I still need help finding a perfume :(. And what do you all think of Diesel's Loverdose?

I love warm, sweet, dep scents. Base notes of vanilla, amber and musk. Nothing too fruity or flowery.

I so wanted to like Viktor & Rolf's Flowerbomb, because the name just tickles me. But it was just too flowery and ick.

Tried Diesel's Loverdose. Loathe the name and I think the bottle is just trashy. But the scent... the top note doesn't blow me away, but the dry-down is heavenly. Makes me feel like I've rubbed the taste of sugar on my skin. Mmmmmm...

I've tried Aqualina's Pink Sugar and didn't like it.

Vanilla, amber and musk. Surely there must be something that doesn't stink? Otherwise I have to stick to essential oils, and that just seems sad.

Help!

"dep" scents?

Deep, obviously.

I would also like Johnny Depp rubbed all over my skin. Just saying.

My current fave is jimmy choo. Smile

Jacksmania · 24/11/2012 18:01

Is it vanilla-y?

I loved Pink Sugar!

I tend to like light perfumes but have a few deeper ones. What about Alien? Stella by Stella McCartney is like a velvety rose.

Jacksmania · 24/11/2012 18:07

Alien.

Seriously, there's a perfume called Alien????

Is there a picture of Sigourney Weaver on it? Or a great slavering space monster? Or even a guy with his chest exploding? Shock

It is by the same maker as Angel which I also like. Angel makes me hungry though!

Oops - I have this one - www.fragrantica.com/perfume/Thierry-Mugler/Alien-707.html

I've got the diesel one. I agree the name is naff and the bottle trashy. It smells quite nice though, like aniseed balls and sugar.

It's not really me (it was a gift). You can have mine if you like! I'm more of a CK One girl myself.

Jacksmania · 24/11/2012 18:36

I would love to take it off your hands, Himalaya, but I imagine postage to Canada would be pricey enough that I might as well buy some. But thanks :)

Alien is gorgeous. Also like Narciso Rodriguez For Her.

FateLovesTheFearless · 24/11/2012 18:41

Another vote for alien too. I came across it when working and asked what it was, got myself a bottle and forever get asked what perfume I am wearing Smile

madamecake · 24/11/2012 18:43

I love D and G The One. Has the base notes that you like, and the bottle is nice! My only gripe is that the dry down doesn't last long enough, but you could just reapply.

Catz1 · 24/11/2012 18:55

The new Lancôme "la vie est belle" has orange and jasmin but smells like sweet vanilla. Every time I wear it I get asked what perfume am I wearing. It's simply gorgeous.

Glossynotflossy · 24/11/2012 19:49

I like the new Balenciaga Florabotanica but I am not prepared to stump up the £££ for it. I don't understand the language of perfume so I am not sure if its 'deep' but I do like Lancome's Poem which to me is 'deep'

Glossynotflossy · 24/11/2012 19:55

More on poeme here explains the 'notes' etc.

FrankelDeBeauvoir · 24/11/2012 19:56

I'm wearing Marc Jacobs' "Dot" at the moment.

LaCiccolina · 24/11/2012 19:58

In answer to the question OP in the post, cheap. Sorry. It looks nasty and smells like car freshener....that really sweet yucky stuff......

Lancôme one ok as recommended by catz1

QuinnFabray · 24/11/2012 20:02

Illamasqua's Freak is warm, sweet and deep. I love it and always get compliments.

LadyStark · 24/11/2012 20:05

I wear Pengaligon's Artemisia which is vanilla-y without being sickly, it still smells grown up iykwim.

Wow! Lots of suggestions! Some of them I've never heard of .
I wonder if I can get them all in Canada?

You seem to like perfumes that have a vanilla/ambery drydown.
Pink Sugar is a strident Barbie doll cupcake scent but there are elegant, stylish and adult vanillas too.

If you like good vanilla/amber/woody perfumes, they are not the easiest group to track in department stores. If you are in Canada, you could order a vanilla or amber perfume sampler from Surrender to Chance. That way you will find many lovely warm and woody scents.

Cheap and chic: Vanilla intense and Vanille Tonka by Paris-based Parfums de Nicolai, and Vanilla insensee by Atelier Cologne and Tobacco Vanilla by Tom Ford and Coromandel by Chanel.

Mainstream, worth trying: Shalimar Parfum Initial (blue tassel) and Shalimar L'eau (pink tassel) and La vie est belle by Lancome.

DonaAna · 25/11/2012 07:19

Here is a vanilla sampler with a good range. You might also want to look for amber perfumes.

And a few more deep scents every perfume store carries: Angel by Mugler and Coco by Chanel (heavy hitters), Allure Sensuelle and Coco Noir (lighter but still with some depth).

Jacksmania · 25/11/2012 13:37

Oh, DonaAna, you gorgeous thing!!! Thank you!!!! Flowers

DonaAna · 25/11/2012 13:41

Oh you're welcome! Loverdose is an okay perfume but there are much nicer ones out there. If you love the anis liquorice part in it, also try Lolita Lempicka Edp and perhaps Douce Amere by Serge Lutens. And be warned - great perfumes are addictive Wink

Lovemy3kids · 25/11/2012 13:44

I'm loving Candy by Prada
