young thing then wear what you fancy!

BingoStingo · 10/04/2006 16:14

hmm id say gte a pari of long shorts - causal or fomal

BingoStingo · 10/04/2006 16:18

crunchie · 10/04/2006 16:42

This summer is neat and tailored, rather than gypsy/boho. The nearest to that is full skirts, and brodrais anglais. Loads of white (!) black :) and strong primary colours.

I shall be wearing my fitted shirt dress (Oasis) with huge wide patent belt (for work) flat mules for playtime, City shorts and heels (work again). Shorts will be a big thiing this year in the way that skirts were last year

For casual at teh mo I am wearing lots of nice jeans with layered tops, long/short, clashing colours, all plain (but that is personal choice) Flat ballet pumps, or patent pumps. I AM NOT DOING SKINNY JEANS! Nor are most people who don't work in fashion :)

This year there is not one 'look' that there was last year, and personally I always feel summer has less of a 'look' than Autumn/winter. Simple clothes work year in year out.

BingoStingo · 10/04/2006 16:45

id say struipey has amost had its moment but i look like a dogs dinner today

BingoStingo · 10/04/2006 16:45

agree lots of colur everywhere hooray brown may be on the way out

Smurfgirl · 10/04/2006 16:55

There are loads of nice city shorts in the sale, I have bought 2 pairs for summer already.

Lots of bright colours, and puffball skirts. Yay!

KTeePee · 10/04/2006 17:12

I saw a few (younger) women wearing those bug-eyed sunglasses last week, skinny jeans, ballet pumps. The overall look reminded me of a sort of late 70s NY post-punk thing.

I think it's a sign of my age but I really CAN'T do any look which I've already done in my youth (hence won't do skinny jeans, wedge sandals, gypsy broderie anglaise, etc, etc). Will have to seriously consider twin sets and pearls - have done everything else!!

BingoStingo · 10/04/2006 17:58

i never did the gypo skirtt hing
wpoduld have made me look like a yacht in full sail
