Help me figure out what to wear!

Next Friday, so I have a week, my husband, who is a Teaching Fellow, is receiving an award for some work he did last year.

Great. So proud.

Only I'm 3/4 SAHM and 1/4 freelance graphic artist so my wardrobe is less than professional these days. I live in jeans and leggings and tunic tops. I have nothing for going to a ceremony where the VC will be there and my husband will be wearing a tie.

So...dress? Suit??

Anyone?

I can spend probably about £40 - £60 if it's something I can wear to client meetings as well.

What do I wear to client meetings now? Leggings and tunic tops, which is fine for the types of people I have for clients.

But this is Academia!!!

I think a dress would look great (and it's only one thing to find then :) )...do you like colour? What sort of shape are you? Hourglass, apple, pear?

Short and squat.

I'm not really an 'standard' shape, in all seriousness. I'm petite, only 5'2" but very broad across the shoulders but almost no hips. Sort of shaped like a man, actually.

Lady V London for flattering 50's shapes and quite cheap. You will need a cardigan/coat though.

I think it needs to be less formal, actually. It's lunchtime, not evening, so more of a day dress or suit, I was thinking.

I do have a green velvet trouser suit thing in the back of my closet. I wonder if it still fits...

There is a nice dress in next called crepe dress in burgundy . Looks nice I can't link on my phone from next app.

Academics are not dressy at all, I think you would be overdressed in something syructured and black.

Maybe a daydress would be nice.

An whomever asked, I'm not very colourful, I tend to do neutral colours with accent jewellery over wild patterns or colours.

Actually, I just tend to throw on jeans and go about my day!!!

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I'm going to ask my MIL, who has been a faculty wife for more years than she'd like to admit, what she recommends!

Just spoke to MIL, suit would be appropriate, or dress with jacket.

So I was thinking the right thing. Now to find the right thing!
